Just about a block away from my new house there is a cigar shop that went out of business about two months ago. I was pretty disappointed, because it would have been awful nice to have one that close. By pressing my nose to the glass door, I can just see into the walkin humi. It looks to be about 12'x8', and pretty well stocked. I can't see much of what's in there, but the first few boxes appear to be Romeo y Julietas.

It occurred to me that the owner of the building might need to dispose of this stuff, so I looked up the property records at the county assessor's office and gave him a call. It turns out that the guy who ran the shop was renting, and that he still owns the smokes. The building owner told me that he had given the shopkeeper 15 days to get his inventory out, and that he is looking for a buyer.

Here's where we come in... I know we are real sketchy on details, but would anyone be interested in the cigar jackpot of the year? I got the shopkeeper's phone number, and I'm going to give him a call this evening. I'm pretty sure I can't afford to make him any kind of reasonable offer on just my own financial resources; however, if you guys want, I can organize a group buy of the inventory, and we can divvy it up. It might get a little complicated, but if the price is low enough, it could very well be worth our while. I'm thinking that since he has to get the smokes out within the next two weeks, we could be looking at well below wholesale.

Maybe I could start an auction thread, and we could finance/divide it that way? Any alternate ideas or interested parties please post here or PM me.

If anyone thinks the auction thread would be too commercial for this board, please also post your concerns.

**edit** Since the shop has been closed for a couple of months, I'm not sure on the condition of the smokes. I'll try to set up a walkthrough meeting, get a better idea of the inventory and the condition of the sticks, then I'll report back to you guys.

Is the power still on in the building? If not, those puppies could have been exposed to some extreme temps, and who knows what could have happened to the humidity. Check on it. If they're still in good shape, I'd be willing to throw a few bucks at it.

I don't think you can do an auction on this site, but I would be interested in a private buy.

maybe everyone puts in like $50.00 and then just make up like a bunch of samplers?

I would not worry about the owner of the inventory just yet. I would ask the land lord what he plans to do when the 15 days are up?

If he is just going to throw everything out, which does happen often in the world of landlord/tenant we could really make out like bandits. Heck I am looking for a humidor as well.

a couple of colibi lighters or whatever, even if the smokes are out there should be other stuff which would be great.

I am with the rest - get us some more info, and if it looks good, we all buy in at a set amount - start with 50 buks, and then if some want 2 shares, it would be 2 x the money.

Everyone would get one of each, and just go from there building samplers as you go through the inventory.

This is all assuming that the sticks are in good shape. I can send you the cash nest week if you like - pm me your addie, and we will go from there.

I like the buying shares idea. I'm going to call the former tenant in about thirty minutes, and see if I can meet him this evening.

I initially was hoping to deal with the landowner, figuring he might let the whole thing go for just a couple hundred (he might not even have any idea what they could be worth). He seemed to still be on good terms with the former tenant though, just by the way he talked about it to me.

I obviously won't commit to anyhting tonight, but I'll let him know I represent "an interested buyer," and see how things go.

Just got off the phone with him. We set up a meeting at the store for sunday evening.

When I meet with him, I will get a feel for what price he might take, then I'll post what we can dispose of and how many takers we would need.

This could be good....

I'd be interested in being part of this, let me know

Dibs on the grape white owls :D

By all means I want in on this. This could very well be the deal of the century. Let's get it on!!!

I think I can do this.
If I put the house pmt. on the visa card - pay the visa with the M.C. - bump the phone bill back a week - make my truck pmt. with discover and send in the new "pre-approved" amex application to use for next months bills :?: :? I think that will work.

I'm in. :D

LIGHTLY pencil me in ... this may put me over my quota for the month.... but i may be able to draw from next month

gotta work out a few things first.

Me too. Specially if the X is laying around. Any humi's? Always need another humi.
