Good morning , it is Sunday 9/9/18 a Chilly wet day here in da Burgh , the weatherman told us to expect 3 to 6 inches of rain in the next 48 hours , after we just had about an inch in the last 24 hours , it is wet, and chilly just 55 F today on Friday we had the a c on , it was 85 , Saturday I had the heater on in the Qtr,Deck as it was a high of 61 , the road crew has been on standby as the wet weather has halted the paving /rebuilding of the road , the sign at the cornor said no pavement markings , dammmmm there is NO pavement Yet , its been like this over a week .
Breakfast this morning was a Hot pepper cheese omelet with sliced tomato right out of the garden , the coffee was a Java Jam from the local roaster in New Brighton Pa , a nice way to start the day , I am going to brew up a nice dark Italian roast for the next pot , the Kona would be to mild for a day like today , I will be going out to the Qtr.deck and getting the heat on as soon as I am done posting , the cigar will be a Monte Classic churchill , after no idea what I will be fireing up ,,,

I went to work on Labor day , I didnt do a lot as there was little to do , but it was a nice day for cigars and coffee while getting paid to do nothing ,,,, my kind of day , good for me bad for the company ......

not much going on , no news from the grandsons , both are working a lot of hours , no time for the old folks .
the customary hunk O beef is in the oven , along with onions peppers garlic and celery , the potatoes will go in the pot about 1:30/2:00

Last night we had Hot sausage sandwiches , with peppers and onions . been lighting up the room with gas all evening and a little more this morning , , man it was some powerfull stuff , my nose was running right after the first bite , the Peppers were HOT .

I think I better get going, get the heat on in the Qtr.Deck , and put on some pants today , to cold for shorts

Good morning /afternoon now , got a late start, it is Sunday 9/16/18 a warm humid day here in da Burgh , looking at the low 80's for a high with humidity in the uncomfortable area.
The paving of Lovi road is over , the new asphalt went down yesterday , the stone still needs to be dropped on the edges , right now we have a 4 inch bump getting in and out , BUT the DUST is gone...

breakfast this morning was bacon and eggs with fresh cheese , sliced and grilled and a little blackberry jam on the toast, the coffee was Purivian , and the morning cigar was a monte Classic , with the end of the Purivian coffee , the next pot is a cold brew Columbian AA , no kona today , and the second cigar will be an aging room churchill when I get to it , I have some pork chops defrosting and they will get a nice breading and fried later with some baked yukon gold potatoes with onions and sour cream.

The grandsons are both using the wives car this week as both of there cars are in for state inspections oil changes and all the rest of the burocrattic BS the state of Pa. has in store for all of us here, 95% of it is BS

I did have a fender bender at work on tuesday , a bit sore , brused and tender , , but the air bag went off and hit me in the face , got a bloody nose , and a few scrapes , took the shock of the impact in the wrists and right up the shoulders , the neck and back still are tender
, and that about sums up my week, got a few great cigars in when I was watching the work on the road, ate a lot of dust , till I got smart and came in the house , DUHHHHH , the grass got cut , and I enjoyed a cigar watching the wife cut it . hahahaha

Good Morning , it is Sunday 9/23/18 the first sunday of the Autumn season , a cool morning here in da Burgh , just 58 F now with a prediction of 70 F for the day .
The road has been resurfaced , painted and deamed open , still a few Guide rails need finished in a few spots but the road is back open, for now , I still have a big pit in the cornor of my yard where the under the road drain is located, , it will need lined with stone soon, it is full of water and I dont want a nesting area for bugs , come next summer .
Since I had my fender bender last week my boss has decided I am more of a libility than an asset , so I was told to turn in my uniforms and keys , ,,,, 2 days a week is not worth the trouble of fighting it , so I will just say I had a good time there and move on .

I made a breakfast sandwich for the boss and my self this morning , a grilled English Muffin , with swiss , egg, bacon and tomato. a pot of coffee and the bag the beans were in said Burinidi, no country , no roasting or grinding notes , dont know where it came from , or how long its been here , , just enough to make a 10 cup pot ..... it was good , but not great, , I have some medium roast Columbian in the drip pot right now , it will get paired with a Don Carlos #3 , my go to Sunday Morning smoke , , well its just afternoon now , didnt get a good start to the day , 007 marathon is on the tube, watching Die an other day ,,,, for about the 20th time .

My grandson is using my wifes car and has had it over a week , some thing wrong with his car , but I have no idea what it is ...... but it needs to come back so she is free to go to her bible study this Tuesday, she didnt want to take my car as it smells like cigars , Imagine that hahaha
I have a 4 .25 pound turkey breast defrosted and ready to stuff , it will go in the oven anot 1:30/1:45 or so , that gives me some time to make the stuffing and the yams .


looks like I have some time for more coffee and a cigar before I start to cook ..... what are you cooking drinking and smoking ??

