Ever tried your scotch chilled ? I have just used a cube or two of ice, but that ends up diluting the taste. What I tried last night is to first chil the glass for a few minutes in the freezer, then pour in some scotch and chill a few minutes longer. The result is a nice cool sipping glass of scotch. Too bad I didnt have any cigars to go with it.

That's pretty interesting. I wonder if resident experts like our own Hollow Point, Vince, etc. have tried something like that.

sounds interesting. I always chill my glass before I add vodka that I have in the freezer. I'll have to try it that way with scotch or bourbon.

Sound reasonable to me, after all there isn't a warm place in Scotland.

I like a cube or two in my scotch. A little water, not a lot, just a little will open up the nose of the scotch being consumed. I prefer a cube instead of plain water as I like the chilled effect.

What has become quite trendy is Johnnie Walker Gold being stored in the freezer and then poured into a glass for serving.

Other than that I don't generally add ice, and very little water. Medicine drops full on the rare occassion.

One other thing, much of the new enthusiasm gravitates to unfiltered whiskies. Adding ice to these is going to cause flogging also referred to hazing if the whiskey has not been filtered.

I agree with Hollow Point. I have a bottle of Gold (the only blended I own) I stick in the freezer before drinking. If you're gonna add water the best thing to do is to find water from the area the Scotch originated. I don't have that kind of money to spend on water so, I drink it neat. I read that the colder the beverage the less you taste. Temp effects your taste.

Chill your Blended scotch all you want, add ice , add water, add club soda, ginger ale, or black cheery soda for all I care, you are the one who is drinking it,
ME in a snifter, so I can warm it with my hands , I like single malts, I dont like the taste of the grain in some blends like Cutty or J&B, I can sip a little Johnny Walker Black or Chivis ,
you drink what you want, I am kind of a purest, I go through a few bottles of single malt a year, never start out to get $hitFaced , but have gotten there a few times to many, I just dont have the capacity I had a few years ago, , or the weight , right now I am at 225, a far cry from the 417 I was in April '04..
I just sip I like my whisky in a brandy snifter, hold it with both hands to allow the heat of my hands to warm up the golden liquid , sniff & let the whisky just touch my lips , no sip just a touch, , now rub your lips together, & taste, ahhhhh heaven, now sip, puff & get the coffee going ! hahaha Enjoy, Vince

It's from the best Sci-Fi show, The Prisoner. The lead character was No. 6.

I couldn't agree more, Vince. I prefer single malts. I bought the JW Gold because the price was too good to turn down (duty free shop.)

Hmmm - maybe I'll check that out - I've never even heard of it...hope it's on DVD!

Yes, I bought the entire set about five years ago. I'm sure it's still in print.

the JW Gold is 65 bucks here in Pa the single malt Green vatted 15 YO is only 50 bucks , the blue hits the scale at 189.99, dammmm thats a lot of cash for a blended scotch, you can pick up a fine OLD single malt like 21 Y O Glenfarclas for 80 bucks . BUTTTTT if you got a lot of ca$h to toss arround there is a 32 Y O 110 proof Oban for 339.99 or a 25 Y O 86 proof Macallen for the same amount , BUT if you want a fine single malt low cost & wonderful taste IMHO you need to find a bottle of Spayburn, 10 Y O 86 proof & 21 bucks a bottle. Good stuff ! Enjoy, Vince
