Getting started with your own humidor can be a very exciting time. I can remember my first order from cigar.com. Here is what i would suggest to get started with good storage....
Southport Small Humidor Cherry, about halfway down the page...will give you storage for 40 - 50 cigars as you sample your way to your favorite smokes that you can buy in bulk later.
To humidify your humidor, I highly suggest using the
Cigar.com Humi-Care Jar with the Cigar.com 50/50 Humidifying Solution 8 oz Bottle. These will ensure the proper humidity inside your humidor at all times, and help fight mold.
Make sure you season your humidor b4 you put any smokes in it of course, or it will suck the moister out of your smokes. I personally use a paper towel and dampen it with the 50/50 solution, and wipe the interior of the humidor clean. This serves two purposes. One, it will clean your humidor of any wood dust and other dust from manufacturing, and two, if you repeat this twice a day, within about 3 days, your humidor will be ready. Do not soak it wet...but you should see some color change as it becomes dampened. Keep the Cigar Jar in it, as well as your dividers (wipe them too), and you will see that after about 3 days, your humidity will stabilize in it.
Store your smokes in the cellophane if you plan to wait to smoke them at a later day, or if you want to "ready" your smokes for some time later in the week...I suggest you take the cellophane off...but this is really a personal preference, some will disagree with the above and always leave the cello on...but i actually keep two desktop humidors, one for "resting" new cigars where the cellophane is still on, and one for cigars I pull out of my
coolerdor for smoking within the next couple of days, in which case I take the cellophane off. And oh boy...opening that humidor and breathing deep is just wonderful.
If you can afford to spring for it...I suggest the
Prometheus Digital Hygrometer/Thermometer on that same page....it really makes temp and humidity measurement a breeze, and comes with a magnet or velcro. If not...make sure you calibrate your analog hygrometer before you put any velcro on it.
Hope this helps and welcome to the Forums!!