Good morning , it is Sunday 9/30/18 a cool overcast day here in da Burgh .
The Grandson brought back the wife's car , his is out of the shop and back on the road , it came back clean and with 3/4 of a tank of gas , she is happy to have her car back in the drive way , but now the drive way looks much smaller since there are 2 cars in it side by side , with just my car in the center it looked a lot bigger hahahah , the stink bugs have been out in force, I have sprayed almost everything , and it seams to be working as I go out to get the paper I see tons of dead bugs on the back deck , , I just wonder what it is doing to me and the rest of the enviorment, never thought of the impact of bug spray or weed killer but it is so much in the news its hard to over look. , the TV is just full of political BULLSHIT , extream left and right , no one is in the center anymore , we dont need R and D we need AMERICANS . end of political rant .
Breakfast was a yellow pepper , Vidallia Onion , Jarlsburg cheese and crushed garlic scrambled eggs with a pot of Margoheppie coffee and dark wheat whole grain toast with added wheat unground , added to the bread dough before baking , a real supprise when you bite into a grain .... I havent thought about what pot will be next , got to check the inventory , and the cigar stash and see what will be the choice this morning .
the cool weather has returned and the oven is on today , the hunk O beef of sitting in the cast iron dutch oven , swimming with peppers, onion, celery, carrots and garlic , the spuds will go in later today . I will be baking cod in a crust with spinich and fetta cheese , on Monday , I was going to make it today but out of habbit I pulled a chuck roast out of the frezer last night , so we will have fish on Monday, ,,, we didnt have fish last friday , the Greek Church in Aliquippa was having a food fest , so I went and got over 60 bucks worth of GREAT dishes and a few deserts , cant spell them so I am not going to try , ,,,, egg plant and grape leavers were on the top of my list and I loaded up on them , I did get almost everything on the menu , but left out the spinich pie , as we had spinich in the fridge for the fish, , almost spent as much on the sweets as I did the savory stuff....
we went to Charbucks for coffee last night and a little drive with Cousin Brucie on the radio , the 60's on 6 , I do enjoy the XM radio , , great Jazz, classical , and oldies , , you name the style of music , its there and some BS I dont call music plus, lots of sports and talk shows weather and traffic from all over . who cares about the traffic in LA unless you live in LA , then you all ready know the freeway is jammed bumper to bumper.

Good morning it is Sunday 10/7/18 a warm humid day here in da Burgh , more like August than October , not much going on here , just sitting on the back deck smoking , drinking coffee and sipping a weee dram or 2 , listening to some music at time and other times listening to the traffic , airplanes and power mowers in the area .
Breakfast was a Pepper and sausage roll with an egg and swiss , and a pot of Puruvian estate coffee , and an almond , aparcot biscutti,

Nothing new here at all , just the same old BS recycled again , how ever , I am making cod in Phillio dough with spinich and fetta cheese later today , , I didnt want to turn on the oven as it is going into the 80's today but the spinich will go bad before the weather cools down enough to fire up the oven , well I guess its time to turn the A/C back on.
I have a pot of Nicaraguan medium roast ground supper fine , in the cold press pot , How it got ground to a powder is beyond me , , it will be filtered before it goes in the mug with today's Opus toro ..... after the fish and a little Ouzo , I have a nice Montie ISOM corona and some Greek coffee ..... time to change the coffee line up for fall.....

Good morning it is Sunday 10/14/18 a chilly but bright day here in da Burgh all of 48F outside , But the heat in the Qtr.Deck is on and I have a few cigars ready to go , the coffee is on and I am ready for the day, the HUNK O BEEF is in the oven with all the veggies , the spuds will go in about 1/1:30 , and we should be ready to eat about 4. , Since its getting a little chilly out the boss wanted Oatmeal for breakfast, and she got it with raisins ...... , the coffee this morning was a pot of Columbian Suprimo from the local coffee roaster in New Brighton Pa , Hallowed Grounds .... a great place to get whole bean coffee , but they will grind it for you , I like to grind myself , ,,, get a Burr Grinder not the spinning blade type, , its worth the extra money , go ahead and treat yourself , as I am getting older I find myself not roasting as much of my own coffee anymore ,,,, just getting lazy I guess, hahaha no guess I am a lazy SOB. hahaha
Not much going on , the grandsons are busy with life , my daughter and son in law just got back from Jamacia , , but there bags are lost along with all the coffee and cigars they brought back , I think the TSA/ customs , has the bags as they probably reeked of pot hahahaha .
AHHHH retirement, dont think I can do it much longer, need to get out of the house , away from the Boss a few hours we seam to be in each others way , she needs her space & I need mine ..... time for some soul searching and a cigar hahahaha

Good morning it is Sunday 10/21/18 a chilly overcast morning here in da Burgh , it is all of 37F outside and when I went out to turn the heat on in the Qtr. Deck it was a chilly 40 F inside , got the base board heater on and the oil filled radiator all on and it should be up to temp in less than an hour, so about the time I finish this posting, take a dump , and get my cigars ready , it should be warm ...... Not much happened this week , just life in the burgh , we didnt go anyplace other than Charbucks a few times , a little ride with the roof open and a cigar with coffee and music on the radio , , didnt go anyplace , just drove through town , up one street down the next , wow the excitement , hard to control hahahaha

Breakfast this morning was scrambled eggs with roasted red peppers ,onion and hot pepper cheese , 15 grain bread toasted , buttered and topped with Blackberry s the coffee was from our local roaster it was called Super prime , no idea what it was , where it was from some dark some light beans all in the bag , I guess its there take of my monkey mix , a little bit of everything , the next pot for the cigars is a dark roast coffee from Kenya , being paired with a Zino Low rider to start the day , no idea what will be next .

