I am new to smoking cigars and was wondering what would be the best cigar(s) for a first order. I have read up a little on the forums, and I am not sure if I want mild, medium, or full. Should I stick with mild?

Start mild and work your way up. Dont want to start out to strong and end up not smoking at all.

First of all welcome to the forum Mr. Texan, I think you will enjoy it here.

If you take a look at some past threads, you will find different debates and discussions about the wonderfull topic we call cigars, and then you can make a better decision about what to order.

That said, hook up with Donny or one of the boys at Cigar.com, and they will help you out a lot. My first plug is for the CAO line - Brazilia, Italia, Gold, or Black, you won't go wrong with any of those.

Others on the forum will then say digar.com label - the quality is high, but the price is not.

Once you have got your humi - you will need one - and your first oder put to bed, PM me and you can then send the initiation 3 cigars for me to try for you.

There you go brother!! Have Fun!

I too am a fellow Texan. I just started smoking 3 whole weeks ago. When you order your humidor get one that will hold at least 125 sticks. Because you will have that many lol.

My favorite smoke has been the Hemingway signature, Camaroon wrapper. It is a mild smoke, but has a lot of coffee and spice flavor to it. The perfecto shape is very easy to light. I have not tried any of the CC labels, but I plan on ordering some of thier cuban label smokes soon.

Just keep listening to these guys here because they are:

1. Knowledgable
2. Polite, i.e. won't make you feel like a doofus for asking a question.
3. You get a very wide range of opinions. From starting cigar noobs like you and me. To guys that have 30 years or more xp smoking cigars.

I have ordered a variety of sticks. Ranging from the God of Fire and Opus X's to Olivia's and Aurora's. Rocky Patel as well. The thing is the only way to find out what you like to smoke is to, well, smoke a lot of different varieties.

Cutter

Cigar.com has a sampler of the five different varieties that they sell under the CC name, if I am correct it's relatively cheap. I can't think of a better way to go about sampling a few different cigars for a low cost.

Definitely get a humidor, my advice is to think of a size you feel that may never fill then go about 100ct higher, if you are like me you'll find that serious cigar collecting gets out of hand pretty quick, not that it's a bad thing.

Another welcome from anotrer Texas guy - could this be a trend? Maybe we could all meet up someplace and have a beer and a smoke. As far as what to smoke, I too, think the Cigar.com Mixed Sampler would be a good place to start. It will give you some idea of what type of smoke you might like (mild - medium - full.) This is a great forum and a fun place to hang out.

Here is what you need to know…

Also, cutter is right regarding his talking points, and as far as one item goes, I'm the only doofus here, so no one else EVER need feel like one!!! I'm sort of the Official Doofus Absorbent. I embody all the aspects of a doofus, and by force of "gravity," so to speak, draw all scattered particulate matter toward me, so that way, all the members are automatically clean.

It's true - Bloof is a world-renowned, board-certified, doctor-approved (4 out of 5 doctors agree and no one can find the body of the fifth one) doofus! He's studied long and hard just so you don't have to - his intensely focused absent-mindedness would be a burden if it weren't such an asset. He will never lead you wrong, though you may not know where you are when you finally get there. To quote Jimmy Buffett, he's "got a school boy heart, a novelist eye, Stout sailor's legs and a license to fly."

welcome
The sampler packs and 5 packs are a great way to learn what you like. Having a variety on hand comes in handy when you start trading and playing PIF and Box pass.
Your humidor..the guys are right, buy BIG right away. I bought a 50ct to start with, filled it in 3 weeks. Then I bought a 150ct. Its filled too. Now I'm saving for the 1200ct cabnet.
Cusano makes reat cigars, mild to full bodied. I love the 1997 corojo. The Onyx mini-belicoso and the Rocky Patel REO are my favorite maduros. The Rocky Patel Edge corojo is great too. These are all medium cigars. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum, RichTexan! I would recommend as a new cigar smoker, that your first order/s be from the sampler list. C.com has put together some great samplers that will let you try out several great brands and different tobacco blends of cigars, without having to buy a box of something. Take a look at the 90rated sampler, Robusto sampler, cigar.com sampler...all great deals. You can also jump in on the trades and PIF threads...not only will it allow everyone to get to know you better, but you will also get to sample some of other peoples' favorite cigars...
Welcome!
~S

P.S. Get as BIG a humidor as you can possibly afford/get away with

Welcome to the zoo, dont feed the animals ! , & if you do watch the tips of your fingers & rings, they might just disapear ! hahaha, enjoy Vince

+1 for what Bikeman said:"That said, hook up with Donny or one of the boys at Cigar.com, and they will help you out a lot. "

Check out the Friday One Time Deals at Cigar.com, they are posted here by Alex to give us a head start. Call Donny and he will tell you about the cigars and if they sound good order them. I'm sure he will send a sample or two for you to try of some other sticks. 8)

Friday Deals are always a good thing. And a recomendation that i know you wont be disappointed in is the Cigar.com purple label

cigars international sells samplers by strength. other places to get samplers include holts and jr cigars.

if you're just starting out, brand samplers, mixed samplers and 5 packs are a good way to try a lot of different smokes without breaking the bank.

Thanks everyone for all your responses... I ordered this weekend three different sampler packs and a decent size humidor. I will be posting my likes and dislikes as I smoke my cigars.. In addition I bought a the 5 pack of the 5 vegas series.

Thanks again for the warm welcome to the forum, I look forward to hanging aroung for a while.
