Kelvin's House
Well I guess it is time I document another build. I started with a 110 then wen to a 125 RR. Well that was just o large for my house. So I ordered a 90 from Glass Cages. I loved Dealing with this company, great communication and the drivers that met me some were different so I did not have to drive as far to pick it up were top shelf. My tank is a 90 tall that will be a mixed reef. I decided after I took delivery of the tank to put in a closed loop. I drilled two holes in the back for the drain and used two sea swirls as returns. The main drain in the tank is 1.5 with a 1 inch return. I used a little giant pumps for both return and closed loops. The return was 4-mdq-sc (850) and the closed loop was a 4-mdqx-sc (1100) Were I did things a bit different was in my power situation. I moved the pumps and protein skimmer to my garage and plumbed through the wall. This gave me a great chance to run a dedicated line and install a power center. I installed a 30 amp GFI breaker and ran it to a separate panel. (see pictures) For the panel I cut a piece of MDF board and placed 20A toggle switches in it to control every thing. From there I put in distribution blocks, ballasts and timers for the equipment. Everything can be controlled from the front. If I ever need to replace a pump it is easy to just remove the wires and replace. I Will have more to add but this is a great place to start.

The 125 will be ordered in a month.

Looks good Chris. I wish I had the time (and money) for a salt wter tank. Do you have a DSB and if so how many inches thick. Do you also have a refuge tank?

Man I want to doa salt water set up with a small reef. My mom currently has my 45 bow front and put gold fish in it. Gold fish damn it.

To be honest time wise is not any more than a fresh water. I do a tiny bit of daily maintenance and Bi monthly water changes. as far as money I guess the initial outlay could be bad but it day to day costs are not bad.

as far as a dsb, no, not really. i am at about 2.5 inches deep maybe a bit more.

I do not currently have a fuge set up but I am thinking of making one. I am thinking of a hang on sump and feeding it with the return from the Phosphate reactor. the thing with a fuge is you need about ten percent of your total volume and real slow flow to make it effective.

Oh there is the fish tank! I was stuck in the middle of the page. :D

I want a tank some day but waiting for the kids to get older so that I can have the time to do it right.

Just hope it is nice as yours.

Tom,

We almost had the opportunity to talk live with the said person in the middle pictures last night.

Some people get REAL tight with their good fortune and don't want to spread the cheer around.
