Tofu VS. T Bone
Well I will be the first to say I LOVE beef , & the T bone is one of my all time favorite cuts of beef, I like it about an inch & a half thick, cooked rare over a charcole fire , about 140/145 F internal temp. just a little salt & fresh ground black pepper , no A1, no Woschershire ,a little grilled onion & some mushroom on the side is nice , a large mug of dark beer , a pile of french frys nice & dark, with a little salt & ketchup, , Corn on the cob, just a little butter on it, & a tossed green salad with extra virgin olive oil & aged Balsmaic Vinagette dressing & maybe some baked beans , & not the stuff in a can, I mean the real thing ! a Shrimp or 2 to get started, well maybe 3 or 4 big ones & dont forget the coctail sauce !, a small slice of cheese cake to finish it all up with , coffee & a BIG CIGAR with a single malt scotch to wash it all down with, Now that my Friends is what I call a real meal, However I have been eating a lot of Tofu in the past 2 years & it isnt all that bad, for you few who dont know what Tofu is, well it is the ferminted curd of a soy bean, almost like a cheese , but since it is made from Soy & not milk it is a different animal all together, not a lot of taste all by it self, but it lends itself to picking up the flavors of what ever you cook with it, It comes in blocks packed in water, you get it in the produce section of the store, get the firm or extra firm style , I love it cooked with peppers onions & garlic , just cut it into cubes & toss it in the cooked onions & peppers, add a little teriyaki sauce & you have a fine supper, add the shrimp to the pot if you want , it will add to the taste, it is Full of protene & very easy to digest & you can have all the different sides that you would have with the T Bone , even the Beer ! The cigar & single malt with coffee on the side also go well with the tofu, the meal is filling & low cal, low fat & tastes good, not as good as a T bone but a great substitute if you want to take off a few pounds & are worried about eating rare beef, any beef cooked to long is not good in my book, if it gets past medium toss it to the dog !

Knock off its horns wipe its @$$ & serve it, that is the way I like my beef, !

Enjoy, Vince

Besides the tenderloin, NOTHING beats a porterhouse!! You get the best of both worlds!!

Nice image. you had me up till tofo. I don't mind the taste of it. It just gives me cramps, and the worst gas you've ever smelled. I'll stay chubby and eat the T-Bone (no gas) :)

I ate tofu once.

operative word: once

I didn't care for it at all. I'm so young and skinny that it doesn't really matter though. Not right now anyway. When I get older I'm sure I'll have to pay more attention to my cholesterol and all that, but right now I just eat what I want.

Vince, you paint quite the picture my friend! You've got me drooling all over my keyboard!

I also agree w. you on the tofu. Being part Asian, I have it occasionally and love the stuff!

I like my steak cooked "pittsburg" style.....chared and black over an open charcole flame and kinda rare inside

filet migon and thick thick thick....a lil broiled lobster with it dont hurt either

tofu is good for slingshots..that way you dont hurt anyone :D

I like a good rare steak as well. I've heard that as long as the outside of the steak is cooked, there is little to no danger of illness from rare beef. I'm not 100% sure if that's true or not, but it makes me feel better. I'd rather take my chances than overcook it. As for tofu, I like it, but I can't convince my wife to give it a fair try. I guess I'll just keep eating the steak. All this talk about steak is making me hungry!

Hmmm.....steak day at the quarter deck...
Could be a summer theme !!!!!

Gotta go with the porterhouse opver the t bone. They are actually the same cut of meat, just different side of the cow (front to back). As the butcher goes along making cuts, the further along he goes, the cut changes from porter to T bone depending on the size of tenderloin on the cut, the t bone being the smaller of the two. Its funny though, when I get a big porterhouse, my wife always says, "I'll just take that small piece on that side of the bone." She's cute isn't she.  We don't share porterhouses anymore, now I just buy a filet for the same price (and 1/3 the size) for her. I need another steak meal soon. I think Sunday might work. That and a good bottle of red wine, some kind of Alexander Valley Cab Sav.

I'm Asian and have tofu once in a while. I've never had it grilled though. Only had it as a side dish.

T-Bone!

Wait, no. . . I'm a vegetarian. . . Tofu!

Tofu is very versatile. No bad fats, no mad cow, no guilt (for me at least.) Okay, you asked for it

Uh oh - Brenda has offended the almight steak eaters!

Run for it Brenda, I'll cover ya!

I can't agree with you more about the T-Bone steak being one of the best tasting steaks around. I will not say this is better, but try a "True Rib Eye" sometime. This is the very middle loin of the prime rib with all the fat cut away. Cut like a KC or NY steak. Rub this beautiful steak with olive oil and season with: Kosher salt, black pepper, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder and celery seed. Let it stand at room temp with the seasoning and oil for at least 4 hours before the BBQ. Use true mesquite charcoal started with twigs. After the charcoal has reached it's peak wait another 5 minutes and then fire that baby. I like black and blue myself but a nice medium rare is great for this cut as well. We are talking big bucks here for sure, BUT you might as well have the best. As for Tofu, uh, well, I would rather die fat and happy than skinny and hungry. 8)

I've got no problem with vegetarians, in fact I hvae friends who are vegetarians, but PETA takes it too far, IMO. I've got a few choice words for them that I'll refrain from saying here. :grumble:
