Okay, I have been on an NC kick lately - trying to see if I can bring back some sanity in my life.

I smoked a CAO America on the golf course today (yeah, shocker - I was on a golf course.) I really liked that smoke. Great draw, billowy smoke. Medium body - really cool looking wrapper. That was probably the only problem - the wrapper. It is a barber pole kind of wrapper and it kept coming a bit undone. Not enough to make it a smoking problem though. It was a bit larger than a robusto which took me about an hour and 15 minutes to smoke. I have a larger one hidden in my humidor. I plan to smoke it one day soon and do a review.

Overall I would add these to my humidor (depending on the price as both were gifted to me!)

I have had two so far, both the 6x60 size I think. I found them very enjoyable as well but I had no wrapper issues. I also recomend them for a good med bodied creamy smoke.

I have had one, I know that is not enough to base an opinion, but I will probably not smoke another one. I can think of many NC that offer the same type of stick (smooth, creamy med. body) for less money and a better product.
I have all but given up on CAO!

I will try the LX2 though. I think that one might be right up my alley....or knock me in the face.

Yes, but will you find one with a nicer band? Huh, answer me that? Do you have something against America? Well, I'm not going to sit here and take you insulting my country!

LOL - sorry Connor - not enough coffee yet this morning.

After smoking several NC's that I have not liked lately - I was happy to find one that I enjoyed the flavor with.

Connor have you tried the CAO Cameroon? I am not a big CAO guy but I do like those alot. If you haven't I would try one, and if you haven't I wish I knew before I sent you PIF. I must agree that when they first came out the Americas price was being inflated. I snagged a couple off the evil site so I got a good deal.

Ok, I typed a long response, but somehow managed to delete it. In summery, It went like this:

Kevin, you are a Communist.

Tom, Yes I have had the Cameroon

I will probably try the American again, put would rather smoke an Olar or a Taboo Twist if I want a creamy thick sweet smoke.

I am a big fan of the CAO MX2 and the Black. I have heard the black has gone down hill over the last few years, but I still have some that i purchased 3 years ago that are wonderful

I have smoked multiples of all the CAO brands with the exception of the Soprano's. I refuse to pay $12 for a $6 stick with a $6 marketing mark up. I will NEVER smoke another Vision.

I usually have problems with barber-pole style cigars (Sol Cubano Artisan, Gurkha Grand Master Dos Capas, CAO America) at the golf course too. I think it's the heat/humidity-related issues on the course than anything else which causes the wrapper to become undone. Either that or the cigar just wants more attention from you instead of the golf course.

I haven't seen them in B&M's yet but I really haven't been looking too hard. If I do find them, I'll pich up a few to try.

Nice to see you posting again, kuzi!!

I never fail to be amazed at the disparity that exists regarding the opinions of those who have tried CAO cigars.

Briefly, the CAO Brazilia is too strong for me, even with some aging. I love the CAO Cameroon, but haven't had one in years, don't know if the the blend has changed. I love the one's I've had, though. The CAO Gold is an all-time favorite, but again, haven't had one in years. Definitely would love to have any sort of barber pole cigar, don't think I've ever had one, and NO, that's not a hint, hee, hee, heee!!!

Anyway, I've been getting the CI catalog, and I'm getting back some money from an attorney in Florida, because my post losing my home financial matters aren't settled yet, but instead of one path I'm taking another. And with the money coming back from the attorney down South, I know that I'll be able to divert some money toward cigars. I know I've been saying that for a long time, but this time it's for real.

Not to mention, the people here and elsewhere I owe. There'll be a few boxes getting shipped here, and a lot of boxes going out, ha, haaaaa!!! I should open up a branch of the Post Office. No, I don't sell money orders, I only ship cigars. I'm the Cigar Division of the local P.O. They outsourced it to me. You bring in 20 cigars to ship to a friend, I get to keep one out of every five. You bring 20, I send 16. You bring in five boxes, four get shipped, seee?!?!?!!????

Yeah, right. Anyway, I get a lot of suggestions from folks here. The Cusano 18's that I've had are nice, but they age quickly. The last one I had was a little light on flavor, and I've had them about two years now, maybe a little less.

Okay, CAO America. If it's got an American flag on it, I'll try anything once, especially since I like CAO. Funny thing, you either love 'em or hate 'em. And THAT Gertrude, is what makes the world go round.

Hey, didja hear, Bill Curtis found the internet!!!

You are so right. There are many cigars and many opinions about cigars, but from my experience on this board and others, CAO seems to have the largest disparity in people who love it and people who hate it. There are not many people who fall in between on this brand.

I try to keep my feelings for the CAO brand to myself

For the most part, the CAO cigars that I have smoked have been excellent.
Intitially the MX2 was my favorite maduro and I still keep a ton of them in my humi. As I was finding out what I liked in cigars, I smoked a CX2 and instantly fell in love with Cameroons. From there I branched out and tried many brands with a cameroon wrapper. Some are good, some are not, but for a cameroon, I keep going back to the CX2.

Several months ago at a CAO event, I smoked my first Sopranos. Maybe it was the atmosphere and ambiance of the event but I really liked the Sopranos and in fact keep several of those as well. At the same event, I purchased a box of America Potomacs. I really like these as well and will likely continue to smoke them.

These are the only four CAO's that I smoke regularly and have never had a taste or bad burn/draw issue with any of them. I am excited about the LX2 because I have been smoking LFD Ligeros and really like those.

At any rate, I really like CAO as a brand and won't discount them just yet.

Oh Yeah, I forgot, Barco has put me on a non-habano ban. :?

I am NOT complaining!!!

Con,

Thruthfully, have you ever smoked a bad CAO? Their quality is top notch. Granted, maybe age does them better.

Of coarse, I know how you feel. I feel the same toward Gurkha and RP. They are over marketed and all the discount stores push the heck out of them. I know they both make excellent smokes but I tend to shy away from them.

Are you serious?
The question should be when was the last time I had a good one. The MX2 is a decent smoke. The Vision is rubbish and American is just OK.
You pay 2-3 dollars (5-6 you you get the soprano) more for a CAO to pay for the marketing and the crappy humidor that burns through batteries like Billy Banks does infomercials.

I just do not see the point in buying a "decent" (and that is being generous) CAO when you can get an Aston or a AF Hemingway or a Tat for the same price.

:soap:

That, my friend, is just my opinion, and it should be yours!
