Storing a cut Cigar....

The Cap adds Structural Integrity. Know I have heard everything. The Wrapper holds 99% of the structual Integrity of a cigar. That is why it is there. Where is Legero1 when you really need him ?

Now, wait a second. The cap does hold structural integrity, because if it wasn't there, the wrapper would unwravel. It's there to hold the wrapper in place, as well as complete the aesthetic of the cigar.

I would think it important that one not remove too much of the cap, but other than that I can't see a problem. As long as you cut the stick properly, I don't think that you would run into structural problems. Just my .02.

All the best,

Joe

Yes, for those who will cut the cap, provided they don't cut down below the cap, the part left will hold the wrapper on that end of the cigar.

You need to make sure anytime you are cutting a cigar that you leave an unbroken ring of cap around the head of the cigar. It's like the steel hoops on a barrel, it keeps the wrapper from being able to unravel. The whole cap is going to be miles and miles stronger than just that little strip of cap running around the head.

Hey Bloof, you should get a job writing the tax code :D :D :D I'm sure the IRS is looking for someone who can write like you.

Why doesn't the wrapper unwrap from the other end ? It is not completely double wrapped.

Since the roller starts from that end, the loose end of the leaf is tucked underneath the rest of the wrapper. When you get to the head, you've got a loose corner you have to tuck under something, hence the cap. There are methods for tucking under itself, such as the twisted up pigtail or the flag as cap method, but in all of them, you have to come up with something that makes a tight tuck under.
