Well, I've tried to understand it, . . .

but I just don't get it.

I'm talking about this thing some people talk about called a summer time bourbon. Don't get me wrong, there are some days that I do try, like when it's in the upper 70's to low 80's, low humidity and I'm spending almost all my time in the basement with all the windows open. It's amazing how much cooler a basement of a house is than the first floor. Notwitstanding that, it just doesn't taste the same, even on dry, pleasant days.

And of course forget about Sunday, which roared to 90 with all the wonderful humidity that we know so well in the Northeastern USA.

I just can't do it. It doesn't taste the same. Almost makes me gag. You can have your summer time bourbons. I'll wait until it's nighttime and it's gotten to be less than 60, preferably less than 50 degrees, which it actually does get to be on some of those summer like days, at least in my area. We have extremely wide temperature swings in my area of Dutchess County, being in low mountains and out in the country. Quite pleasant, but forget about drinking bourbon on those 85-100 degree afternoons, even in the basement, even a weakling like Basil Hayden's 80 proof and pleasant, straw like flavor.

Bourbon and rye's for the winter, football, snow shoveling, chicken soup, highs around ten degrees, now THAT'S bourbon and rye weather.

I think I need some more rum and gin. Oh right, got the rum, need more of that Bombay Sapphire gin.

Tonight is around 58 or so, warm rain just stopped, full Strawberry Moon is peeking out of the departing clouds. I have my farmers porch, HdM Epi #2, my favorite rocks glass, and fresh ice. The libation? A new find, haven't really rated it yet. Fighting Cock 103 proof Bourbon.

Bloofington, any words of wisdom or enlightenment on this new find of mine?

Actually Colonel Sir, no words of wisdom, but I'll tell you this. Please get back to us with an opinion. I have long been curious about that bourbon, but haven't had the impetus to give it a try. Looking forward to your review. Oh, by the way, great cigar. You wouldn't by any chance be a refugee from "another web site" would you?

Another web site??? Hmmm... You'd be suprised, I think.

As for the 103, wow, just wow. Very mellow, almost a vanilla kind of after tate. The smoothness of a 103 proof is a sign of the Master Distillers talent. There is no dreaded after burn, no singed nostil hair. Perusing your master list of favorites, I think you will like this one.

Maybe not that surprised, since HdM Epi2's don't grow on trees. As for that bourbon, you've got my attention. It's on the list for a future purchase.

Hey Bloof..... How many men does it take to open a bottle of bourbon?

None. It should be opened when she brings it to you. :D

Bloof,

With your bourbon temperature settings,

I'd never get to drink bourbon during the summer here in the People's Republik of Kalifornia.

Less than 50 degrees?? I might as well be sober.

Oh, by the way, don't forget I said when the nights are preferably in the 50's or below. That allows the days to be in the 70's and indeed, I just finished a two shot glass of my No. 10 bourbon, George T. Stagg 2003, at 142.7 proof. :eek:mg:

:biggun:

:tomcat:
