The term golf cigar is one I've seen a lot around here, and on the cigar.com website. I'm not much of a golfer, but I'm trying to learn (I won a set of RAM Graphite clubs on the radio 2 years ago- now I need to look like I deserve clubs like that)

What makes something a "golf cigar" - What qualties do you look for before hitting the links, and why? I'd hate to be out there with awesome clubs, a terrible swing, and a cigar that says I like curling. So I can fix the cigar issue here, and work on the swing this summer.

The poll is based on CC's golf section under "suggestions"

Topic is supposed to say "golf cigar" -with a closed quote, but the DB doesn't like my quote at the end of the line, so it makes it an &. Yaay!

On the golf course, for me anyway, I prefer a cigar that have been known to not have any draw or relight problems. I know there will be a stick in a dozen that will have problems.

Also, I prefer at least a toro-sized stick to last me at least 1 hour for the front and back course. I usually carry about 2-3 toro sticks for myself. If not, then I'll bring some churchills, 1-2 sticks. For robustos, I'll bring about 3-4 sticks.

I was going to take my Gurkha Centurian XX last night, but it doesn't fit in my Cigar Caddy. That XX is too fat (60-ring guage).

As far as flavors, I'll take some that I haven't tried before, or just my usual favorites (anything Fuente, Gurkhas, Cusano, c.com cuban label).

I like the C.com Cuban label and anythig Cusano. I gfo with something I like and know the flavor profile of then I don't need to pay attention to it as much... Not that I am a good golfer.

Just got off the course right now, so this is a great question. Like T said - something that you don't have to re-light too much - on the links you don't want to pay attention to it.

The Cusano 18 is a great one for it - I always bring a Sol Cubana Maduro on the course with me. Today I had an Occidental Reserve Double Broadleaf - that worked out well too.

I don't do Churchills because I have the worst luck with them - I have to relight way too often - but I am a geek so it's probably my own fault.

I'd recommend bringing something that's mild or light and has no lighting/relighting issues. I walk almost every course I play and may inhale a little too much smoke from time to time. If that happens my golf game goes out the window, so I feel a milder cigar helps me with that.

I like to have a cigar that I know will burn without any issues and that I already know I will enjoy. I never bring anything that I have not smoked before. I like to take fuente 858

I'm with everyone else. Something with a good draw that isn't too expensive. I tend to ignore it a bit too much and don't want to waste a super premium being too distracted to enjoy it.

I'd take a super premium on a slow course. Like smoking a cigar, I hate to be rushed in golf play. Yeah sure, I'm always the one lagging behind trying to catch up as a golf noobie, but I'm the only one with a cigar and enjoying it. :D

I don’t golf. But when I watch people golf I go with a toro. Usually something sweeter because I’m outside and its hot. (I prefer a more robust and full flavored if its cool.) Usually this sweeter cigar goes with whatever drink with an umbrella I have in my hand. With any luck there is an ash tray close so when I have to get up out of my lounge chair to grab a snack I can set the cigar down for a few and not worry if it is burning anything or getting wet.

golf is not a game.
golf is not a sport.
golf is a difficult task.

While I know how to golf I gave up on the game this year. Instead I am spending more time shooting sporting clays and skeet. When I golfed, I would smoke anything but more often than not I would have a Cusano 18. In addition to needing a cigar that does not have many burn problems, I also found that you need a cigar that can take some punishment. If you take a camacho or other cigar that has a more brittle wrapper it will look like someone lit a firecracker in it when you make the turn.

Now when I shoot I actually prefer something smaller like a robusto, corona, or lonsdale.

The only time I bring a macanudo out on to the course if I dont have any tees

:rotflmao: Since I don't golf (golf is for those who can't shoot a moving target  ) I cant comment. But, shooting a round of sporting clays is kind of similar, except you golfers are in the open, and we are in the woods. 80% of the time, I have a Cameroon Label attached to the O/U via a cigar minder. The other 20% I am cursing and not smoking.....

I hunt doves and quail. I've never tried skeet. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Where I hunt, it's mostly desert terrain (90-110 deg F). Jack rabbits all over the place. And Fish & Game officers patrols. But the officers are cool. They just check our license, gear and catch, and then take us to where the action is. I haven't smoked anything during the hunt because of the dry climate and brushes.

Forgot to mention - the cigar minder is ESSENTIAL on the course. Gotta have it - don't want to be putting the cigar down on the green or fairways where they are treating it with chemicals. And near the sand traps - yuchhh.

I agree!! BTW, I hope all of you golfers know I was just teasin' ya. Frankly, I am jealous of you because I don't have that much patience!

We should all get together. I'll tee off and you'll have your moving target. I hate putting anyway. It'll work out great for both of us. You buy the balls and I'll bring the cigars.

That would be really great to do, I would be happy to host a Cigar.com outing up at my course.

I'd make a deal with you Capt - you work on getting out here for golf - and I'll work on getting out to you for hunting! I have always had an itch to do that, but no opportunity.

My wife is gonna be up in AC next week. I should've made plans to go with her!

If you make the trip next time, let me know - I will definitely shoot down there.
