Mid west sit down, June 2006

Sorry Wolf, thats a once in a life time gift. Altough, if you quit buying those expensive island cigars, you could save enough.

Capt,

What time are we wanting to meet in Bedford on Saturday? Is central IN on EST or CST now? Their no time zone thing confuses the hell out of me. I am going to try to leave chicago at 7am so as long as time zones are the same I will roll into Bedford around noon and we can be at the range by 1 or 130 after getting settled.

Right now, Indiana is the same time as New York, Ohio, Michigan and half of Kentucky.
We are are a hour ahead of Illinois.

If you are confused now, wait until next year. There were I think seventeen counties that wanted to be the same time as Illinois, some of these counties were almost in the middle of the state :?

Capt...I'm Definately down, If im still in the midwest anyway!

That would be a great time.....

Especially if you will be cooking!!

:D :D

The XD is a dao right? Do you think that detracts from the pistol? I'm shopping around for a new handgun and was looking at the XD but have never shot a dao pistol.

Yes, they are DAO.The XD's were designed more for conceal carry and self defense.
Now, Im not real pistol savy, but if Im correct, SAO must have a hammer correct? Having a hammer would add to the weight and profile of the firearm therefore taking away from the XD Subcompact's design. People asked for a smaller version of the XD for this purpose, so they made the 3in subcompact with the polymer frame.

If looking for a CC pistol, I definatly recommend the XD Subcompact .40 with the tritrium night sights. H3 is awesome stuff, not to mention sounds neat, and makes me feel special knowing I own something that has materials on it regulated by the ARC haha.

Well, thats what I use it for, as well as defensive pistol shooting classes. Im not 21 yet, so Im really not supposed to even own it(present from dad) for another 2 years. The 3in barrel is a little short, but its definatly an accurate pistol. If you are looking more for recreational shooter with higher accuracy, but still a smaller pistol, I would look at the Springfield Armory 1911 Ultra-Compact(.45ACP). The stock barrel is wonderful, and then adding a $30 match-grade barrel makes the experience even more fun:) There are also TONS of upgrades to the pistol as well. Its a heavier pistol as well, which helps out the wrists when going out for a days shooting. My dad owns the 1911 Ultra-Compact, and I must say, I enjoy shooting it more than my XD.

Sorry to thread jack your threadjack Syntax, But I am looking at the weekend of the 10th. I have spoke with a couple of you and this seems to be a good date. PM me and let me know if you're interested and if this date will work. Also let me know I you are bringing significant other.

Capt, I think you all should make a road trip out of it, and come to Virginia! Bring the stix and food.

Whatcha' think?

:D :D :D

Sorry to continue the thread jack, but I had to jump in here - the XD is neither DAO or SAO. It is something a little different. It is similar to the Glock, except that the striker in the Glock is only partially cocked. Pulling the trigger on the Glock fully cocks and releases the striker. The XD, on the other hand, has a fully cocked striker. All the trigger does is release it. So, it is much closer to single action. Needless to say, I love mine and use it for my daily carry piece.

And I'll definitely be bringing it with me to the sitdown!

Springfield labels it as a DAO...

Sounds good - instead of continuing this thread jack, let's just agree to disagree. Anyone can hit google and get more information than we could supply in this forum.

You have to admit though, that no matter what type of action it is, the XD is one fun gun to shoot!

And, in June, I'll bring the Ruger 10/22 Race Rifle that I won in the Amback giveaway! Thanks again Amback! (For photos, see the giveaway sticky thread in the Rimfire forum).

I gotta fly to Dallas at the end of June, and PA in the beginning of July. I wonder if I convince my wife that I have to fly out again at the beginning of June.....mmm.

"Of course it's for business honey...heh....uh...uh... I mean, what do you think; that I would go out there just to get together with friends and smoke cigars?!? Gee wiz, honey."

Haha - that's exactly what you need to say!

Fortunately, it's only about a 4 hour drive or so from Pittsburgh. I'm used to doing the 9 hour drive up to Empire MI, so Detroit should be a walk in the park!

Plus, my wife will come too - so I have to tell her the real reason for the trip...

LOL! I'm desperately searching for a legitimate business reason for coming. My partner would probably have to come too, and we could conceivably find a justification for coming.
Now, I gotta convince the accountant!

Jim Thorpe, at the Skirmish paintball park. I run a company that conducts professional paintball training camps all over the US, and Skirmish is the largest park in the world. We hold an annual camp there for a week and then participate in their "D Day" battle with 3000 other screaming paintball fanatics.

I'm searching for a park or field near MI that I can "convince" my wife and partner I need to go "scout".

:D :D :D

Ive played at Skirmish in a tournament a couple of years ago when I was playing in the NPPL. I miss it horribly, but it was just way too expensive, even with sponsors.
