Suggestions for a smooth Port wine

Howdy all! A new guy here. I'd like some suggestions for a good tasting, smooth Port wine. I've tried some-[actually very few] that were bitter and just didn't taste good. Could you please suggest some brands for an admitted novice to try that you think would be good to start out with? I really...

    1792 Ridgemont Reserve, Super Bowl Party . . .

bourbon!!! Just finished my definitive tasting of this one last night, a bottle I've been going through at about the same time I've been tasting the Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2006 and the Vintage Ryes. That has pretty much, along with a bit of Knob Creek and a secret, high proof...

Quoting Reagan, "I've Had It Up To My . . .

Keister" with unfiltered, barrel proof, "unique," "complex," "fascinating," "mysterious" and "tantalizing" new offerings in whiskey and rye. I mean, when you find yourself searching to review something, and it suddenly dawns on you that you're about to say . . . "Entry of cream-style...

War Of Attrition: A Report On Vintage Rye, . . .

both the 21 and 23 year old versions. When I got to taste the newly released line of bourbons last year, bearing the name "Vintage," you may remember how excited I was about the 21 and 23 year old offerings. Although I wound up really disliking the 17 year old, I also admitted that the entry...

    Chivas Regal 18 years

I'm really not much of a drinker, but was gifted this Chivas Regal aged 18-years bottle in an oval tin container on Thanksgiving. I wanted to try this out with the person who gifted this, but he doesn't drink at all. I don't know anything about whiskies. Or is this a scotch? single-malt...

    What did you buy today?

This has worked pretty well for cigars, so I'll see how it goes for booze. If it works well, great. If not...I hope people start new threads so this gets on a back page. Today, armed with my knowledge from this forum, I went to my local liquor store and bought a bottle of Bowmore...

    Election Day?!?

So I get off of work early today, and I really want a bottle of scotch and a bottle of bourbon. I look through old threads and see some great suggestions from Vince and Bloof. The first liquor store I get to is closed--odd on a Tuesday, but oh well. Then I drive to the second one...closed due to...

    Monty Pythons's Holy (Gr)Ail

This is an interesting beer that is bottled by the Black Sheep brewery in Masham, Yorkshire England. A friend of mine gave it to me, and he told me it was available locally, I hope you can find it too. It isn't a dark ale, but is a great reddish brown color, and the flavor just seems to...

    Old Potrero Hotalings Whiskey. . . .

My overall financial picture is extremely bleak these days, but certain circumstances combined this past week to render the funds needed to purchase a bottle of the headlined spirit. My bottle came with a neck tag attached, and a quote from Michael Jackson, famed whiskey and beer critic. The...

    First Cider Attempt

This is my first attempt at fermenting cider. Thought the colors looked appropriate for this season. Used fresh cider from Uncle John's just south of Mt. Pleasant, MI. Two lbs of sugar, 1/2 lb of honey, and champagne yeast. Very simple, so we'll see how it works in several months.

    Cuervo Black

After all the ads on tv I went against my better judgment and bought a bottle of Jose Cuervro Black. As with other cuervo products it did not live up to the hype. I must admit it was better then there regular offerings but not by much. I would say a 4 out of 10.. Travis
