The life of a Firehouse Chef

It's amazing!!! That why I dont leave anything around anymore. Although, my cooking disappears pretty fast too. lol

Forget about the gloves...I'm waiting to hear how the ribs turn out tomorrow

If you guys are big BBQ fans, I'll send out the recipe for my rub.... It is awesome. I usually don't sauce my ribs. People that put sauce on their ribs are shady characters in my book...lol What are they hiding????

I know. Between Capt, Vince and one or two others, I can't come here anymore, because shortly after I sit down, I feel like eating!!! And I can put it away.

Wait until you see my menu for Thurday Lunch. I think the Chief is gonna eat with us, so I have to go all out. If you guys want any recipes, PM me. I got some good FAST recipes we have developed here for quick meals. But this is a cigar board right? Maybe I should go to the Betty Crocker forum. :(

Actually, I am going to let you all in on a "little secret" here. Be patient. Because of Vince's input over the time he's been here, a Food type forum has been discussed behind the scenes. Because of the input from Capt and also some others like BigTom, I am seeing a burgeoning, dare I say it, "need" for such a thing. Right now, the staff at AmBack is engaged in frying MUCH bigger fish, so in the meantime, no problem bringing up food related topics or talking about them in general.

But be patient, and perhaps one day we are going to have a forum devoted to food in all it's wonderful forms. Personally, the best way I like my food is in my mouth where I can taste it and in my stomach where I can feel it. :cryinlaugh:

So you mean I'm gonna have a place to discuss all the things I'll be learning to cook...not to mention family recipes? 8)

I am glad someone actually reads my food posts. There are two things I enjoy, (besides my lovely wife) food and cigars. If they are paired just right, It is a beautiful thing.

got any recipes for a good rub for some chicken breasts? i usually just throw some garlic powder, salt and some italian seasoning on a chicken breast after i bbq it for a bit. somthing easy like that.

I usually dont put a rub on chicken, just seasoning. Rubs tend to have more salt than just seasonings, and it can dry out the chicken. I do have some good sauces though.

Capt

Sorry I forgot I told you I would post these. The first two are pics from my hunt in fall of 04 when I went with my buddy charles who lives in Lansing. I love the second one. He just bought that land rover and the dog is pissing all over it

The last pic is from my bachelor party in Feb of 05 Between us we took down over 100 birds :D Good eating that month :D

Anyway, I am looking forward to our hunt.

Capt, did you have experience working in a kitchen before you became a firefighter? Or were they just like "Uhhh... you... you're the new cook."? By the sounds of it you have experience.

Bkelm, I actually started cooking just before I started as a firefighter. My Mom is Greek, so you know how the Greeks can cook. Being a firefighter just fueled my desire to cook. Plus, I always have the Food Network on here while I'm at work. I think the Food Network has done a terrific job of teaching people that cooking isn't really difficult. As long as you have some basic tools, you can cook anything you get in a fancy restaurant!!

they also taught me that rachael ray needs me. She likes football, can cook hella good and isn't too hard on the eyes. thats a keeper.

Did you know that Rachel Ray was in FHM????? I have it, but will never let it go!!!

Mac, I too am looking forward to the hunt. As I told you, my lab said he is ready, but you better hit what you are aiming at, or he won't flush for ya!!! I am just kidding. He said he'll flush for anyone...

No need for the scanner:

Not too worry, she is clothed in all the pictures, so no nudity. I give it a PG-13.

And to keep this slightly on topic: I do agree that the Food Network is a great resource for people who love cooking but don't have the time to take classes or anything like that. I watch it all the time.

Wow - now I just need my wife to cook like that. Or cook at all! I do 90% of the cooking at home.

I think one of the best shows on Food Network is Good Eats - next would Iron Chef!
