Thompson Cigar sampler?

I've been getting an email offer every couple weeks for the last few months from Thompson for a sampler set of 12 cigars valued at $90 for $35. I want to buy one, but you have to be 21. Have any of you gotten it? What are the free gifts it comes with?

never tried em, been tempted but hear that they are crap. but i am sure their better than black and mild.

Dopey, stay away from Thompsons, there are plenty of legite venders out there without having to subject yourself to their incompetence. Plenty of good deals as well.

If you see a sampler that has cigars that you were going to try anyway, then some of the samplers are an okay deal. All the little cases, cutters, hats and other things pile up as useless stuff. Once they started contacting me by phone as a follow-up, then sent an order I did not okay (based on a credit line they opened for me, also not okayed by me), I drew the line and stopped dealing with them. I hate to think what the experience has been for those who try the "Cigar of the Month Club", since I don't go for automatically renewed shipments. I'd also rather buy and try cheapo bundles from other sources, than to deal with Thompson.

Personally, I haven't ordered from them. I've seen the add for the 12 cigar sampler you're talking about and it looks cool. Except there are only three cigars that sound worthwhile. I haven't ordered from them since all I have heard about them is bad. There service bad and I've heard once you order from them, their communications (snail maile, email) become relentless.

Forget the "T" word. There are plenty of great sites out there, and they all have specials of their own. Listen to "Congress," because we've been through the "T" word's wringer. Don't buy from them. Their catalog, should you ever find it in your mail box can be educational, but do your buying elsewhere. And when you're finished reading the catalog, I hear it makes great bird cage liner. Your birds will learn about cigars too.

Dopey,

Bloof is right, lots of companies have there own package. Here is the one we offer at Cigar.com. Torch Lighter (guaranteed for life), double bladed stainless steel cutter with grips and 6 90 rated smokes. It is a 75.00 value seperately, I sell it on my gifts section for $49.95 and when I run marketing promotions and advertising I sell it for $29.95 through a special web page (see link below). Just thought you might want another option or alternative.

thats awsome! i have been looking for a decent cutter deal for a while, and my lighter just broke on saturday. and two of those cigars i have tried so i pretty much got a couple to give to freinds. thanks for posting the better deal link here alex. cigar.com has the best service ever, seriously.

Sounds like a good deal. Maybe I'll try it. I got a Thompson catalogue that has a pretty good deal for a humidor and 3-25 packs (75 smokes in all) but I'm reluctant to buy something that includes so much of something I'm not sure I like. I'll probably just buy a humidor on eBay.

EDIT: By the way, how much is shipping on that Cigar.com gift set?

heard so many complaints about thomsons, has anyone here tried them? i wont just becease of posts but am tempted when i see 125 cigars for next to nothing. what are they? iveseen lots of "wheels of 50" on other sites and was wondering if thomsons is worse or if i should avoid ALL so called bargains. if their so good, why you gotta commit to so many? i hate buying 20 cigars that i am not familiar with, let alone 125

anyone company that stands behind its cigars or bargains smokes will let you buy one at a time without having to commit to 125 or at a minimum sell you a 5 pack

Jrinam, the reason you've heard so many complaints about the "T" word is because we've ALL tried them. Most people who joined the cigar smoking community within the past 10-15 years actually ONLY knew the "T" word for a while, like ME. We opened up the mail box to find their catalog one day, and presto, we started ordering. Then as time went on we discovered what a bunch of incompetent, pigheaded representatives they have when we had to call or write with a problem. Just TRY getting them to fix a problem to your satisfaction.

Because trying to get them to fix a problem was such a chore, we started exploring the internet and local cigar shops. It was then we discovered that when the "T" word sells a box of cigars for $110, it means it sells elsewhere for $85. If they sell a box of cigars for $225, it means it sells elsewhere for $175. If they are selling a box of cigars for $85, it means you can get it for $60 somewhere else. If they have something on sale for $97, it means it costs $85 REGULARLY somewhere else. Not to mention they have exorbitantly high shipping charges.

Believe me, we complain and we make jokes because we REALLY KNOW how much they suck.

guess i am fortinate, never tried them. got magazine from a non-smoking friend, noticed name brands was higher than local shop, but their brands are really cheap. they had web adress listed, it gave me idea to search web for cigars. i have many sources of cigars now,all competative, time will tell about competance. and thomsons isnt one.

dont think i will ever buy from thomsons, but just want to know. what are the cigars like? read at least 100 complaints about people getting double orders or wrong orders, but nothing on cigars. WHAT ARE CIGARS LIKE? i already know their name brands are very overpriced, and house brands are cheaper than the local crack whores. only been on this forum and several others about a month, this is the only worthwhile forum, and ive posted questions about thomsons and a few others but never got a straight answer about the cigars themselves. i assume dopey was asking the same. dont want to start a new thread on same/similar question, just want to know the deal with all these house brands. my first internet order was jr's, ive since ordered from hereCIGAR.COM, and holts. and next will be c.i. and famous. i am sampeling "house brands" and still buying name brands at local cigar store. so far,CIGAR.COM is the only one offering singles and a sampler with one of ea. and i did order it! all other sell you 20, 25, 50, or evan 100. i am sure some of you have been temted with these deals, and a lot of newbees are going to be so would greatly apreciate some insite, as i am running out of room for all these cigars.

Forget house brands in ANYBODY'S catalog or web site for the MOST part. Go for inexpensive name brands. There are plenty out there. As for house brands specifically, wait around a bit more, you'll get replies. There are some good ones, from what I've heard, and different cigar smokers have their preferences as to whose house brand they like. The guys at cigar.com seem to have some interesting selections, both house and name brands, many of which I'm not familiar with, and when it's time to go cigar shopping, I'll be sure to check them out. I've also heard that JR's has some good house brands.

As for the "T" word's house brands, from what I've heard, forget about them. As for what I KNOW, before they pulled the boneheaded play that they failed to rectify, even after SEVERAL phone calls, I was dealing with them quite a bit. They had a very thick house brand called Leviathan, which was very, very good. They stopped offering it shortly after I bought it. Too bad. Whether or not any of their other house brand cigars are any good, I wouldn't know, but I've heard they suck.