I will be making chicken and rice today ,,,,,, no hunk O beef ...... how can this be Sunday with out it hahahaha , we have had a few mornings covered with frost , so the growing season is over , & I have grabbed the last of the free veggies out of the garden , , they will all hit the pot with the chicken and rice .

the grandson have been off the radar a few days , both busy at work and being single guys chasing a love life that will keep them happy for a few hours hahahaha

the repaving season is coming to an end soon and the work on the roads is still in full swing , as well as all the gas and oil wells being drilled and pipe lines cutting up the fields in the area, the heavy equipment is tearing up the roads as fast as they are fixed, ,,, the 2 seasons here are pothole season and repair season , , they over lap on both ends , , no matter what direction I go , there is No local road not under construction.... new traffic lights going up , 4 way stop signs , dammm I loved living here 40 years ago , no traffic , no one next door to me , just a field filled with BEEF on the hoof , , it is so built up here , we have a food truck with great steak and hot sausage sandwiches right at the corner about a 9 iron shot away from me .... lucky for me he is closed Sundays , or I might just say to hell with cooking today and grab a nice big hot sausage sandwich with peppers and onions ..... fart city hahahaha

well its about time for me to put on some pants , and get going with the rest of my day , so What are you drinking , smoking and cooking today ???

Sunday 10/28/18 a very sad day here in da Burgh , yesterday a gunman killed 11 people in Temple during the Saturday Service , the news has been wall to wall since it happened , the police had 4 wounded and the shooter is in the hospital with maultabel gunshots ..... I just dont know what to say . it is just beyond me ...
 
Good morning ? afternoon , still not sure, the time change hit last night/ early this morning and we fell back one hour........ STUPID , is all I have to say about it , Pick a time and stick with it , the American Indian said it best,, ONLY the white man would think to cut off the top of the blanket, and sew it to the bottom and you get a longer blanket, ,, we dont need to change the clocks we just adjust to the seasons as they go , its a natural progression , if you live near or on the Equater the change is miniumal , 12 hours of darkness 12 hours of light , the higher or lower you are to the poles is where the big change is , and No one lives at the poles other than scientists, not even the Eskimos live that far north , and I dont think there is an indigenous people on/in antartica . so why bother ??? pick a time and stick with it .

Ok lets get back to the same old BS that has been happening here all the many years , . Before the site was updated , this was a busy place lots of people commenting about all kinds of BS , but over the years it has been just me , I do want it to get back to the way it was. , But I need your help , WHAT are you drinking, smoking and cooking ? whats going on in your life that you want to share?

OK its chilly day but sunny here in da burgh , and Breakfast went off with out a hitch a big Bowl of oatmeal with rasins for the boss , I had peanut butter in mine , no need to add sugar just a splash of cream Yummmmmy this mornings coffee was a medium roast Coasta Rica Sunrise from the coffee roaster in New Brighton , Hallowed Grounds .... good stuff, I have a pot of AA Columbian waiting to brew as soon as I finish my pour over cup of Kona , running low so its just one cup today and not a pot. and of course my buddy Don Carlos #3 will be first up , after that I will need to take a better look in the humidor , maybe a Bahia Maduro , a low cost but a favorite of mine , that and the Maria Mancini Magic Mountain Maduro are great hand mades with a LOW price that Taste great , both are under 100 bucks a box ,,, in my 60 plus years smoking cigars I have found a few hidden gems over the years , some are no longer being made and the Humidor has a big space for any of them if I ever find them again ..... Like the White Tubed Perdomo , I have one red tube , left from a signed box from Nick himself ....

As per Usual the hunk O beef is in the oven ......Boring but it keeps the boss happy , and happy wife, happy life ....
The Murder of 11 people last Saturday is still haunting me along with the wounded still in the hospital ,,, it boggles my mind how much Hate can be bottled up in one person , BUT PITTSBURGH IS STRONGER THAN HATE .

My youngest Grandson got a Promotion at work , he is now putting on a white shirt and tie ( well starting in January ) a nice raise and Longer hours he is not happy with that part hahaha . Grandson the elder , still working at owning his own Business , still putting money in the bank , working as many hours a week as he can hahaha , I am PROUD of both of them , they work for what they want ... no safe space or Government hand outs for them , they both pay for everything they want and need, sure I do help out here and there but its from the heart I give , not forced to. ....

