Your Chance To Rate The WORST Whisky...

I'm surprised too, Rick. After trying a bottle several years ago, I went back two or three years later, just to make sure. I mean, one bottle is hardly a fair sampling of a product, although I have done a number of reviews based on just one bottle. In the case of the Elijah Craig 18 year old, two or three years later, one would figure that if I did get a "bad" bottle the first time, then waiting that long for a second would certainly make for a fair tasting.

Well, it was fair, and after just a couple of tastings from that second purchase, I concluded that I hated it, and gave the rest away. I like the 12 year old a lot, though.

Go figure. Hey, they don't call me The Great Dumboni fer nuthin', pardner. :duh: :sm_angel:

I vote for the Whiskey River. I do drink the E.Craig 18, when it is on sale. On the other hand I hate Wild Turkey in any and all of its forms. Go figure!

Then I guess I shouldnt serve you any more wild turkey when you get back here, just stick with the single malts hahahaha Enjoy, Vince

The One And Only thing worse than bad Bourbon is ANY and All Scotch. Yuk! :barf:

I guess Vince's collection is safe, then. Talk about a scotch maven. I'll bet he secretly owns his own distillery. We'll be hearing about Ye Olde Orend 31 year, sherry cask Highland malt someday.

Dont I wish, but allas no I do not have a highland distellery , but I do have a small still to make my own brandy , but it has a capasity of about a 3/4 gallon , & I make it a few times a year. not as good as the single malt, but it has a little kick to it, , but no age or much color , it gets drank asap. Enjoy, Vince

Vince,
I use to have a 2 gal wood barrel. It was charred and ready to go. It would make a great place to age your Brandy. You could make 3 or 4 batches and maybe even age a gallon or two. Turn the Quarterdeck into a cellar.

Yes Bloofy, Vince's single malts are very safe from me. I will sample his brandy given the chance.

Bad Booze

The absolute worst branded whisky I ever had was Kesslers. Talk about swill.

Tom , thanks for the offer, but I dont know if my swill would stand up to aging, it gets drank fast to keep it from evaporating hahahaha & if I stored any booze in the Qtr.Deck, the wife might never get me to come back in, now I need to come in to refill the snifter, get more coffee , or get rid of the coffee, still no toilet in the Qtr.Deck & the lady next door complains if we water her flowers hahahahaha ,
when are you planning a trip to the Burgh? I will make a fresh batch ! Enjoy, Vince

If the Scotch's are to be included then I have to add Laphroaig, it has got to be the meanest tasting of anything that I have ever tried and as with Bloofington, I tried it more than once from very different batches. No-one that I gave it to had anything good to say about it, kinda became a joke to give someone a toast(not in the know) of some fairly expensive Scotch just to see the expression's on ther faces, PRICELESS!!! :bigpuke: I had a bottle around for a couple of years until this summer, one of the kids (22yrs.) that I work with was joking that he and a bunch of buddies were on a "quest" to find the worst tasting stuff they could and try to get drunk off of it  , told him I had something "special" for him, he tried offering money when I told him that it was in the $50 range, I told him to take it home and try it first, pay me "if" he felt like it, all he could report back was "Nasty, just nasty" and wouldn't talk about it any more, apparently he got sick after just a couple of shots of it I later found out, I still rib him about it!! Sorry for the long post!

sorry but I like Laphroaig, being a scotch drinker I enjoy the smoke , grew up drinking the stuff, , cant do burboun , not enough kick , Enjoy, Vince

No Problem. You drink the bourbon and I will kick you around the QD.

sounds like a fair trade, some one need to kick me when I drink borboun ! hahahaha Enjoy, Vince

It may have been the situation but th worst stuff that i can remeber having is Jameson Irish Whiskey. Granted I have not tried it again in 8 years but for my 21 birthday my 2 fraternity borhters took me out for my first night in a bar legally. They started my out with a 3 wisemen straight up. Now that went down just fine. No problems at all. I had a sam adam's draft for a chaser. Next thing i know some girl from across the bar says "Give the birthday boy this", and the bartender says this is form the loveley lady. It was a shot of Jameson. I shot it back quick; then it started to want to come up. It tasted so aweful.

Dammmm we got to take you to school, First you dont shot whisky, you sip, you savor the taste the aroma the ambance of the room , you should drink it out of a snifter , appricate the color of the fine dramm , watch as it forms legs on the inside of the glass when it is swirlled, become part of the experence, whisky is not a toy. to shoot down like a cowboy in the movie, it takes Years & years to make a fine whisky , dont let it all get away in a second , learn to relax, savor & enjoy the whisky, if it took 18 years in a keg to get to where it is why would you want to hurry it up & have it all over in a second, Hey I'll bet you wife/girlfriend isnt happy when its over in a second is she ? hahahaha
Enjoy, Vince

LOL. I remember the first time I tried that. It tasted like I just drank a house fire. But now that I have broader horizons, I really like the stuff. I just tried another very smokey-peaty scotch, it was called Smoky Amber or Amber Smoke (can't remember, I forgot. That ever happened to you?). It was almost like Laphoraig, but a little less smokey. I like these two with either a Ashton VSG or a Camacho Diploma. You really need a cigar that is going to stand up and fight against them.

iam worken on a weee dram of conneremera peated irish whisky right now , dammm this is a fine dram , nothing at all like some of the bad tasting borboun I have tryed to drink. hahaha, enjoy, Vince

Now, I will drink bit of Irish wiskey every now and then. I have a bottle of the T.Dew I have been working on for a while. Very smooth stuff. Vince is right. If your going to chug chug you might as well do that clear tasteless vodka stuff rather than a well aged wiskey

BT, I will save you a weee dram of the Irish , we have a Cigar crawl the third weekend in May , check out
http://www.cigarcrawl.com maybe you can make it up north then . Enjoy, Vince

Hey, give the 21 year old me a break. I didn't know dirt about appreciating a good whiskey. I would not make the same mistake again. I love my scotish whiskey and do not just shoot that back. I admit it, I was dumb.

One scotch that I did try to enjoy the proper way that I just did not like was Talisker. I just do not like the Islay scotches.
