I went for my first Pre op appointment yesterday. Went quite well, it was actually a meeting with the Nurse, the Doctor, the fitness guy, the Nutritionist and the program coordinator that lasted from 9 to 2. Most of the information I already knew because of the research. I did start an all liquid diet that is 750 calories to one help lose weight but also shrink the size of the liver.
I was told a few things that I was not thrilled about one is that there is the possibility that I would not get the surgery that I want. Back in 98 early 99 I was diagnosed with cancer. In order to get rid of it i had to have open chest surgery. the Cancer was involved in my Lymph nodes to the point that they had to dissect down to my Aorta to remove all that was involved.
The reason that this affects me is that there may be scar tissue that will complicate things. so First he will try the Laparoscopic approach, if that is not working he will open my abdomen to do the bypass, and if that is still not working he will convert to a Lapband, that is basically a band that goes around the top of the stomach and restricts the food going through. there is a port placed under the skin and it is adjustable by injecting saline or removing saline. For me I feel bypass is a better choice, but I think I still can be successful with the band. I felt the doc thought that he could do the bypass but wanted some flexibility in case it was just not possible.
Just wanted to let you all know what was going on.
