Basil Hayden's - I love it. One of the most uniquely flavored bourbons I've ever tasted, but it's monotonous and weak on the down side. It's only 80 proof, and after 83 bourbons, there's no way it could stand up to the competition. I don't assign places to bourbons that have lost the battle to remain in my Top 25, but it's probably still around No. 30-35. Basil Hayden's is great stuff, but at 80 proof it's hard to justify buying it at the price that's usually charged.
Blanton's - I don't like it. I've tried quite a bit of Blanton's over the years. I don't like it.
Classic Cask 15 - After the short lived 20 year old dropped out of the market, quality declined with every subsequent release. The 18 was beautiful, but at times suspiciously bland compared to the 20. The 17 tasted almost watered down, although it had flavors reminiscent of the 18 and 20. So, when the 15 came out at the same price I paid for the 17, which was the same price I paid for the 18, and almost the same price that I paid for the 20, why bother?
Eagle Rare 10 - Nice stuff, but I like more than a hint of clover honey on the palate in my bourbons.
Eagle Rare 17 - Same as the 10, although I hear the 2006 release is a different animal. They're going to have to get a different hunter to come in, shoot the bottle, taste it, and find out whether or not that's true. I don't generally like single barrel bourbons, and the 10 and only bottle of the 17 I had years ago, ultimately disappointed me. Why did I only try one bottle of the 17? Because it tasted so much like the 10, I knew what the "signature" was, and didn't want to see it again.
Black Maple Hill - You didn't say which one, and also note they have rye as well. I tried their 14 and 16 year bourbons and also the 18 year old rye a while back. They all are overpriced, and have the flavor of mushrooms and potting soil in them. A friend who is my guide in the Wonderful World of Whiskey told me it seemed from what he heard they sounded like "overpriced cult whiskey." Tastes that way to me too. I have better things to do with my money at their prices.
Elijah Craig - Again, you didn't say which one. Short and sweet. I hate the 18, and I've had plenty. So do lots of other bourbon drinkers I know. I love the 12. So do lots of other bourbon drinkers I know.
