Just about a block away from my new house there is a cigar shop that went out of business about two months ago. I was pretty disappointed, because it would have been awful nice to have one that close. By pressing my nose to the glass door, I can just see into the walkin humi. It looks to be about 12'x8', and pretty well stocked. I can't see much of what's in there, but the first few boxes appear to be Romeo y Julietas.
It occurred to me that the owner of the building might need to dispose of this stuff, so I looked up the property records at the county assessor's office and gave him a call. It turns out that the guy who ran the shop was renting, and that he still owns the smokes. The building owner told me that he had given the shopkeeper 15 days to get his inventory out, and that he is looking for a buyer.
Here's where we come in... I know we are real sketchy on details, but would anyone be interested in the cigar jackpot of the year? I got the shopkeeper's phone number, and I'm going to give him a call this evening. I'm pretty sure I can't afford to make him any kind of reasonable offer on just my own financial resources; however, if you guys want, I can organize a group buy of the inventory, and we can divvy it up. It might get a little complicated, but if the price is low enough, it could very well be worth our while. I'm thinking that since he has to get the smokes out within the next two weeks, we could be looking at well below wholesale.
Maybe I could start an auction thread, and we could finance/divide it that way? Any alternate ideas or interested parties please post here or PM me.
If anyone thinks the auction thread would be too commercial for this board, please also post your concerns.
**edit** Since the shop has been closed for a couple of months, I'm not sure on the condition of the smokes. I'll try to set up a walkthrough meeting, get a better idea of the inventory and the condition of the sticks, then I'll report back to you guys.
