Humi beads?

In the past they have locked people's accounts for no reason, not allowing them to access their own money, letting it just sit there with no interest paid. Then charging the people money to unlock their accounts.

This is most likely because the person responded to spam with their info and the scammers tried to use it. This is why I say Paypal is secure, they will not hesitate to lock the account if they sense anything is amiss. I've had this happen several times for varying reasons and was glad. Sure its a pain to unlock the account but I look at it this way: if I can't access MY OWN account, there's no way somebody who isn't me can. The charging you speak of is probably the deposit they charge to make sure the account is set up right. I know when I set up my second account I got that back after doing all of the confirmation process.

They also offer 100% unauthorized payment protection and dispute resolution services for purchases made at online merchant stores as well as ebay. That right there throws the "shady business" idea right out the window for me.

I know this sounds like a promotion but I'm just a very satisfied user with an ebay account of over 1000 feedbacks of which more than half were Paypals. I also use Paypal every time I order online and its an option.

I got a pound of 65% beads from BargainHumidors when I bought my large humi and they work great!

Justin- just to be on the safe side, try paypal-ing my account. You know, to see if everything is working correctly. I'll buy some beads with the money and let you know if you're secure or not.

SEe folks. Now THAT is genuine friendship in action!! :p

Okay, another bead question:

Are you guys using 50/50, or just distilled water. Isn't the 50/50 necessary to discourage mold?

Hi guys.

I have been watching this thread for a bit and had a couple of quick comments:

1.) Kitty litter is a desiccant not a humidity regulator - if you are going to spend your hard earned money on cigars, why save a couple of bucks on the single most import aspect of storing your cigars?! Beads do what they were engineered to do...so does kitty litter.

2.) Not all beads are the same. There are 5 different types of beads from several manufacturers. The beads that Heartfelt sells are the best beads (also cost the most) available for regulating humidity in the 60-72% range. There are other beads that are similar but they do not test very well in the range that we store our smokes. The cost about 1/2 of the cost of the Heartfelt beads, I wonder why they aren't 1/2 of the retail price.

Hope this helps!

got my beads form Heartfelt today fast shipping I bought more than I needed but just in case I get a little bigger humi. My question is do you guys use only the beads for humidification? or do you use the beads to regulate? I was looking to just use the beads but I am not sure.

In an enclosed volume (ie - humidor) they are designed to maintain a relative humidity (60, 65 or 70%). No additional humidification required.

First of all, it's not IF you get a bigger humidor!!!

And yes, it regulates - it absorbs and desorbs (is that really a word? Took it right from the website at Heartfelt) the moisture in your humidor - depending on which level you chose.

Barcochris, I think that it depends on your personal preference and individual application. In my Coolerdor, I already had an OasisXL but I added beads to help buffer the RH swings from opening the door. On the other hand, in my desktop Humi, I use 65% beads to control the Rh level, but I keep the original humidification device in there with distilled water in it. The beads pull the water from the device as they need it, thus lengthening the time between adding water to the beads (basically, I'm Lazy!)

It is said in the AC/ refrigeration field that a chest freezer is better than an upright freezer because when you open the door on an upright, the cold falls out. When you open the lid on the chest, the cold stays put. Note: heat rises and cold falls.

With that in mind would a cooler be better for cigar storage sitting as a chest as opposed to an upright? Would the Rh stay in the chest better?? Any thoughts?

Moisture will move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. Everything in nature wants to balance out. If the outside air has less moisture than the air in the humidor then it will escape to try and balance itself with the outside air. This deals with solute concentration and is different than temperature. With plants this is called osmotic potential which helps pull water through the plant from the roots to the leaves which of course are exposed to the air. I don’t believe that the position of the lid to the humidor will have any effect on the amount of humidity leaving the humidor. It will deal solely on the amount of humidity in the humidor and the amount of humidity in the outside air.

That said, warm air will contain more humidity. But, here again, the warm humid air will rise and carry out the moisture. Temperature will try and balance out too. But the humidity will change as the temperature changes.

In short, hold the cooler upside down when you open it, so the warm, moist air will rise into it. Of course your cigars will be lying on the floor in short order. . .see how well it works? You dopn't even have to put in the effort of finding which stick you want and moving the others out of the way!!