I am coming up on my 5000 mile check up with my 2018 Escape , I have a few things that I dont like about it , but I will get in the swim of things some day I was so comfortable in my old Escape , but with 166K , a bit of rust and a leaking sun roof it was time for a change , , the old one has KNOBS and buttons to push this one is all little buttons to touch , need to look down to find the correct button , the old one I could keep my eyes on the road , reach out and feel the difference and the location , bingo I knew what knob to turn or push , I do like the heated seats , as they didnt work in my old one , not crazy about the color of the inside , but it will grow on me , I loved the inside color of the old one a saddle tan , this one is a light gray , the only other choice was BLACK ,,, No way , to hot in the summer and shows all the ash from the cigars , yes I smoke in the car , ,,,, its mine , I will keep it till its dead , like I have most of my cars UNLESS I hit the lottery BIG ,,,m y luck is I will drop dead that day hahahaha

Good morning it is Sunday 11/11/18 Veterans day a cold bright sunny day here in da Burgh
A big salute to my brothers and sisters At arms , as a Navy Vet I had a great time , made a few life long friends and some great memories were made

.Since today is Sunday and a beef day here , I made a meatloaf instead of the hunk o chuck , and will be baking some spuds with it and maybe some veg but I have to ask the boss what she wants. Breakfast was Oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar , the coffee was Eathopian and the next pot is a mix of a few different African Coffees , the last of this batch and that one and a pinch of this and that , the cigar is going to be a nice new Opus , no age at all on it just got it this week , a very dark wrapper and a bit of a different band than the standard Opus X , the size is a robusto , so I hope to get to it soon , the heat is on in the Qtr.Deck and it was only 28 inside when the heater went on , so I will be hanging out here in the house till it has a chance to warm up , no reason to be chilled , when it gets up to 60 or higher I will grab a wool shirt and Jeans and park my ass in the Man Chair and get the music started the cigar fired up and the coffee flowing .


Not much going on here , we did have a bit of snow yesterday and some is still left in the shadowed areas of the yard , 99.5 % of the snow is gone , just a few random patches here and there , , the trees have given up most of the leaves and the fall colors were not very nice this year , they went from Green to brown and on the ground is just a few days , it was a rain filled few weeks and lots of wind , not much to look at this year.

No news from the grandsons , and it is time for me to get my pants on and get going on my day ,

Good Morning it is Sunday 11/18/18 a cool bright morning here in da Burgh , the temp was 45 In the Qtr. Deck a few minutes ago as I turned on the heat , , should be up to a comfortable smoking temp in 30 to 40 minutes , without needing the wool shirt . We had one hell of a storm this past week after 10 hours of freezing rain we got a few inches of snow on top , a lot of people are still without power as the ice brought down many trees and the power lines , the temp is up and all the snow is gone and the grass is bright green this morning . It was a BEAUTIFUL landscape , everything was covered in snow , it was a postcard moment , everything had a blanket of wet sticky snow , thick heavy wet snow , the cars were in cased in ice from the rain , and thank God for the remote starter ,, got the car started and nice and warm it melted the ice from the inside , we had about 2 or 3 inches of snow on top of one half to 3/4 of an inch of ice under the snow, the roads were trashed , and no one was out and about , just way to bad , but it warmed up and the stuff all melted and just like that , back to normal if you call this normal hahaha
The hunk O beef is in the oven , the Boss is Happy , we had a bacon egg and swiss breakfast sandwich on a grilled Potato bread bun this morning and a Pot of light roast Greek coffee a bag of coffee we picked up at the Greek Food fest a few weeks ago , I didnt know it was that light of a roast till we opened it . , not bad coffee , reminds me of a great cup of coffee we had at the food fest , but lighter , Might have been the same blend but when you add the ouzo to the coffee it changed the flavor and with the baclava adding all that sweetness , it was hard to tell and after 3 or 4 cups , and all the booze , no one cared if it was good or bad . .....

with all the ice and snow Grandson #1 slipped and hit his head , reallly rung his bell got a mild concusion , one hell of a big lump on the back of his head , and had to take a few days off work , a few trips to the chiropractor and he is doing a lot better , all I can say is HURRY UP SPRING TIME hahahaha its not even winter yet and I am looking for spring , This is the time of year a lot of my fellow cigar smokers head south , I tell my wife we should , but she said NO ... ok thats thats No , there is no right of appeal , she hates the heat and humidity and bugs in Fla. .... End of story.

