It Took Awhile, They Still Haven't Cashed My Check, . . .

but the shipment from the renewal of my J.C. Newman Cigar Connoisseurs Club finally arrived. This year's t-shirt, that's right folks, it's a different t-shirt every year, is a great design and I love the fact that for the second year in a row, it's got a little pocket on it.

The four cigars have been put to sleep in Desk Top IV, now clocking in at 62%, after a long, arduous struggle back from the upper 40's this winter.

According to my check register, the check was dated May 4th, a Wednesday, and was probably mailed the same day. I actually saw the box laying on the shelf outside my garage when my taxi pulled out Wednesday, which was June 8th. I just left it there. The box did get rained on while I was in the city, but the box had dried. Interestingly enough, when I opened the box at about 1 a.m. this morning, the invoice inside was almost soaking wet.

They are always slow, and I always get it before they cash my check. You should have yours soon. Give it until next week. If not, go to their web site, and send them an inquiry.

What is this taxi shit?. Where is it That you live?
I'm in major cities every day and I avoid taxis. I'd rather shit in my pants. I'll take a bus or subway in a minute but A TAXI. I have trouble with English- how do you communicate?
Sorry- I'm wired- a great day- no drugs.

I live in a semi-rural area of Lower Dutchess County, 71 miles due north of "midtown Manhattan," seven miles from the nearest railroad station, at an elevation above sea level of about 1100-1200 feet, or perhaps even more. The jury is still out on that point, but it's at least the figure I mentioned.

I do not have a car, because when I ran into severe health and financial problems a few years ago, shortly after buying this place and sinking $17,000 into renovations, my plans came to an abrupt halt. To this day, I still don't have a car, and I let my learner's permit lapse by mistake because of stress caused by my financial problems. The renovations are still on hold. My only way of getting to and from civilization is by the local taxi company.

As for traveling within The Big Citeh itself, I also would rather poop in my pants than take a taxi to or from anywhere in NYC. The only exception is between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., when you can actually GET somewhere by taxi. When I hear people discuss taking a taxi in NYC at 2 in the afternoon from one point to another, I just shake my head, and think these people could walk there in about the same time and the subway would be faster. Why take a taxi? It just makes no sense to do so within a large urban area during regular business hours and even well into the night.
