Wrapped or not?

Good morning to you all! A question asking for opinions on wether one should unwrap cigars when storing in a Humidor.?? Thanks

Do you mean removing the cellophane wrapper? That's really just a matter of personal preference. Leaving the wrapper on is "supposed" to slow the aging process if that's what you want.. I've heard both sides of that. Some say it does nothing, some say it slows aging. But in the end it's really up to you. I leave mine on to minimize damage to the cigar.

There really is no "right" way. But, I unwrap for long term storage (years.) I keep the cellophane on if I know I'm gonna smoke them soon (with in months.)

I find it handy to keep the cellophane on for trades and possible PIF packages or Box Passes.

They say that cigars "marry" when stored (picking up the aroma of eachother.)

Iused to but then I started to just leave the wrappers on. Makes it easier when you go out as the wrappers protect them more.

Also will keep them a bit more "fresh" if you go out.

Although the cellophane is not air tight, it does indeed prevent proper aging of the cigar. I think the people who have made mention of the long or short term, as well as going out and trading aspects, have brought up interesting points. If one can give any thought to what one might do with a cigar over time, then perhaps a decision should be made.

As for me personally, I take the cellophane off immediately, unless I know for a fact that those cigars are going to be sent out soon. If they are, I'll just pack them up and send them out as quickly as possible. Usually, any cigar will spend at least several months in my humidors, therefore the cellophane comes off.

This is also a great reason. I rotate the cigars in the desktop and the cellophane helps prevent wrapper damage.

Thanks a bunch! Very helpful info. I have always planned out my week by unwrapping 3 or 4 on Monday and smoking them on Saturday and Sunday. Your help and welcome to this forum has just been super! :D

Part of the beauty of cigars is their appearance and construction. Cello takes away from that.
Just like most women, they look prettier naked!
I buy Camacho and most of those lines come without cello. And those are pretty looking cigars.
I keep cello on most of the medium cigars that don't command an entire tray or section of the humi. To avoid marrying.
Regular rotation and whole trays are all naked.

Bloofington, do you let two different unwrapped cigars touch? Would they transfer flavors?

I would have to agree with some previous posts. I take the cello off of my cigars. Mainly for my own selfish reasons of wanting to see the beauty of my investment. However, my father in law and brother in law swear to keep them on and haphazardly just drop em in the humi without the meticulous obsessions that I show towards them. So mainly it is up to you. However, I have found that if you place them in a spot you might want to keep them or be very careful when you are moving them about as they can easily damage the wrapper. A second reason I hate the cello is I worked in a cigar shop and I hated dealing with it. I always appreciated a customer who brought his up already ready to cut and light. Off or on, just do what makes you happy and enjoy the smokes.

If you handle your cigars a lot, then you should keep the cello on. If I am going to smoke it inside of 6 months I keep it on. If I age it, I take it off. However, I really only age boxes anyway so I guess it does not matter.

If the cigars come with cello on them, I leave them on. I am way too lazy to go through a bunch of boxes and remove the cello.

I usually take the cello off right away, but if I buy a box I'll usually leave it on. I mostly buy singles though, so off it comes. I like the way they look naked.