I have a trip to the dentist coming up , its time for the teeth I was born with to come out , before they fall out on their own , , so many are loose and a few broken ,,,, its time . no happy about it , or the PRICE ,,,, dammmmmmm so its a few trips and some sedation ,,,, a few days without a cigar , but I did it before when I had the gastric bypass years ago....
Time for the day of cigars and coffee to start ,

it is Sunday 11/25/18 just one month till Christmas I spent the morning at the cematary putting wreaths on the in laws graves , made the wife happy. , so I am sitting in the Qtr.Deck with a cigar and coffee, and NPR on the radio listening to the TED talks , a verry stress free day , just sitting on my butt, smoking and drinking coffee, , the cigar is the standard Don Carlos #3 and I have the day free from the kitchen , no cooking today , LEFTOVERS from Thanksgiving, so it will be a microwave reheat of everything , , more time for cigars and the radio . the Boss is reading the Sunday paper , I am leaving her alone ..... , wehad a verrrry Quiet week , did nothing all week, thanksgiving was a turkey stuffing, yams and garlic flavor cauliflower .... simple straight forewaed no muss no fuss , and that was our week, the grandsons went to there mothers and her husbands family, we were invited but declined to go , we just needed a day to our selves , so her I sit and smoke , ..... GOOD MORNING IT IS SUNDAY 12//2/18 a warm sunny day here in da Burgh , we are looking for a high of 60 F here today , a big change in the weather today here in da Burgh , the SUN is out and I am going to be sitting on the back deck soon and not inside the Qtr.Deck , I just got off the phone with my internet provider , , I have the xfinity trippple play , phone TV and internent , , everything was working , but I had no picture , just sound the phone was OK and the computer seams ok but no picture just a welcome to the xfinity platform on the TV , , , a service teck fixed the problem with the push of a few buttons on his end and we are back in business ,,,, I like the service but the price is an OUTRAGE, I dont have HBO or any extra movie stations , but my Bill is almost 200 a month if I could get Fios , in my area all 3 services would be 80 bucks a month , I think I am being screwed , but nothing I can do about it , I thought of going to a dish for internet , but it is just as costly and all I want is basic service for the computer , If I go back to a land line dial up service , whitch I had many years ago it was 10 bucks a month ..... , but I dont think they are still in business.

Not even noon yet and the temp is up to 57 F , looks like a walk i n the park with a cigar and coffee is in order ,,,, that will be next on my agenda as soon as I fix the wind chime in the tree for the boss.

Breakfast was a slice of bacon and one egg with a slice of sourdough toast pot of Puverian medium roast and a nice tiny but tasty Clemintine . Since today is Sunday and the Boss asked for a roast , she got it , , it went in the oven about 10:30 this morning a low and slow braise with carrots onions celery and GARLIC ,,, the yukon gold spuds go in about 1:30/2 :00 and should be on the table just before 4 PM , should be fall off the bone tender and the gravy will be a bit tart as I will be adding some sour cream to it

I picked up 2 different scotches this past week a limited edition of a Islay from Coopers choice an indepentent bottler , a cask strenght , single cask , and a 15 year old Islay from an other indepentent bottler , and the name excapes me right now , I am in my computer room at home and the bottle is in the kitchen and I am to dammmmmm lazy to get up and look ., I used to love the stuff from Murry Mcdavid , again an independent bottler , but I havent seen anything from them in years . I want to collect a great batch of scotches but WHY collect when you can drink them !!!!!! , so a Bottle is 400 bucks , SO WHAT , I dont drink it all at one time , I savor it make one snifter full last all evening , , enjoy a fine cigar with it , a mug of coffee or espresso great music on the sound system , and just kick back and enjoy , , no wonder my my blood pressure this morning was 61 over 120 and my heart rate was 59 , and my fasting blood sugar was 102 , not bad for an old out of shape guy who only takes Vitimins and Minerals , the only RX I take is for the thyroid as mine stopped working a long time ago , long before I stopped working hahahaha


I havent seen the grandsons this past week but did get a phone call from each of them , just keeping in touch , reminding me Christmas is on the way I what was I hoping Santa was bringing me ,,,,, just a way for them to say HEY OLD MAN dont forget to g o to the ATM for Christmas this year hahaha


I think its time for me to get my pants on , get a cigar in my jaw and a cup of coffee in my hand and go for a walk .

Deck it was all of 22 F inside , I guess the skylight picked up a small amount of heat from the sun , so I put on the base board and the oil filled heaters , should be good to go about Noon ,, I hope, as long as its over 60 F by then I will be OK , thats why I have a few Wool shirts and a vest , a hat might be in order to keep the heat in the old noggin Jeans , wool soxs and the old stand by boots , as long as my hands are warm I will be fine , , I might fire up the seat heater I took out of the old car as the new one has heated seats , I have one plug inside to hook it up but its the same plug I use for the message unit , And I think I will use it and not the heat, I am a bit tight in the low back , and the heater only gets my ass. so the message is the choice .
Since it is so cold the boss wanted Oatmeal for breakfast, she had hers with raisins , I added a spoon of peanut butter to mine . This mornings first pot of coffee was our CHRISTMAS blend, , I am not a big fan of flavored coffee but this mix insnt all the bad , I do enjoy a few cups each year , to make one pound we start with 8 ounces of dark roast columbian , 4 ounces of hazelnut , 2 ounces of french toast flavored coffee and the last 2 ounces are chocolate cherry flavored coffee , mix all the beans and grind it all at one time let it sit a few days , to allow the flavors to mix , and brew it in a drip pot ... I drink mine black but the boss adds some half and half, , after breakfast I wash out my taste buds with a shot of Pickle juice to get the sweet taste out of my mouth . Now its time for some real coffee , a espresso roast 80% columbian AA and 20% Robusto beans , all ground extra fine and put in the press pot and run through a paper filter to remove all the fine ground coffee that gets past the press, I am not a big fan of the paper filters I think it removes a lot of the flavor you get with the press pot but I hate the grounds in the coffee when you can feel them when you sip.

