Why are cuban cigars illegal?

Why are Cubans illegal?

Because the United States government SAYS SO!!!!

Hey, who you callin' illegal? :sm_angel:

fact cubans are VERY illegal cause johnny kennedy bought all he needed n didnt give a damn about the rest of us
fact if i was in the service id rather be caught with coke than a cuban...
forget it
fact theres nothing in the world more pompus than someone that tries to palm their personal taste off as important
fact ive smoked a lot of cubans but none pre embargo
fact i dont think youre missing anything at all
fact i finally decided i needed to find out what the hell i was missing so i bought a real expensive cuban...ive bought nice cars for half what i paid for that stoggie
fact it canoed so bad i could hardly keep it lit
fact collections are fun...ive got a stamp collection i started when i was like 6 yrs old....go for it
but in my very personal opinion if you want taste and sure as heck if you want bang for the buck...go to honuras or the dr
after you get out of the service if you still want a cigar without a band on it...email me...i can arrange it at a very reasonable price
i should add that of all the cubans ive tried i found the less expensive ones to be more to my liking....call me a cossack

Fact: It was probably fake.....

That's right capt it was probly facker than a Bill Clinton $3.00 bill. And nothing compares in taste to a Habano, nothing. That said if I' was condemed to smoke NC's only, the only one I' could smoke dat' comes close to a Cuban in taste is Padron. Dat' the only NC bran I' can stand taste wise.

im not so sure nzsailor smoked a fake. New Zealand is pretty legit on the cuban front.

Ahh the age old debate! I cannot stay away any longer! Sailors smoke could have been a miriad of diffferent things, and we all know it, could have been wet, could have been old, could have been a humid day when he smoked it, it could have been 10000000 other things. The fact of the matter is, this is why this issue will never die. You have some who say a $5 cuban kicks the domestics noses in the dirt and you have others saying there are domestics that are just as good, but don't mention price. I will not instigate by saying there are no domestics that will compete nose to nose for the same US dollar amount, but I will say that I have smoked cubans that drew terrible, that were plugged and all that crap, but! what I will say is, those were the best 1/8" 's of a cigar I ever smoked!! :D Domestics win hands down for construction, but I agree with CC A PAM or hell even a Bolivar regente for that matter make a hell of a great smoke!

I will have to try the CC challenge on smoking nothing but cubans for a month or two, I've heard the same reviews from other boards on the topic.

Enjoy all, and keep the opinions flowing!! It's the beautiful thing about our hobby, so many different choices for so many different palates, but I can still enjoy smoking a fine cigar with anyone who enjoys the same hobby! 8)

Paul

I hope I didn't come across as an A$$ in my post. I have smoked several what I thought were real Cuban cigars, but when I lit them, I knew they were fake. I will say however, I have never had an authentic cuban "canoe". Hard draw, yes. It comes with the territory.

the expensive cuban i refered to was purchased at the best known cigar house in new zealand
they import all their own
and at that time they were only importing cubans which is still over 95% of their stock
either they are complete frauds
the cigar was shipped into cuba and back out again
or
it was cuban
most of the other cubans i have smoked came from well known international duty free chains
wasnt impressed with a one
but again
those are my tastebuds
to each his own

The only way to tell is it is real or not, is by the flavor of the tobacco, all legit packaging and construction put aside....I've had some fakes that passed all inspection, even down to the blacklight responsive seals and tripple caps, but when lit...it wasn't close to how the cigar should have tasted...go figure

I have never bought a Cuban. Some of the best cigars I have ever smoked were said to be Cuban. I have no way to tell if they were genuine due to my inexperience, but they were all exceptional. Even so...I thoroughly enjoy my NC's. I have found a few labels that are my favorites and I savor their flavor! I also place a huge value on variety and smoke cigars with such varied flavors that it would surprise me if I would notice the nuances CC talks about (ie. the metallic taste). Besides, I probably won't get the chance to try that experiment till Fidel takes the dirt nap!
