Guys,

This press release just made its way over to me. I have permission to post it and it is a press release intended for distribution.

The Illinois legislature is considering a bill that would amend The Illinois Clean Indoor Air Act. HB 4338 was reassigned January 31st from the House Rules Committee to the Committee on Health Care Availability and Access. A hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday February 7, at 4:00 pm in Room 118 of the Illinois State Capitol Building in Springfield

As introduced, HB 4338 would include bars, taverns and bowling alleys in the definition of public places statewide. All public places would be mandated to fully comply with the Illinois Clean Indoor Air Act within two years. The bill also prohibits smoking within 15 feet of any entrance to a public place.

CALL THE IL SENATOR OR CONGRESSMAN IN YOUR AREA AND TELL THEM NOT TO CONSIDER THIS.

STOP THE MADNESS!!! I have a friend who was just over in Ireland a few months ago. He said that they have a similar smoking ban that is nation wide. He said that when you go into a bar there are hardly any people there at all.... then you go out the back door, and they have tents set up and everyone is out there...they have a band, a bar set up and everything in the back lot...How stupid is a law like that? Well, it looks like a lot of us just might find out before this is over :?

which leads me to my next question. Who the hell votes on these things. Certainly not the people that actually go to the bars.

Each bar, bowling alley, social club or wherever the bans will take effect should have a petition and have all the patrons sign it and send it into the people taht do vote

SHOW UP AND VOTE.

That's the way it is here, and it sucks, we have to go outside to smoke, certain distance from doors, the whole spiel.

the Government had some thing on the books a little bit ago, called the Volstead act I think we all know it as Prohibition, NO BOOZE ! it didnt last long, the Mafia made Millions , that is when Joe Kennedy made all his money, by bringing in Whisky from Back home in Ireland ,"You cannot legeslate Morality"
Enjoy, Vince

Like Doc-T said........Welcome to California. Here they are looking into a ban on smoking in your own truck or car or whatever. I mean it's madness! In California, it doesn't matter what the people vote for anyway, they just find some nut case Judge to overturn the vote and tie it up in the courts. I mean even the Goober ( Arnie ) has been attacked for smoking at the capitol.

FYI, the following states also have state wide bans on the table as of recently and are still in discussion:

Illinois
Maryland
New Hampshire
Colorado
Utah

I heard the Govenator built a special little smoke shack in the back of the mansion. All on taxpayers money. Is this true? And if it is can he smoke there since it would be a government building?

The Governator HAD a smoke tent, but it was soon to be found against the law, as it was surrounded by a 3-wall perimeter. Can't smoke in an area enclosed by 3 walls (like a courtyard in a U-shape area). Man, even Arnie can't smoke a cigar without firing up an anti-smoker! I believe he took down the smoke tent since then.

pretty soon cigarettes will be against the law, cigars will soon follow and people will continue to buy and smoke, just like weed. ive given up on laws, they have never been for the people, only for the people with money and that aint me.

So this would end Chicago's exemption to restaurants and bars with ventilation systems as well? That would really piss me off if I just spent the money on one of those.

IMHO, after people get fed up with living in this political tyranny, all this will be a thing of the past. As we speak, the senate is considering the legality of Bush's wiretapping practices so this seems to be underway. Even still, I firmly believe state governments should have limited control and only in certain areas. County and township goverments should really be the ones making decisions (with voter approval of course).

if you cant smoke in a 3 wall building why dont u build a one wall building like a circle and BANG you just found a loophole in the law and can smoke legally!

I am usually a right winger (old school, not the neo conservative stuff) but this year I think I am voting Liberatarian. Screw politacal agenda, it is time to give some of the power and freedoms back to the people.

Careful. This is probably monitored, too.