I picked up a very nice hunk of Angus beef and it is in the oven with onions celery carrots potato and garlic and a few ounces of stock a very well marbled chuck roast I was happy to see , the lady at the market looked at it and said way to much fat , then I explained to her that was better than the leaner cut of round , but talking to some people is like talking to the wall , , she told me it was a more expencive cut so thats why she bought it , give me a rib steak over a tenderloin any day , sure the tenderloin is tender but the flavor is in the fat ... I guess that what makes the world go round , we all have our own ideas .

our Daughter turned 46 on the 6th , hard to believe its been that long seams just like yesterday she was just a BABY , but I guess she will always be Daddy's little pain in the ass !!!! it just makes me feel older that I want to be ,,,, my body tells me to slow down , my mind tells me go on try it , when is the wisdom that comes with old age ever going to kick in ??? I keep wrighting checks that my body cant cash hahahaha , as the oold saying goes , I i didnt hurt when I got up I might think I was dead.

There was a fire less than a mile from me , an indoor archery range went up in smoke , NOTHING left , it was a pole building all wood , heated with a pellet stove , it was a BIG place , and since we dont have city water out here in farm country with tanker fleet was called into service but the pumper truck was sucking up the water faster than the 4 tankers could make the round trip from the creek ,,, back to the fire , and the creek is less that a Qtr. Mile from the fire ,,,, it is all cleaned up and waiting for spring to see what will happen , to rebuild or not ,,, I hope he had insurance

99 % of the Shopping is done , a trip to the card store and the credit union to stuff cash in the cards , BINGO shopping is Done , But I cant get away with that for the wife , she is the remaining 1% , after 48 years of Birthdays anniversarys and Christmas I am running out of ideas , sure the standard stuff that you need is OK , But I like to find some thing she enjoys , we are still using the Petzell Iron I got he 45 years ago , we break it out every Christmas and make a few batches , clean it up put it away till next year. I drink and smoke up all my gifts so replacing them is no problem for her to find something for me

No news from the grandsons this past week , both are busy young men Between Work and school , love life and what ever else they just dont have the time to visit like they did when they were younger , I did get to talk to them on the phone a few time last week , and they called me so thats a good sign they are looking for that early Christmas cash hahahahaha

retirement Sucks Big time , I just need a place to go , OUT of the house away from the wife , for a few hours , the Qtr.Deck is great but its to close to home , its to cold to go for a walk and I am to tired to be gone long enough anyway hahahaha , I dont want to spend a few hours in some bar or coffee shop I want to do something ... what I have no idea , to old to start a new job , I dont want relearn anything , and I know I am not able to go back to the kitchen as a Profession , I just want some thing Part time doing next to nothing , no early starts , no late nights , not OUTSIDE this time of the year , and a place where my cigars are not EXCLUDED , Hummm Maybe I should open a cigar shop,,,,, Hell No I dont want the Hours or the headache .. I guess I need to learn how to live with Being OLD hahahaha

Good Morning it is Sunday 12/16/18 a some what warm and wet day here in da Burgh right now it is in the mid 40's and raining off and on , it has been like this the past 24 hours , just wet and gray day .

The Sunday morning smoke was a great way to start the day a ISOM Monte #2 Torp. the Grand daddy of cigars , the coffee was kona and the match was a little over powered by the cigar , it needed a bolder coffee to keep up with the cigar , both were great on there own but not a great pair this morning , maybe I should have stuck with the Don Carlos #3 , But what did I have to loose , whats better than a #2 ???? ,,, some times almost anything if you dont need to pay for it hahahaha

Breakfast was a quick one this morning just eggs and toast , , a whole grain sour dough from a local shop , I love that tart taste and crunch of the crust , I do like the sour, bitter taste , better than the sweet, , give me a slice of Key lime pie anytime , a bottle of Squirt over a Coke , an Islay scotch over bourbon any time . thats just the way my taste bud run , no accounting to anything ,, just the way it is . like if I had my choice of a gin and tonic over a rum and coke , I go with the gin and a lot of lime ... but my go to is a smoky scotch . .... or a dark roast coffee , or BOTH .. but in seperate cups and snifters, ,,, I do have a few Glencarren scotch nosing glasses , but I would rather have a nice brandy snifter

