Summer is here, and is been 70 to 95 degrees the past week. I'm having a hell of a time keeping my humidors cool. I keep the humi's in my bedroom and try to keep the room temp aroung 72degrees. So the humi temp is 73 to 77 degrees. I really don't have any other place to store my humis. I affraid I'm going to have beetle problems. My beads seem to be holding my Rh at 63 to 65%, which is great. How do you all deal with the summer temps? And at 72 to 77deg. do I really need to worry about the bugs? I think a wine cooler is out of the question at this point. Thanks for the help :)

I live in an area where the temps in summer range from 95 to 119 degrees and as long as you can keep your humidity down you should not have a problem. In the summer months I usually keep my humis down around 62 to 64%. never had a problem here.

I too am in the summer heat. I think if your in the 70-75 zone you'll be ok, but it above 75 is pushing it. .02 cents

Jesse, it's going to be tough, since you're a Northeasterner. You know full well that incredible dewpoint temperatures (combination of heat and humidity) can occur in the Northeast. Even without recharging my humidifiers, it's hard. And forget about keeping them open, because on some days, that can actually raise humidity and temperature. It's that time of year again, in the Northeast, and cigar owners just have to tough it out. It's only like this for three months max though, but when you're keeping precious stogies, they can be three potentially dangerous months. :dunno:

I put my Humi's in the basement. RH stays steady and the highest temp i've had was 69 degrees.

You can take an ice pack and put it in a ziplock bag and put it in your humi...

Mine are in the basement. Doesn't help. :cryinlaugh: :rotflmao: :cryinlaugh:

Here in Michigan its been in the 90s with pretty high humidity for the past week or so. I'm keeping my 2 humis in the basement for the summer. I've been monitoring them just about every day and the highest the temp has gotten inside is around 68.

If it gets really warm down there I'm thinking of freezing a couple of water pillows and putting one in each humi. Any thoughts on that?

Michigan here as well and I hit 78 degrees inside my humi with an RH of 69, I'm seriously considering the a/c and hopefully some lower temps and the drier (as in easier to manipulate) air conditions that come with it.

Question for the wise men and women here: Is the a/c going to have any adverse effect on my stash?

You may have to recharge your (insert humidity source here) more often but other than that, I don't think it should cause any problems.

Owing to concerns over heat in Texas, I've ordered a 28-bottle Avanti thermoelectric wine cooler. The A/C runs almost 24/7 already, and it's not even hot yet.

shouldnt everything be ok if you RH is between 60 and 65 ?

kuzi- I'm not positive and would like clarification as well, but i think if the temp is high enough, beetles can become a threat regardless of the rh...im having trouble keeping mine below 75 deg. as well but they seem to be holding ok at 73ish

Here in SW PA I've seen my humi rise a point or two over the past week. up to 67% this morning. I strive to keep temp down under 72F all the time. Downstairs in the bar it works great.

Yes, no matter what the RH, temp is a concern over 72F.

Since water expands when frozen I wouldn't fill them up before doing so, maybe try some that are half empty. Let us know how that goes if you try it.

Gary, I've been keeping my AC at about 73 which has kept my humidors at about 69-73. I've been keeping my RH at 60-65%. So far my cigars have been smoking fine. I keep mine in the living room. If you have a two story house, and your bedroom is upstairs then the temperature will be higher since heat rises. Try to store them as low to ground level as you can.

Thanks for all the info. Its actually cooler upstairs than down. I've been keeping my A/C at 72 and running it all day in my room. The humis are hanging 73-75deg. My rh is holding great at 60 to 64% and my cigars are smoking great. I'll just have to keep an eye on things. I may try the frozen water pillow thing when it gets really hot.
