I need new brakes..... :? :banghead:

they just started grinding...no squeaking....just grinding....damn

Thor, its possible that that grinding is simply due to having extremely low pad wear, and if that is the case and if you caught it early enough, you may not have done any damage to the rotor/caliper...which also means if its just pads its a much cheaper, easier fix...

does it only "grind" when you apply the brakes or at all times?

very true, depending on the vehicle its really just a matter of having the right tools (as it usually always is with anything)

i've got a 03 audi a4 and i have a set of porsche calipers/rotors/pads/new caliper carrier brackets, that are going on but probably wont get to it till the spring, just dont have the time or tools right now...

Easy fix if you havent ground into the rotar. Make sure when you replace them or have them replaced that the new pads come with squeelers so you'll know when they need to be replaced.

Let me know if you need a special tool to do the brakes on that thing..
I had a New Jetta, and I went and bought the tool that turns and screws the piston back into the caliper when I did the vented/ slotted rotor and new pads thing. It's a peculiar tool for VW, and I know that since VW and Audi are like kissin' cousins, you just may need it too....

Failure to protect hearing = bad brake jobs.

As a result of having shot out the higher end of my hearing, replacing it with a big dose of tinnitus, I can't hear the squealers. Cost me some expensive brake jobs until I made the connection ... and trained the wife to let me know if she hears them.

I've got hearing aids now, but I've got to remind her to report the squeals ... don't want to trust my hearing aids that much.

BigMike ---

What type Hearing Aids did you get??? I can tell you from experience that none of them help a lick with the Tinnitus!!! I have had it from the time I was about 5 and it is very bad in my case.

The one thing that can help is changing your diet and getting good sleep at night ---- and there is a company that makes a homeopathic medicine sold by EAR as "Ring Stop". I tried it, but in my case it did not help much at all, but in some cases it has been known to help.

As I write this, my tinnitus is SEVERE as I only had 2.5 hrs sleep this morning.

Hearing Aids

Phonak Behind-The-Ear.

AFAIK nothing stops tinnitus. You just have to get aids that talk louder.

My aids are high-end technology. At the moment. Moore's Law applies to hearing aids, too.

I chose BTE because it is cheaper than in-the-ear of the same technology level, my audiologist recommended BTE because of my hearing frequency profile. Imagine a side view of Niagra Falls.

Mike, I don't know _where_ you are in WV. If you are in reasonable driving distance from Harrisonburg, VA, let me know and I'll PM you about my audiologist, & why to use her instead of highly advertised competition.

BM--

Thanks for the offer --- 1) Harrisonburg is not an EASY drive from here -- mountains get int the WAY.

I switched over to Behind the Ear hearing aids over a year ago. The in the canal ones drove me CRAZY! I have Beltone BTE with digital technology and 2 microphones. They even have cut-out provisions if the decible level gets to high. I have between 55-60% loss on any frequency above 60hs (I believe). Low tones I hear, it is the mid-range (voice) and high level where my loss is severe. I remember when I got my first hearing aid, I heard air coming out of an air conditioning vent for the first time in my life (we did not have A/C when I was a small child and damaged my hearing)

yeah, thats the tool you need, you can do it w/o it apparantly but it makes life a lot easier with it, especially for the rears...

im putting porsche calipers for the 996 on it with vented floating rotors, ill probably wait till spring to through em on but if i cant find someone local with that tool ill let ya know
