Your First Cigar

As I sat on my porch today, smoking a La Aroma de Cuba and noticing my palate has developed to the point where I can start to pick out certain flavors and can expect what certain cigars will taste like based on the type of tobacco it's made of, I thought back to my very first cigar, a Garcia y Vega from the local CVS. I didn't think it was abbhorrent, but I was new, what did I know? That night, I was online searching around and looking at info on cigars (whenever I get into a hobby, I like learning every little nuance of a detail there is about it), I stumbled upon cigar.com. I was amazed at the selection and promptly ordered a Corona sampler pack. It arrived a couple days later and I smoked my 2nd cigar ever, a Cusano Corojo and was blown away by the difference in taste when compared to the Cigar de CVS. That was a little over 2 yrs ago and I have become a great lover of cigars that has branched into a love of fine coffees as well. So, what was your first cigar?

If you count machine made, it was a black and mild.. But if you count handmades, it was a GULP***** Macanudo maduro Diplomat...... SORRY!!!!!!   Excuse me while I go sit in the corner.

first ever real cigar was a dried out la gloria cuban churchill maduro...
not to bad as far as things go

Montecristo No. 2 Cuban back in 94 at the tender age of 14. I have never looked back.

Don't hate yourself. When I got out of boot camp I was still very new to cigars. A friend and I went out into town to a local cigar shop and we bought a box of Macanudo "Prince of Wales" I think they were. This was before I realized pretty much on my own that Macanudos were the fad cigar that they are. I should clarify, he bought a box of Ashtons, and I bought the Macanudos. Nedless to say, his box of Ashtons ran out loooooong before the Ma... well... the Mac's never ran out. They kinda jumped out.... of the humidor and into the trash. Oh well. Live and learn my firefighting friend.

Thanks, bkelm. I thought I was going to get my a$$ put on the pole for this one. Good thing Bloof hasn't read it yet...hehehehe

Don't remember?
It was many years ago - I started smoking to keep the bugs away while fishing.
I do remember really getting into cigars (8 years ago) when driving into NY. I'd be in traffic for the tunnel and everyone would be all upset
I recall thinking I hope this traffic lasts another 30 minutes I'd hate to get there before my cigar was finished :D

I too started with the black and milds. I had quit smoking and needed something to replace that hand to mouth fix. After a couple of weeks went by, I realized I had replaced cigs with cigars, no good. So I went to a local tob. store and picked up something called a brazzila from cao and that was that. I still smoke at least one a month, but have come to love so many others, R&J, Cuesta rey, Davidoff $$$, fuente, ETC. I like the big ring gauge smokes in the robusto size. I smoke at least one cigar a day, and have not touched a cig. for over two years. I love cigars, cant belive I just started smoking them two years ago, I have alot of catching up to do. :p

I'm ashamed to admit my first handmade was also a Mac, churchill size. It was a vintage if that is any consolation? :?

You make me sick! Just kiddin. I went to school with a guy in the navy who swore by the "Vintage Macs" as he would call them. We would talk about cigars now and then, and one time he gave me one. Looked about like a churchill. Not that great. A little more flavor than your regular Mac but not much more. Meh, oh well. To each his own, I suppose.

Needless to say, soon after the "vintage" crap I was steered in the right direction and had a Padron Londres maduro and haven't looked back!

The first cigar I ever smoked was the Partagas 898 I believe. Honestly though, I just know it was a regular Dominican Partagas and it was one of the larger sizes.

I had a few swisher sweets back in high school if those count as real cigars. But my first handmades were on my honeymoon 2 yrs ago. We were celebratin in style.--Acid Earthiness and Ghurka rum flavor something in one night. I got so blasted off of those two cigars! I feel like a wus.

I haven't seen Bloof around here, so I don't think he read anything. Besides, don't forget, back about nine years ago, when Bloof started smoking cigars, he smoked a few regular Macanudos himself. Okay, maybe not a few.

Welllll, maybe it WAS a few.

:cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: :flush:

bloof has learned though and now he smokes good cigars aged so they are light like macanonos.

I have of couple Vintage 93's waiting for whenever this fellow Bloofington is ready to receive them :)

Didn't think much of the '93's. The 84's were okay, but occasionally flat. The 88's were always good, very consistent, and the best bang for the buck in the Macanudo Vintage series. Didn't think much of the two '79's I smoked either.
