I used to do just that, couple of decades ago. Worked for an oil-service company in Houston, in research. My job was to fabricate then test-fire shaped charges, which are used in oilwell completions work. Drill string down the hole, needs a hole in it, best way is to push air through it at a gazillion psi, then the oil flows out of the surrounding rock. We used RDX, HMX and plastique with copper/lead conical linings. Did a bit of research into parabolic linings, based on info from Los Alamos labs. Never got anywhere with that, as it turns out their test shots were done in the wrong media. Gummint. feh
Spent six years doing that. Never lost any body parts, but a couple of other guys did. Nowadays I sit behind a desk and explain things to people on the phone. All in all, I prefer the desk
