Finding a humidor Questions..

Hey travis - when i went humidor hunting, I went for a lot of glass...You can show off your collection, and when you organize your sticks it can actually look real stunning...

My humidors run on Cigar Oasis....set and forget...i used to use different gels, beads, and humidifiers and found myself constantly playing with the humidity levels....cigar oasis is the way to go.

More over i havent found the glass to be any problems what so ever...the humidor stays at a constant 69%-71% humidity and my cigars seem to be aging well in it...most of them are forming nice amounts of plume :D

also look at the price of the humidor you are looking at...

its a little over $100 for a 75 ct humidor...

consider this one instead...

its a 300 ct humidor...more then double the capacity, and only $70 more.

Your wallet will be thanking you, when you realize you quickly filled up that 75 count and need another humidor...

I'd pay the $70 more now, rather then fork out another $100+ on a second humidor...Less of a hassle on the wallet...and easier to maintain, you can just focus on the RH level on 1 humi, instead of 2 of them....just my $0.02

ohh, forgot to mention...i've learned that lesson from personal experience....i first bought a 50ct, then 2 50 ct...then a 150 ct, and now a 300 ct and a cabinet...i've since gotten rid of the 50 cts (gonzo, you enjoying yours?? :D) and i use the 150 ct for my smoking sticks...that way i can jump into the 150 ct to grab a smoke, and i can leave the 300 count alone as much as possible.

the 300 count in the link is the same one i have. It actually came down in price since i got mine :argh: :argh: :censored:

Lots of good advice so far, I guess my only addition to this would be to buy new or from somebody that you are on good terms with. I would hate for you to get fleeced on ebay by some unscrupulous seller that is making money by selling problem humidors, I do beleive that a while back someone on this site bought a humi from ebay that was a glasstop and ended up with a plexiglass insert instead.

Buyer beware.

good point cloudy....you should also be careful of fake humidors...these humidors are not spanish cedar, instead they are lined with cheaper woods that will actually suck humidity from your cigars and ruin them.

Rule of thumb....you get what you pay for, if you find a GREAT deal on a humidor on ebay...most likely there is something the matter with it, whether it was fake, or poor seal, or whatever.

A good way to test the seal of a humidor is to open the lid then let it drop...the lid should fall to the top of the lip, then as it hits the top of the lip it should almost hold there for a split second and then slowly fall down the rest of the way...When it does that it creates a vaccum and pushes out the excess air. If it just falls and closes, the seal is too loose and ur humidity will escape, if the top stops at the top of the lip and you have to push the top the rest of the way down then your seal is too tight and you might have excessive humidity issues.

Another test is to close the lid on a piece of paper try to pull it out...if the paper pulls out easily then the seal is too loose and bad, if you cant pull it out at all, the seal is too tight...if you are able to pull it out but there is resistance, the seal is perfect.

Wow after reading that last part...goldy locks and the 3 bears popped in my head

I think this is one of the best deals out there. 110 bucks for 300 count. It sounds like you are not planing to keep a lot of cigars on hand this would be a nice humidor. Tmapa sells great products. You can also call them and ask about imperfects. Generally minor blemishes that work perfect.

Definitely listen to these guys as far as buying bigger than you think you need. I started off getting a smaller one, and it just didn't work out. Nothing is more frustrating then having a good Friday deal on Cigar.com or somewhere else come along with some great smokes that you like, really cheap and not being able to get them because you don't have room in your humidor. If you are interested enough to get on here, you WILL buy a bigger one eventually.

I ended up getting this one on C bid for 100 bucks. I like it alot.
