First of all, I just wanted to say thanks to everybody in this forum. I have learned a lot about my cigars.

I have a new question.

What do you drink with your cigars?
  :wine:

I prefer coffee, wine, ice tea,or soda. Sometimes a beer, but it depends on the cigar and the beer. Dark or heavy beer can make the cigar taste bitter. Some red wines will make the cigar taste metalic or bitter, its the tannins in the wine. A white zin, or a pinot gregio are my favorites. Burbon, scotch are good to. When its hot out, a Mike hard lemonade, smirnoff ice, etc are good too. Thats what I drink, hope it helps you

To sum it up, you'll find most people prefer either nothing (or water), coffee, a nice fulfilling beer, or a good scotch/whiskey.

I personally prefer all of the above depending on the mood.

All of the above, well, except maybe coffee. I think I'll like it, it's just that I rarely smoke cigars in the morning and rarely drink coffee when it's not morning so I haven't gotten around to trying it yet.
I find whiskey, brandy, yellow beers, water, and tea work with just about any cigar. Well, unless you count flavored ones maybe. I also enjoy port, wine, and dark beers with a cigar but those aren't so universal, particularly the port. Drinks with a long finish can clobber the flavor of milder smoked. Port seems to be able to knock down some medium ones. It goes quite well with something like a Camacho or CAO Brazillia though.

I hate to beat a dead horse , but I love a cup of strong black coffee & a fine old single malt whisky, Scotch or Irish, , some times a weee sip of vintage port with the coffee, or just the coffee, depends on the time of the day, what i am doing , the weather, & who I am with, some people rate the good stuff, while I just sip the average stuff at times, I dont like the guys shooting $300.00 a bottle whisky like it was Johnny Walker Red . you know what I mean ??? I dont mind sharing , as long as you sip & enjoy, but to make a face after shooting a double shot out of a brandy snifter, like it was rot gut cheep bar whiskey , it just makes me crazy. you dont taste it like that , the stuff sits in a keg for 25 YEARS & some one slams it down as fast as they can swallow, dammmmm that just ticks me off !
well I have vented now I feel better , Enjoy, Vince

I'm going to be a little different. In the summertime I will go with a glass of whiskey or cognac. In the wintertime, however, I will smoke a cigar, then go back inside and have a cup of hot tea, preferrably Bigelow English Teatime or Bentley's Irish Breakfast Tea. I like decaf tea so it doesn't keep me up the rest of the night.

Last night I had an interesting combo. I had a Greycliff original PGX with a glass of Riesling. I was not originally planning on have a glass of wine but my wife was going to bed and was going to dump the wine (I hate alcohol abuse). I was enjoying this mild offering and figured that I would try the combo. It wasn't bad, in fact the body of the two items worked with each other. The flavour on the cigar was not too much to overpower the wine. I think the wine actually brightened up the flavour of the cigar and helped me pick up some subtle things I may have to noticed. Now I'm not saying that this is my new go to combo; but it was something that could be played with in the future.

phisherman, I know you enjoy the wine. Is there a wine/cigar combo that you deliberately go for?

As for the rest of you guys, is there a wine/cigar combo that works for you?

I particularly like a Zinfandel (red, not white) with the stronger cigars. I'm really partial to this one:

Racho Zabaco Dancing Bull

Any of them work pretty well though. I find that the more powerful Zinfandel can really open up my taste buds and I actually taste more of the cigar than usual.

That sounds like a very good wine, I am going to have to see if my local carries it. I tried to use the picture as an avatar, but I think it was too big. Oh, well, there you go!

You know what, this is the first time that I have had both wine and a cigar together. I am usually such a wine-o that I want nothing to get in the way of the flavour of my wine. I think it might be too powerful for the wine. I have been toying with the idea but have not pulled the trigger yet. Something for me to keep in mind. I am a wine whore though, just love a good bottle of red wine, nothing like it.
