A favor to ask...

Something Devil touched on was too many people get in and realize it is not for them. When I was a cannon cocker I saw several Marines ruin their lives because they were like I can't deal with this and so they popped on a piss test. This sent them to the brig and a dishonorable discharge, which I know will follow them around for the rest of their life. They only thought about right then not their future. I kept telling my Devil Dogs that were saying it was too hard that this is only for four years a fraction of your life don't ruin it being stupid. Not to say you are of that ilk Rory. I had good times and bad times as nothing worth doing is easy, but I am proud that I served my country in the Corps. I still really miss doing some of the jobs and most of all the comraderie. You notice that USMC, Devil and I all have names related to the Corps and that even though we have never met we have a comraderie. You don't see that with the Army, Navy, or Air Force. I spent 3 year in the Air national guard and they were good people, but it was too bizar for me to go from the Marines to the guard. They just looked at me funny when I told my Marine stories.

Sorry about the long windedness.

Good luck.

I think that is right.
The return address should have Martin on it with a Snohomish, Wa

That WAS your package that I recieved the other day. I'm looking at it now.
Some good stuff in there!

Thanks again, brother.

On another note to everyone, I just got an e-mail from my buddy the other day. He told me that he will be in Fallujah during the elections. He couldn't tell me much about what he's doing, of course, only that he'll be there.
Here's a picture of him with one of the cigars from the first shipment. He promised to send a pic of him in front of the Howitzers next time.

I'll be sending out the next package to him tomorrow.

Thanks again everyone!

Reminds me of when we would leave the field we would smoke a victory cigar. Of course they were crappy swisher sweets or that types as we didn't know any better.

Rory,

I spent five years in the Corps also. It was the best thing I did and shaped who I am today. I did the cannon crewman thing which was hard core, but was able to make a laterial move in to computers, which got me the job I have today. I highly recomend the Corps, it is something I will always be proud of.

USMC,
When were you at Miramar and who were you with? It was my last duty station. I was there 97-98 and was a plank owner.

Regards
Martin

Red,
I was with MALS 16 (across from the PMO) from 1999-2001, and then aerial observer with the ch53 helo for HMH-361 until 2004.

I'll second these guys opinions. Marines are something else. I've spent a little time around them and they do definitely have a comraderie inherent in them that you just can't find here in the Navy. If I was physically fit enough and had the mental fortitude to do what it takes to be a Marine, I woulda done it. I respect the hell outta them. But like they said, make sure it's for you. It's the same here in the Navy, there's the "Dig-It's" (People who love it) and the people who spend their time saying how much their life sucks. Good luck whichever way you decide to go.

Damn, this thread almost got buried on page 3!

Just letting everyone know that the package we sent to my buddy has been recieved by 1MarDiv in Iraq and should be getting to him within a week or two.

I'll be getting out another package to him in about 2 weeks.

In case anyone is planning on sending any packages/letters out for Christmas, check out the email our mailroom
received from the Post Office:

BRINGING THE HOLIDAYS TO MILITARY MEN AND WOMEN
Postal Service outlines guidelines for shipping to military installations overseas

Washington, DC - Military families and organizations across the country preparing care packages to mail
to service members overseas for the holidays need to mark Nov. 12 on their calendars.

Packages being sent by Parcel Post to all Air/Army Post Office (APO) or Fleet Post Office (FPO) ZIP Codes
should be mailed no later than Saturday, Nov. 12, to reach troops stationed overseas in time for the holidays.
Letters and cards sent by First-Class Mail should be posted no later than Dec. 10. There are more than
80 military installations worldwide.

"We are asking families and supporters to mail and ship early this year to insure a happy holiday for our
troops," said John E. Potter, Postmaster General and CEO of the U.S. Postal Service"

To address current demand, the Postal Service has created a special "kit" that contains the necessary
mailing materials based on the most popular items ordered to send care packages to the troops.

This kit may be ordered by calling 1-800-610-8734 and requesting CAREKIT04. The kit contains 10 Priority Mail
boxes, five "Mili-Pacs," one roll of Priority Mail tape, and 10 customs forms with envelopes. There is no charge
for the kit.

Mili-Pacs, developed with the Military Postal Service Agency, are Tyvek envelopes with Old Glory on one
side and feature detailed addressing information. It is encouraged that this process be followed for all mail
destined for military units overseas. The address block on the Mili-Pac accommodates service member's full
name, rank or rating, military organization or unit, APO/FPO with 9-digit ZIP Code.

All packages and mail must be addressed to individual service members, in accordance with U.S.
Department of Defense regulations.

All military units are assigned an APO or FPO ZIP code and in many cases that ZIP Code travels with the unit.
The Postal Service places APO/FPO mail on special charter flights, commercial airlines and military service
aircraft to reach armed services members overseas as quickly as possible.

I ask the same Q. If you arent going to ship them out, I would like to try one out if you are that desperate to get rid of them :)

Just got some more sticks from RAVYN and should be ready to send out another package by next week in case anyone else wants to contribute.

Semper Fi!

I think I have some left. I also have some Lars Tetens that I bought when I first got into cigars. I paid alot for them, but to me they are now worthless. I'll see what I can get together. I will be in a trench rescue class 12 hours a day for the next 3 days. I will try to get them out first thing Monday. I'll have to get your address again.

Capt and Ronn,
For some reason I can't PM anyone. I can respond to them, I just can't initiate them.
You can get my e-mail and snail mail addy on page 2 of this thread.

Thanks again guys. :D

Capt,
Still have those Acids you want to get rid of?

Hey all,
Just wanted to let you know that my buddy got the first pkg....finally!
So I'll be sending out the next one to him in about 2 weeks, seeing how it takes 3 weeks to get to him, he should be pretty well into the first pkg by then and may want some new ones! :D

My address is on page 2 of this thread if you need it.

Thanks again,
Jeff

Bloof,
Got your package yesterday!
Brother, thank you very much for those sticks! Now I'm conflicted.....
you said to keep what I want and send the rest to my buddy, Greg.
I don't know what to keep out of all of those! Such good choices. I think that I'll take 1 of the Hemingway's, 1 of the Don Carlos's and both of the Cuesta's. That'll leave him with 14 GREAT smokes!

Thanks again, man.

-Jeff

WOW!!! That makes four out of four of the packages I sent out on Wednesday evening that all reached their destinations on Saturday. Glad to hear it. I thought the holiday in between would keep at least one of those packages from reaching its destination until Monday. Priority Mail sure is working better the past two years than a few years back.

I hope that whatever you send and keep, that you are both able to enjoy them in peace and safety and with the blessings of The Lord.

Now that a few people have reminded me I figured that I would start another package to get out to my buddy after Christmas. I'll probably send it out the first week of Jan. That will give everyone who wants to contribute time to get a package together to get to me.

Thanks again everyone!!

Semper Fidelis,
Jeff

Me too, Quag. You've got a PM, DD. I wanna help too! There's a really nice Tobacconist right down the street from me. I haven't been there in a long time. They've got a really nice selection, too.

On order has been made with cigar.com and my CChas been charged. Hopefully I will get a tracking number today for you.
