on the grass
today i went to a smoke shop that i usually dont go to.

they had a good selection.

I had my mind set that i NEEDED a Hoyo De Monterrey Dark Sumatra. I go and look for it. I find the Hoyo section. they had everything BUT the dark sumatra.

I go out to ask. The "tobaccanist" looks to be about my age (25-26 ish) He says they have them but I "have no idea what they look like" So I desctibe them:
Dark reddish brown wrapper, cedar sleave, black box, gold band, says "hoyo de monterrey" and "dark sumatra" on em

I even told him about the filler and binder. (honduran, dominican and Connecticut Broadleaf respctivly)

all he said was "no"

then handed me the cigar that i JUST DESCRIBED to him. this is the cigar you are looking for.

what did i learn? I need to order from cigar.com more often.

Im SURE that i know more about cigars than that guy did. Does anyone else feel that way about some of their local shop owners?
Nothing worse than being talked down to.

Customer service is laking in general these days. I've had similar experiences in music/book/instrument/computer/electronics/etc stores. And other stores where the staff is much better. If the staff is bad but the selection/prices are good, I ensure that I know what I want prior to going. If the staff is good, I can go in more open.

It depends on who is there when I go. There is a guy who owns and runs the one here in Tuscaloosa, AL, but his daughter runs it on the weekends. She is good on remembering the prices, but for the most part knows jack about cigars. Not that i am an expert or anything. The man that runs it is very knowledgeable and knows more than me at least. On his end great customer service and knowledge, but on her end good customer service, but know before hand what you want.

I have a local shop I go to where I get good service, and they seem to always have tha rare cigar I'm looking for. I've been to others where I've had the same experiences as Kuzi. Needless to say, I only go to one local shop now.

I actually got into cigars partly because of a very helpful sales person. I wound up at a place on my 37th birthday and being relatively new to cigars I asked some pretty amateur questions. Instead of dismissing me, the guy took me seriously and answered all of them. I bought a few sticks and he offered me a clip and a light. They are a little more expensive, but I've gotten good advice everytime I've been in there, and the rest is history.

OR you can come to da Burgh & I will be glad to get you what ever you want , I might talk down to you ( depends on how tall you are,) like my father always talked down to me , he was 6'10"
I am just 6'2", we have a few new young guys & gals working at the shop BUT they are all smoking there way through the humidors ( we have 2 walk ins Now ) ran out of room in the first one ! , so depending on the time of day & the day of the week, you might get some one who has some what of an idea, & I am just a phone call away & can direct the help from the phone if need be , But so far I havent had a problem I can fix with what stock we have other than the few who stop in for rolling papers & other BS , dont got them, , dont want them in the shop, you cant smoke them in here so I dont sell them, I dont care how much revenue I loose , , as soon as I start with the rolling papers I will get the dope smokers & I dont want them in here ....... Enjoy, Vince