Yesterday the wife and I made 18 dozen Christmas Pittzells , 2 at a time , it took up most of the day , Christmas Music in the living room , and we sang along when the spirit moved us ,,,, I did ask her at one point what she did with the money her parents gave her for voice lessons ,,,, hahaha she was not amused at all hahahaha , if you ever watched I love Lucy , you might have an idea how she sings hahahaha


I got all my shopping done but I still cant find the correct Christmas card for the wife , I am looking for a Funny Card , not a mushy slobbering card of good taste .... I have found them in the past but this year I am coming up EMPTY ,,,,

The Boss just brought in more coffee , a dark roast columbian ... coffee with Gravitas , bold and bitter , not to hot , just right to sip

Breakfast was so long ago I dont remember what I made , .... oh yea eggs and toast , but I all ready told you about it , dammmm my mind what little of it is left is getting me mixed up ,,,, so nothing new here hahahaha


I pulled some pork chops out of the freezer last night and will be breading them for frying later along with a yam with fresh cinnimion and nutmeg , if I get it out of the freezer we might have some green beans with garlic .... but thats up to the boss,
NO hunk O beef today , the last 2 we had were both great , lots of taste and a great gravy 2 weeks in a row.... she said I might have a future in the kitchen hahahahaha


Last thursday I took her car in for the air bag recall , after waiting 2+ years for the parts to come in hahahaha , it was fixed in 4 hours , a free fix cost 124.00 bucks , , state inspection 2 new wiper blades and a tire rotation ,,, but I did get 2 donuts and coffee for free in the waiting room , hahahahaha. Her car is a 2007 Mercury Milan , with just about everything you would want in a car, sun roof, leather seats, the whole 9 yards of comfort with only 67K miles on it , I love the comfort and even the looks are good , My New 2018 Escape isnt as nice or comfortable .... BUT I am not allowed to smoke in her car so we take mine all the time ...

Grandsons are both working overtime hours and have had a few short phone calls and thats about it , I still remember going to my grandparents as a kid , I was lucky to have both sets and 2 great grandmothers in my life , now I am the grandfather , and dammmmm I feel OLD . , but thats better than being dead I think ? hahahaha

the rain has stopped for a short time I checked the radar and it looks like we have about an hour before it returns , so I am grabbing my jacket and going for a stroll with a cigar and coffee .

Good morning it is Sunday 12/23/18 a chilly clear wet day here in da Burgh , and wet id the word of the day , we have had very little snow but a lot of rain , , the good thing is you dont have to shovel the rain but it is causing a lot of troubles for a lot of people , we are getting a lot of land slides as the ground is so soft from all the rain the hills are just sliding down , a lot of roads are closed a lot of homes have been damaged , and no end in site , the record of rain in one year is close to being broken , the last time it took the remenents of a Hurricane to give us this much water , well its just your garden verity rain storms , my back yard is a swamp , right down the road a new pond has sprung up in a front yard , fishing is optional hahahaha .

the tree is up the Gifts are wrapped , the menu is set and all is quiet , just waiting for Santa hahahaha

I am taking the day off again , just Burghers and Fryes , because the HAM is going in the oven on Monday , we are bypassing the all the fish dishes this year , breaking a long time standard of sea food on Christmas eve , , going to our daughters Christmas morning , for Brunch , and the ham will be the center piece .





since I will not be making a big Sunday supper today I made a great breakfast , pan grilled cheese blintz with sour cream, and red pepper jelly , fat in the sour cream helps with the heat in the peppers , coffee was a pot of Christmas blend , flavored with a touch on hazelnut, vanilla , cinnimon and Chocolate ..... I am not a fan of flavored coffee , but I did drink it .

Good morning /Afternoon , when ever , it is Sunday 12/30/18 the last Sunday of 2018 and it is a bright cool day here in da Burgh a high of 42F is expected, the heat is on in the Qtr.Deck , my Grandson hooked me up with a voice command system tied into the Google home assistant , all I say is google Open the Qtr.Deck and the heat or A/C depending on witch is pluged in and the light come on ,,,, I can do it from the bathroom if I want hahahaha , the living room light and the kitchen light are also hooked up , the kid is dragging us into the 21st century if we like it or not .
Santa has come and gone , all the exchanges are finished for size , color and fit , mine just get turned into ash and Piss , ( scotch and cigars ) , I am so easy .....

