I'm not so sure you did overreact, and by the way, welcome to Amback/Cigar.com. People throw around a lot of poorly worded phrases on the internet, and don't realize that the forum of the written word is a lot more blunt than sitting in a room with someone. It's easy to pop off, but when you've learned from your mistakes, as I have, the HARD way, and have resolved to accept correction, again as I have, because of learning the hard way, then certain reactions are entirely inappropriate.
I believe that the reaction you received was inappropriate. Just because you MAY have SEEMED to pop off was no reason for another poster to react in an authoritative and totally negative way. No one here, as I made sure to point out, INCLUDING me, has any platform to point to how long they've been here and use that to slap another poster down. EVERYONE is welcome, and having 50,000 posts doesn't make anyone anything more than when they walked in, IF they've acted inappropriately.
As for the departed member, I didn't know about that until after 1500 hours (3 p.m. this afternoon), and I'm not sure why, unless something happened in a private conversation with an administrator. I'm not happy that the member is departed, because the member was a frequent contributor, and a part of the fabric of the boards, but so be it.
But as I pointed out, because the behavior fit a certain PROFILE, and I have heard it through the grapevine that there is major trouble on at least one very long lived and famous cigar board, coupled with my own past experiences, I felt it necessary to use the situation as a catalyst to throw out a post about forum conduct. As I stated, the boss wants the AmBack forums to be run as a tighter ship than others, primarily because of our past experiences, and wishing to avoid the deterioration that results when certain conduct is not dealt with immediately.
I have had to learn, time and again, and relearn it here on Amback, since being a Moderator is a whole other ball game, to read and reread my posts before making them, because it's so easy to make inappropriate statements that might pass at a party, but don't work for keeping the peace on the internet.
