My New Frigidor Build

This is making my head hurt. While I understand a lot of the technical stuff being spoken of, there are four year old girls who are more handy than me. I think I'll stick to boring desk tops. :? :?

Wow, really nice work. . .So, when you are done, can you make a carbon copy for me

. . .but really, when you are finished will the temp be regulated and stable. (unlike my humidor that is on the fritz?) :duh: :duh:

I was busy for most of the day so I didn't get anything done unfortunately. I don't have to work for the next three days so I'm hoping to get more done.

Bloof, believe me when I say I've made my share of mistakes. I've had to take everything apart more than once to fix stupid mistakes. And I also put a nail through my thumb. I do this type of stuff all the time though and have from a very young age when I learned from my grandfather who used to teach woodworking.

Bob, the little white boxes are just short runs of wiremold which just hides the wires.

As to making copies, I've thought about it but in order to recoup costs and labor we would be talking in the neighborhood of probably $800-$1000. Not bad compared to Arlin Liss or Bob Staebell but not as nice to look at either. I might make another in the future and see how it does on eBay but that's probably a ways off. There is a company called Eurocave which essentially does this but they use all of their own components.

I certainly hope it regulates temp and humidity efficiently otherwise I've well, well I don't want to think about it not working.

Now you should mount a computer in the bottom with a screen on the top - you could surf while you are not looking at the gars!!

Very nice bro, I can see its going to look very sharp with those lights and everything.

Are you going to use a remote hygometer? You could mount the readout in the controll box like they do with computers. Put RPM guages for the fans on it - it will be very cool indeed! 8) 8)

Bike, I have two radioshack remote sensors and a base that I bought when they were on clearance. I'll put one on the top and one on the bottom. The control box will be in the back of the fridge where the cooling unit is so It would be kind of hard to see any display. I like the idea of the computer station though, kinda like the new refridgerators with internet access to buy new food. Maybe I can get it to search for deals on my favorites.

Anyways, I had to help paint my grandparent's house today so I didn't get much done. I rewired the control box for a different layout but nothing else. I'm hoping to finish the lining tomorrow, so we'll see if anything keeps me from that like things have of late.

I'm almost done now. I've got all the wiring in, the lining complete and the only thing not hooked up is the Oasis. I don't want to run the wire like I did all the rest in case I can't use it , so instead I'm going to get some ribbon cable and run it underneath and through the door.

I'm only going to post a few pics on here but there are more on my photobucket page.

I have the base and one sensor but am having a hard time finding a second. Does anyone have a link to Radioshack's website where I can just purchase an extra sensor?

Woohoo! It's SEASONING!

Man you do very good work. Maybe i could get some steps on how you added all you stuff because i have the same style wine cooler.

My Oasis is working hard trying to season it. Slowly it's getting there though.

Sure, PM me and I might be able to help you out.[/quote]

Thanks for all the nice feedback!

The project is still going on now as I didn't like the way the control box turned out. It stuck out too far and blocked the drainage hole in the back of the cooler, which is not good since water is dripping out of there close to my power supply and receptacles from all the seasoning. Plus I couldn't really get at the switch for the lights easily. So I decided to build a base for the fridge that will hold all the wires and everything. This will also help me out since the pile on my varpet is kind of thick and doesn't let the door swing easily.

I got the frame for it done tonight and hopefully I'll get the trim done tomorrow. Then I'll post some pics.

Wow, incredible job you did with that. Are you planning on getting it featured in the CCom catalog?

My only question would be: Is that lighting in any way going to be detrimental to your cigars?

They are UV lights, so if anything, it may help the cigars. I'm sure they won't hurt anything. They run cool unlike other tube lights, so they don't put off heat either. I've looked into the inverters heating up also and they don't. The only thing that even remotely concernes me is that if the inverters fry, they could smoke a little.

Either way, the power supply makes a lot of noise so I probably won't have them on a whole lot. The new base I'm making (pictures tonight) will house it, and that's more insulated so it'll probably be lot quieter, but still I don't think I'll have them on much.

As for the catalog, that's not the plan but it'd be cool. I don't know... HEY ALEX!!

I should have kept my Kept my mouth shut (or hands of the keys anyway). I had the lights on for a while and it got hot. It went from 68 degrees to 82 degrees. I'm not sure why but the lights are not going to be in there much longer if it happens again. They're cold cathode lights so they're not supposed to heat up and they didn't before, so its very confusing.

Anyways here are some pics of the base I've been working on. I just painted it and installed the electrical boxes and vent for the power supply (which I won't need if the lights have to come out). I still have to poly it and wire it though.