Breakfast was a ham and egg sandwich on an english muffin with swiss cheese and tomato , and the coffee was the same as last week the Christmas Blend , after it is gone I will be glad , , but it was a nice touch for a week or so but I miss my kick your ass black coffee .... we have been hitting charbucks for a dbl espresso a few times a week , well every day this past week , some times twice hahahaha , Dunkin donuts dosent have a drive up window , so it is a trip to charbucks or mcdonalds , yep I am that lazy I dont want to get out of the car, hahaha

We did have a very quiet christmas this year , just the wife and myself , in the morning , we did go to the daughters before noon and spent a few hours there , but the little kids and babys comming and going got on my nerves a bit , I dont know how I will take to great grandchildern( my daughters Step daughter has one and the foster child they raised has 2 ) But I dont see them much at all and when I do its fine for an hour or so , but I think it will be better in the summer whenthey are able to move arround and be away from me hahahaha , they are cute and cuddly but LOUD hahaha , gives me chills thinking about it hahahaha


This morning cigar was a Bahia Gold Maduro robusto .a shot of Irish whisky ws in the coffee to ward off the cold , the temp was a chilly 38 F , the walk was short and sweet just like the cigar and the coffee hahahaha , I have no idea what I will be smoking next , the afternoon coffee is a dark roast from Brazil so what I grab out of the humidor will be a medium to full , in the toro or churchill size , something with a cameroon wrapper .... who knows till I look .


I will be doing the traditional Pork and Krout for new years so today we are cutting back a bit as so there are no left overs as the Christmas ham is still in the fridge , almost gone but still here , so why make stuff when we need to finish the old stuff, ,,,, easy day for me , just reheat...

Good morning it is Sunday 1/6/19 a Merry Christmas to our Orthadox Friends and relitives , a some what warm day here in da Burgh , about 40F with a 60% cloud cover and a SW wind in the low teens with a few gusts to the high teens , the wind chimes are singing for sure .
Yesterday was my brother in laws 60th birthday and we went to there place for cake and the regular BULLSHIT, , but him and my son in law and I went to the cigar shop for a weee dram and a cigar , saw a lot of old friends. It was like I never left , I sat in my old chair , BUT I didnt get up to cash out any customers , it was a nice evening .


Breakfast this morning was a bacon and egg on a bun , I just didnt feel like cooking much , and with the new year came a new diet, .... not a new year diet as one would think , but a diet forced on us from a bug, of sorts , both the wife and I have been feeling like shit for the past few days , nothing tastes at all , frequent trips to the bathroom , and a clogged head , no fever but a cough , that rattles your bones .

I made a pot of ham and cabbage soup yesterday , we had that last evening and will finish it today or Monday. The ham Bone has been in the freezer since Christmas and it mad a WONDERFUL broth for the soup. I feel a lot better today with the sun out I might go for a cigar walk today , the weather man tells us we should hit 50 some time today . when I do walk with a cigar I have coffee to go with it , but today I might make it an Irish coffee , with out the sugar and whipped cream, just a big splash of Redbreast and a few drops of black coffee and some ISOM stick to help get rid of the winter BLAWS .

I just told Google to open up the Qtr.Deck and it turned on the lights and the heater , so I will be comfortable when I get back from my walk , it should be about 30 to 45 minutes from now , the temp. inside will be close to 70 and all I will need to do is figure out what music I want to play.


I am enjoying the time off , and will be looking for a new part time job in the spring , it will be Limited hours and days , close to home and EASY to do , I dont care about the money , just need to get out of the house and out from under the wifes area of Influence , we tend to clash when we spend to much time together , I know deep down in side she is the boss, 49 years together has taught me that , but there are times I want to do things MY way ,,,, hahahahaha
The second pot of coffee just finished brewing , after the morning pot of Ethopian Estate of some sort , I have the Sunday KONA , I just made 4 cups , and my mug holds 2 cups , so I will be needing an other pot of something for the walk as I will finish the Kona before I go , , Maybe a Kenya , or Indian coffee , I dont know I will see whats roasted and ready to grind .

Good morning it is Sunday 1/13/19 , a cold snow covered day here in da Burgh , I was up and out before the sun today removing a few inches of snow from the drive way , and side walks both the front and back decks as well as the ramp to the qtr.Deck , the heat is on and I have a few cigars to smoke later today , so far I am cigarless , but that will change asap.
Breakfast was a bowl of Oatmeal with peanut butter melted in it , and the coffee is Eathopian Mocomba , I have some pork chops defrosting for later today , and I will be making some noodles to go with the chops , maybe some Green beans , maybe not , the boss hasnt decided if she wants them , if I do make them I will chop up some bacon and onions and saute the beans with the bacon and onions .

we got a few inches of powdered snow last night , light and fluffy , the state trucks were out a few time last night and this morning the temp is 29 F right now and with the sun out some of the snow is melting with a little help from some ice melt I tossed on some of the thickest areas , the state pre treated the roads with a brine solution last night and some of it did make it into my drive way , any help is good , so the area is all clean and the Sunday paper is not here yet ...... its supposed to be here by 830 but its now almost noon ......

Monday is the youngest grandsons 21st Birthday , I plan on taking him to the same bar I took his mother when she turned 21, it has different owners now but the bar is still the same ..... he said he might have a cigar with me hahahaha like that never happened before ....

I have a Bahia Gold maduro robusto calling my name , the coffee is hot and I am ready to start off the day with a cigar and coffee, , the chops should be ready by 4 today , so I have a lot of cigars to smoke before then, and maybe a weeee dram to warm the hand s and feet hahaha , Enjoy, Vince
