What Did You Smoke Today

Lets see......I was on a two week road trip and smoked a few...... If my memory serves me I smoked an Opus x, an Ashton Aged Maduro #40, a Rocky Patel Old World Reserve, a Rocky Patel Honduran Classic, a Fuente Double Chateau, a Rocky Patel Edge, A Camacho Triple Maduro, A few Padron #4000's, and a Perdomo 10th Maduro. There were a couple of others but they are slipping my mind.

I remember the good old days when Jack Daniel's was a solid 90 proof. Then some time ago, it was made at 86 proof, yet the price went up. Hmm, less booze, more money. That's the American spirit! Now, I refuse to buy it, as it has dropped to 80 proof, and the taste I loved all those years ago is gone. Yet, the price keeps climbing. Well, a friend dropped off a bottle of Jack last night. The price was good, as I didn't pay, so I'll have a glass of my former favorite libation tonight.

I will start with a CAO MX2 Belicoso, and end with a Monte 3.

One of my stops on my vacation was Lynchburgh. We toured the distillery and I bought a commemorative bottle that was 86 proof.

Colonel, I love Jack myself, but enjoy small batch bourbons better.

Smoked a 3 Siglo Torpedo last night. These are still fresh from the box, need a bit of age. In 3 months time, these will be even better.

Smoked a Man O' War Ruination yesterday. I have only have these cigars about a month, but man, they are going fast. Couldn't tell ya if there was a benefit to aging, as I doubt this box will live that long!

I smoked a Davidoff "Special T" on the front nine - unbelievably mild - glad it was a gift because man these are wayyyyy overpriced! Finished the back with a Monte Petit Edmundo - now that's a cigar.

You still doing that golf thing? I figured you would have taken up shooting sports by now!

It's about the only thing New Jersey lets me do nowadays! The MRI on my knee tomorrow will let me know if I am done for the season or not.

I figure that I will be at the range come the spring - my son did well in Junior Rifle league but the late nights during the school week were a killer. I also figure that if I get to shooting more that will obligate you to act like an old guy and start swinging some clubs!

I will never take up golf. Just another expensive sport that I can't afford. These bird dogs and wingshooting are expensive enough!

Understood - that's why I don't want to take up any more hobbies, myself.

But on the course this morning (got out at 6:45 and done by 9:45) - I smoked:

Sancho Panza Belicosa
Bolivar Coronas, Jr (wow - that was a great smoke)
and finished with a Jose Piedra Cazzadore (the old reliable)

My lungs need a rest.

Well, I just tried to save a draft of my reply long enough to gather a second quote that I was going to include but, as usual, I don't know how to do that so one quote is all ya get.

I'm tired of talking to myself, so this may very well be my last post on this thread.

What annoys me about Jack Daniels watering down the hooch in order to increase the bottom line is that they hid the fact from us. Bloofington and I had an interesting discussion on this topic over in the 'spirits' thread quite some time ago.

Anyway, small batch bourbons are quite good and, for some at least, the price is reachable. I like some of them, ranging from Knob Creek to Booker's but (and I shouldn't let my secret out) I've found a sour mash bourbon that I can't hardly tell from JD and it's LOTS cheaper! If you're interested, give Evan Williams a try. I drink it on the rocks and I think it's every bit as good as JD. 'Course, opinions are like bellybuttons - - everybody's got one.

As for this being my last post, well, I check in every now and then but to be honest, it's not as interesting as it used to be when there were more folks posting.

Today I smoked a 3200 sg ft house, about 25% and then a small ranch style house, about 10%. We have been busy here at work today. 5 calls, and it's not even dark out!

Front nine yesterday was a Punch Churchill - I had split the foot pretty bad so I had to lop off about 1/4 of it. Nice mild and mellow smoke after that. Back nine - Jose Piedra Cazzadore.

Smoked a Gurkha Micro-Batch TPB-1. Unless you want to age these for 2 years, don't waste your money. I am going to let the rest of the box age for a few years and see what I come up with.

Smoked a SLR Churchill 00 to start the day off. It's a good cigar - glad I didn't pay too much for them. Followed it up with a Monte Petit Edmundo - that is a great cigar. Never lets me down.

I started to go through my inventory - time to start smoking some different cigars.

Looking forward to meeting up with CastleCrest next week for a meeting by the river.

Been at work for two full days (48 hours), and first thing I am going to do when I get off in the morning is head home and dig through the humidors and find something old and expensive to smoke!!!

I've been tapped for time lately, but I managed to smoke twice this week. Met my good friend Loren (CastleCrest) by the Delaware river for a smoke. We both smoked Por Larranaga Robustos RE (Asia) that I had found hidden in my humidor with some tremendous Kenyan AA coffee that Loren had brought. After that I smoked a Ralph Gonzales PC. Great morning of BS, smoking and coffee. To top it off Loren handed me a custom rolled Salamone - which was rolled by "La China" one of the top torcedors in Cuba - that will be a tremendous special occasion cigar. Thank you Loren!!!!

On Friday I played some golf (yes, what a shock) - it has been tough to play due to knee problems - should start injections next week to work on that. Okay, I smoked a TON.

I started the morning with a Hoyo Petit Robusto - a great way to start the round with coffee. Moved to a Monte Petit Edmundo and then smoked 2 Jose Piedra Cazzadores. Played well for an old man. The highlight was an eagle on our 15th hole - rattled the pin from 140 yards and dropped right in the hole.

Don't know how much I will be able to smoke this week.

Last night I smoked a AF Hemmingway Best Seller from 2004. I got a box of these from Alex in a trade a few years back. Man are those awesome with age!
