Christmas One Day Deal

i had a cigar from the cigar of the month club that didnt make it through shipping, thats the only one though. i think i had another single that got banged up a little but thats all. then there is the box of diplomas with cracked feet, but that happend after they sat in my humidor for a while.

Ahh diplomas. Those babies have a temper. As soon as mine arrive I have to sort out the ones that have damage.

Just go to any supermarket. Go to the baking/canning section and get a package of Certo. If they don't have that they should have generic liquid pectin. You just brush that on or you can do what I did: I went to Home Depot and got a touch up paint applicator and put it in there. The paint applicator is a little foam pad attached to a small plastic bottle. Just sqeeze the bottle and the pectin will come out onto the pad.

That's even better. Thanks for the suggestion, quagmire. Sounds more natural.

yea, gonna have to add that to my list of things to do tomorow.

I actaully haven't had any issue with cigars from cigar.com. This last package I had delivered to work so it did not sit out in the 28degree weather.

In Canada we can specify when we ship that we do not want the package left on the doorstep when we are not home. What it means is that you will have to go to the nearest Post Office (where it will be kept nice and warm) an you then have to go and pick it up.

I do not know if this option is available to you in the States, but hey the customer comes first, and if that is the service that you want, that is the service you should get. Both the PO's in the US and in Canada firmly follow that credo, because they know if they don't give you the service you want, you will go somewhere else!

The UPS guys should not be leaving valuable packages on the front porch. My guy knows me ( I used to ship a lot of computer parts), and he knows that if I am not home he just doesn't leave it!

I hope this helps!

Quag, your idea is brilliant, I always knew you were more than just a pretty face!

With UPS, it depends on the driver/area. In Norfolk, VA where I live, they never leave the package if I'm not there, but in TN where my parents live, they always live the package if no one's home, even if the box says "Signature Required" on it .

I would be bringing that issue up with the local office. UPS corp policy is that parcels are attempted 3 times before being left at the depot. If they are leaving exposed packages in plain sight, that is simply wrong. I know this stuff because I am a postie, and two good friends are UPS drivers.

I HATE when my UPS driver does NOT leave my packages! I am NEVER EVER home during the day, and seeing that little yellow sticker on my front door drives me insane. If I'm not home during business hours, how in the name of all that's holy can I GO TO THEIR OFFICE during normal business hours.

Just leave the darn thing on the porch so when I get home it's there.

(I know form reading above, I'm in the minority. :) )

It's okay Ronn, I am sure you are used to being in the minority.

Our depot here is open till nine o'clock, what time does yours close?

back in my old neigborhood they dont leave anything, even with signature release. too many packages getting stolen. here ups leaves anything that doesnt require a signature.

Here at my house it got to the point that I had to call UPS and yell at them to ring the bell when they deliver something. I mean, the driver takes the time to get off his lazy ass to walk the package up to my front door...the very least he could do is ring the bell.
I've had packages sitting in the sun for several hours before I noticed they were outside my door. What finally caused me to rip them a new one was the fact that a delivery of Forbidden X's grew legs and walked away from my house.
Needless to say I don't do the whole UPS thing anymore if I can help it.

I know exactly what you mean. FedEx won't leave packages unless you tell them to. Only thing is, everytime I told them to they apparently forgot. That was until the Box/Picture Pass package got held in their 100 degree warehouse and I yelled at the punk bicycle messenger reject-lookin' guy at the store. Now I don't have any problems.

Awww, shucks... Everything I do in life has to be ultra complicated so whenever I make something I end up searching all over for parts that were never meant to go together but do in a weird Rube Goldberg sort of way. Kind of like how today I spent six+ hours soldering wires and an old transformer to my Christmas village lights because the batteries kept dying.

That Certo thing was one of those things but fortuneately it was just an "aha!!" type thought in my head.

I know exactly what you mean. I have saved the old bathroom fan from our renovation, I am going to put it up in my garden shed/smoking lounge this summer so that I can get a cool breeze in there and suck out all the smoke. It just makes a project worth while if you can do it in the most difficult way possible!

Good idea. Do you have a heater in there too for the winter? My next big project is to put a large wall heater and exaust fan in my workshop for that exact purpose. I can deal with the cold working out there but it just ruins the smoking experience.

I dropped all the hints I could about a heater, but I guess Santa just wasn't listening! I guess I will have to buy it for myself. I've got one all picked out, and I have the cord to do it with, there has just been no time!
