My New Frigidor Build

Quag,, I think your humi looks fantastic. One potential problem I see is the middle trays are not going to get a lot of air movement or moisture to them. What have you done about that or do you not think that it is a problem. With the trays filled up I could see it being a problem.

Do you have more than one digital Hygro?
If so leave them in a few spots and see if the RH is even - if so I would not be worried.

there's a fan at the top that blows air down and one at the bottom that blows up for ten minutes every two hours

That is more than enough - if the air turned on 2 x 3 times aday I'd
bet that was enough.
I doubt my humidor turns on more than 2x a day.
It is an Avallo with Set & Forget - pretty much top of the line.
It only kicks on if a RH sensor takes a low reading.
I think your fine!

Yep two Hygros. One by the boxes, and one by the singles.

I'm definitely going to put some extension slides in for the shelves either way. I have to take all of the trays out to get to one, then carefully stack them and put them back. That will give me a little more airflow.

Did you build the shelves or did you buy them? and what size are they?

The shelves I made, the trays I bought from bargainhumidors.com. The trays are 12.5 x 7.5 x 2.25. They hold around 25-30 cigars.

The shelves I made are about the same size.

Hey Justin I just ordered four trays for my wine cooler. If you finish the extension slides i would like to see how you did it.
thanks David

I haven't ordered them yet because I think I'll need to dado the trays and my tablesaw needs its motor rewound. So it'll probably be awhile.

Quag; What's up with the cellophane? It seems that the consensus is to unwrap your cigars for proper storage and aging. Anyway, that humidor you made is incredible. I would have ruined the looks by hanging a stout hasp and big Slaymaker on it to keep curious little fingers out. I'm a fairly recent cigar smoker and am still in the 'multiple 25-cigar humidors' category. I'd like to get to the point where I had a set-up similar to yours and could buy cigars for the future and age them a few years before smoking. Even with three small humis going and only smoking one cigar a day, it's pretty much 'buy 'em and smoke 'em' for me.

the cellophane makes not difference... its a porus material. its on there for protection.

in theory itll actually stop flavors from mixing.

boils down to personal prefrence.

... i keep it on.

All personal preference. The cellophane is porous enought to let moisture in and out. It also helps to protect the cigar.

Thank you for the comments. Eventually you'll get to the point I'm at. I've actually almost outgrown this fridgidor already and am going to build another in the near future.

Very nice. But whats with the humidor inside? Have you experienced any RH problems with that?

My next one will be like that and have no lining as the trays are sometimes a pain to get at because the lining leaves only about a 1/4" on either side of the shelves so there's nowhere to grab. I was going to put full extension slides on the drawers but don't have enough clearance.

That's a smart way to keep it cool.

iminaquagmire,

great work!! My question is how did you connect your wood together? I'm sure you didn't use glue or did you?
