Humidor, or not?

How detrimental, if at all, would it be to keep a box of cigars in the box, and not in a humidor this time of year, when the humidity range is 65% to 80%? Of course, I wouln't be able to do this in the winter.

Humidity is only half the equation. You have to factor in heat as well. Without a thermometer siting inside the closed box, you will not know what the current temperature is that you sticks are being kept at. If the temp were to remain in the high 70's or above for any extended period of time, you run the risk of a possible beetle outbreak. If you do not know about betles and the fun things they can do to a stash, do a search for beetles and I'm sure you will pull more then enough information to make your stomach turn and your knees weak! If you can't afford a humidor, build a coolidor or use some tupperware of something. That way you could put a hygrometer in there as well as a thermometer.

Just my 2 cents though :D

Good point!! Thanks! I have an opportunity to get a box and a half of Camacho darks at an unreal price. Looks like I need to buy another humidor. This time a bigger one. I was warned when I bought the first one....... Live and learn!!!

Hoppy,

If you are storing camachos dont take any chances. As good as they taste they are very high maintnance and can be riuned in a short period of time at a poor humidity or temperature. If you get the darks be sure to look into a box of the figurados, a personal favorite. :D

You're going to need one eventually, so it might as well be now! Get it going and running in time for winter, so it's nice and stable by then.....

Mac- Thanks for the suggestion. From reading your posts, I think we have a comman taste in cigars, and I always look forward to your comments.

I would also like to thank everyone on this forum for helping me understand, and enjoy the true art of smoking cigars!!!!
