I dont know if you guys have heard about it but i have recently become a victim of the U-WEBTEMPLATE exam. Being as that i only use my card on three different places online ( cigar.com, cigarbid.com and paypal) i figured it would be a good idea to let you guys know about it. I check my bank account online today and found that i had been charged 9.95 and this was what was in the description line (U-WEBTEMPLATE 6104107204 PA). I hate scammers and theifs these people really need to pray that i dont ever find them. :biggun: :m16: :2guns: :uzi: :tomcat: :throwrock: :rnr: :soldier: :argh: :fire:  :samurai:

After googling the company name i found this link.

http://www.robertkbrown.com/2006/04/29/ ... plate.html

That link is basically a forum where victims have posted details.

is this for real? that happend to you? can the bank stop it? I know an old guy who has sent all of his life savings western union to some one who keeps telling him he has won some contest. its very sad :(

I haven't gotten this but did get one frome free credit report. Its kind of my fault for using the number but they make it impossible to cancel before you're billed. They have something like 12 different business aliases and fraud reports galore.

If you want a credit report, don t use these these people. Got through the government or your credit card company.

thx for the warning. i noticed this yesterday i was charged 9.95 by webtemplates. this is totally a scam. already called the bank cancelled the card and getting the number changed. usually the only thing i use it online for is cigars usually at cigarbid.com i ordered from them on monday and then this showed up. makes me wonder how secure that site is?

How is being initiated? Order something online, and Webtemplate gets a hold of your CC# and make the $9.95 charge? Or is it just spontaneous identity theft?

Thanks for the post, teddy.

I checked my bank account and I too was charged by "U-WEBTEMPLATE 6104107204 PA" $9.95 on 5/10/06.

I just came back from my bank to contest it. :argh:

I got hit too - didn't say webtemplates, said:
ON-X INC - 612-216-1257 MN
and was for 9.95

Started dispute procedures with the CC company

I just did a quick lookup on this scam and found two very good sources of information:

antivirus.about.com check out internet fraud

robertkbrown.com check out digital age fraud (2005) &
U-WEBTEMPLATE threads. I am not associated with either of these ventures, just wanted to pass on the information.

Sorry, did not notice the link in the original posting, left mine in for the digital age information. Paul

Not yet, but it looks like the same scam as the webtemplates one. I'll let you know if I find anything out. Like fire mission coordinates for their HQ or if the firing squad has any open slots.

crapweasel!

I got hit too.

Just got off the phone with my CC CSR to dispute the charge. I also asked if anyone else called about it, and the CSR said she had 3 calls so far about U-Webtemplate.

How the heck is Uweb getting our account numbers?!

Argh! I've got that too. I think Cigar.com has a leak.
I think it's time to pick up the phone.

i haveonly had the cotm charges this month along with c-bid. i would say it is probally one of the two or cigar int who i also used.

Ok, I've got some more info. I just got off the phone with Citibank, and they said my account number was involved in the Cardsystems (a credit card payment processing company) security breach.
Apparently this happened some time ago though- June 2005. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 01031.html

Considering that it's hitting c.com customers now (anyone with this charge never ordered from c.com?) I have to wonder if this has anything to do with the Cardsystems breach.
OTOH, the Cardsystems breach did involve over 40 million credit cards, so it's quite possible this has nothing to do with cigar.com.

At any rate, my card has been canceled and they're overnighting a new one with a new card number to me. I should have it on Thursday.

yeah, they got me to. my bank says i have to call there and ask them why and how they got my info. called and got full mailbox. i hope they get caught. i cancelled my card, and now I'll have to change all my stuff. i hope they didn't get any thing else on us.

Cardsystems had some very sloppy security; after the breech Visa and Amex stopped using them which forced the sale of cardsystems. If you hit this you will see that http://www.cardsystems.com/ has indeed been acquired.

These financial institutions have a fiduciary responsibility to protect this information. I think the officers of this company should get a righteous caning (like they did to the graffiti vandal in Singapore) for this: Card Systems Data Left Unsecured

There have been several other breaches in security as well. Point of sale systems often leave both account numbers and pins in system memory and a lot of the systems were on the net where they could be hacked. I was going to call my bank about this one when I got a new ATM card without even asking.

It is clever of the thieves to stay under the radar with the small charge of $9.95. Charges that small are ignored or overlooked by many. People who travel on business may never even see the card statements and used the card so many times they they don't remember every small charge.

I have the same thing on my bank staement. I'll have to call them today. Let find out who these guys are and make sure they get busted. I hope I can get an adress to go goodfellas on their @$$e$.

wow im glad i posted about this i had no idea that they would have gotten this many people. I actually thought that it was paypal that my info was released through, but now that i think of it i i bought something from cigarbid that got charged on monday. I cant stand a damn theif. i was so irate yesterday i even sent in a email to CNN to see if they had any information on it.

I had to wait to let the charges for my girls bday presents pass before i send for my new card.

The main reason i even found the charge was due to the fact that i got an email from bank of america informing me that my account had been blocked. I thought this was wierd being as that ive never had a BofA bank account. I hope the guys go down hard and get bubba for a cell mate.
