I know that most are not big fans of the flavored cigars but what about the true tobacco cigars from Drew Estates? I was at my local shop and noticed the prices were fairly low. I gave them the smell test and they seemed pretty good. I picked one up and will try soon. I just wondered what everyone else thought??? Thanks as always.

They're pretty much all flavored unless you're talking about the La Vieja. If that's the case, just throw it in the trash and save the puking experience. The Sauza is another story though I will say. I'm not a fan of flavored cigars myself but these are delicious.

The Natural is pretty good. It has a slight swet taste to it but all together a good smoke.

I picked up the Java the other day on a recommendation. I haven't smoked it yet but I plan to tomorrow.
I'll let you know.

I hear Jonathan has hired Steve Saka to help push into the tobbacco
flavored market.
For those who don't know Steve - he has been Lew Rothmans
(JR cigars) right hand for years and is by far one of the most knowledable cigar guys out there.
Also vey nice person with some amazigly funny stories!
Jonathan my just make it with Steve's help.
As for what he has created till now - TRASH!

Yeah I was talking about La Vieja and now I dont know if I will give it a try for $2 or just save it for when a not so great friend comes over for a smoke. hehe. As for the acids, Im not a big fan and will steer clear. It was like smoking a bottle of perfume and thats not a good thing!

Quag: Is the natural an acid or is it truely o'natural and what is the cost? I suppose cost is the real reason I ask the question about Drew Estates. Their stuff seems to be pretty cheap. I guess in this case you get what you pay for. :?

Any other suggestions for a great $2-$3 cigar???

I had an Industrial Press Brickk by Drew Estate. It was a well built, solid smoke. It wasn't complex but I enjoyed it none-the-less. I didn't detect any non-tobacco flavorings...I would definately smoke one again. I don't know any of the personalities behind the cigars and I haven't had many good experiences with the Drew cigars, but this one was decent in my book.

I like the Kahlua cigars they put out as well, especially the tins. They are a good quick smoke. I'm generally not a fan of flavored cigars (another exception is the Makers Mark cigar), but these are good.

I'm not a big fan of the ACID cigars, with the exception of the ACID #1. It is not an oil/incense flavored cigars - instead, the tobacco has been infused (soaked, however it's done) in red wines and sangria. It has a nice taste but still 'feels' like a cigar, unlike the other ACID sticks which to me are like smoking potpurri.

I recently heard he now the president of Drew Estate. I about fell out of my chair. I would never have seen that one coming. But if anyone is going to change the image of drew estate in the premium market he is going to be the man. I am just still in disbelief. I go completely blindsided by the news.

hehe... Well, to each his own. I've only had a couple of them and I thought they were pretty good.

How about the leather patch series? I've been curious about them for a while (not curious enough to try one yet obviously , but...).

acid one tastes like burning.

I have not had the natural personally but know it is not a flavored cigar persay. It is advertised as a blend of national tobaccos that creat a flavor. The La Vieja was the worst cigar I've had yet but to you it could be the best. I doubt it but even if somebody says a cigar sucks you shouldn't be discouraged. I just know that I only smoked this because it was "gifted" to me. In truth, the store owner couldn't sell them so he gave one to me. Me being foolish, I took it.

For the most part, Drew Estate has built a good business out of making the most of not so good tobacco. It's a good shtick.

I've smoked a few Acids. I bought an Acid sampler about 2 years ago. Some of them were enjoyable; but I didn't finish what I had. In fact I recently threw out the last four sticks to make room in my humi for a box of brazilias. I don't forsee ever smoking a Drew Estates product again.

Just my $.02,

Back to the question of validity..... No. I think that Hyundai has a better shot at becoming a valid top line luxury car maker than Drew has at premium cigar validity. Bringing Steve Saka aboard was interesting, but IMO he should tell them that they should stick to flavored. Not sure what help he'll be at establishing a valid premium status.

Even Ford needed Lincoln to establish top end validity...and Toyota needed Lexus. Drew will need another company because Drew Estates is flavored scrap tobacco to too many people.
