Guys I need help. I'm not sure if I'm inhaling or not. How can you tell. Also can you explain how not to inhale. There's times I draw and it has a great taste. Other times Im like maybe I inhaled. Just not sure.
Thanks,
Jeff

Im no expert yet on cigars but this one I think I can handle...

How not to inhale= puff in with some smoke and hold the smoke in your mouth. Do not breathe while puffing the smoke. Just pull the smoke in and slowly blow it out.

Well, that sounded so clear in my head but now that I read I think I confused myself... Maybe I should go practice. hehe

If it feels like someone poured kerosene down your throat and followed it with a lit match...you just inhaled

Well I think im alright then.

If you suck the smoke into your lungs you are inhaling. More than likely you will know this happened because you will start coughing violently.

awesome... thanks guys. everyone on this board is really help full.

LOL! Yeah, that about sums it up!!!

And it happens at the worst damn time! You got a huge mouthful of a really full bodied cigar and somebody cracks a joke or bumps into you! Hopefully you got a place to sit down real quick!
I just had that happen to my with a Hoyo Dark Sumtra!

Yeah, the sensation of midgets clawing at your throat is not pleasant but somehow it is always amusing to the rest of the group.

Personally - I "often" will draw the smoke in and then press my lips together and breath out a little.
It causes my mouth to puff out - cheaks to puff up.
I beleieve by doing this the smoke filles all your taste centers and you
get all the flavors of the cigar.
If you do this the smoke is not going into your lungs!

CC, I've been working on trying to get some smoke up thru my nostrils to try and find some of the more subtle tastes that you guys are always talking about. That is when I usually get a small amout of smoke inhaled. That's why I'm not trying too often.
Is there a technique to use there. I'm a big smoke volume kinda guy.

I used to have a hard time blowing smoke through my nose. Currently I draw it into my mouth and kind of swallow it so it gets the back of my throat and then I exhale.

I do the same thing CC. It really does help to get a good feel for the flavor of the cigar.

I tried blowing out through the nose off CC's advise. I'm glad I was sitting down when I did it. I did get more of a flavor, that flavor was burning.

Ahhh well, maybe it's just not for me.

Yeah - it takes practise!
I only do this with the very finest cigars - but there are others that
do this all the time!

I've been doing the smoke thru the nose thing off and on. Too much definitely burns. AS I blow the smoke out my mouth I'll try to put the last little bit thru the nose. Doesn't burn and certainly enhances the flavor.

Brothers,
Exhaling through the nose is called French inhaling. Inhailing cigar smoke is considered bad etiquette in most cigar circles; plus it will probably give you black Lung or some other hidious afliction. You know that you are inhaling when you feel like your lungs are going to collapse and that you are about to pass out cold.
Because of the way Cigar tobacco is fermented it contains very little nicotine. Cigars are smoked for the enjoyment of the experience, whereas cigarettes are nothing more than a nicotine dilivery device. I've never heard a cigarette smoker say "I just smoke them for the taste"

french inhaling is inhaling the smoke through your nose from your mouth. thats not the same thing as exhaling from your nose.

When I used to smoke, I inhaled, be it cigerettes, pipes or cigars. If you don't inhale, why bother?
