Memoir of a Novice

It would be a radioshack exclusive item. If you have a Wal-Mart you can go there. Ask them where they have their thermometers because the young kid that will probably end up being the only soul you can find will probably have no clue what a hygrometer is. I would suggest Accu-Rite if you can find them, as they are inexpensive and very accurate still.

Got my desktop huni in today!!!...FINALLY. And it gets better... unbeknownst to me, the analoge hygrometer was upgraded to a Diamond Crown Digital one.. Sweet! going to get this baby up and going over the weekend...pictures of it and coolerdor to come. I also got a bunch of singles (recomendations from the cigar shop) and two boxes (will post the in the "whate smokes did you buy today" thread.

Well you're certainly off to good start   . Looks like Brenda has some competition in the time as smoker/stash race.

BTW, how do you like those exquisitos?

thanks guys, the last couple of weeks have been a lot of fun!!

I had a couple of the Perdomos (not from this box) and I enjoyed them... rich taste.

the exquisitos are, well...exquisit! Brenda gave me one of these babies in a PIF, and i was sold from the start.

Nice collection, Spider! I'm going to have to build a coolinator too, but the wife is starting to fuss about the amount of cigars I've bought in the last 7 months. She says she doesn't get it. "How many cigars do you need?" Its going to be a battle but...I'll just have to covertly purchase them.

Stickman,
very nice, whats the cigar with the black lable with the bear paw on it????? I'm going to s l o w l y start buying the pieces of a coolinator, so It wount be so obvious

60qt cooler...$26
Cigar Oasis Xl...$99*
(2) cedar trays...$20

Having people wonder why the hell you have a cooler on it's side, plugged into the corner of your room...Priceless!

*you could arguably use Exquisicat litter "beads" instead of the Oasis ...$12 (and have enough left over for 3-4 more coolers!)

I got them at factory direct its huge 1"x10" they where supposedly rolled and produced by some famous cuban

Hey, Quag (or anyone else) I got one of those Acu Rite hygrometers. It has a wired sensor used to moniter outside temp. If I just cut that wire off, do you think the main unit will still work properly?

Stickman, your coolidor is looking great!

Well Spider, I can see that my miserable little package isn't going to make a poof in that fine collection, just put it into a corner and let it die its own miserable death.

They have become so sophisticated Red, with so many people getting into them, that they are just as good as professionally made humidors. The reason they are called coolerdors, is because everybody's always got one, two or more styrofoam coolers laying around the garage. I've got at least ten, from various Omaha Steaks deliveries through the years. I'm in the process of using them to pack up fragile collectible items so my eBay rep can come get them.

What many people, like those innovative, mostly young folks who inhabit this forum do, is take these styrofoam coolers and incorporate some of the incredible technical homemade accoutrements that the members here have been talking about. Coolerdors have tremendous advantages in that they can hold literally hundreds, or in some cases, thousands of cigars, instead of just a few dozen, and don't cost anything in the case of the styrofoam kind.

Many people who like to tinker, and have the kind of technical know how that folks like jihiggs and the others involved here obviously do, make elaborate projects, such as the ones discussed and displayed so often on this web site. In so doing, these people have contributed immeasurably to cigar culture.

oh ok, i simply got an airtight tupperwear container, humidor gel, and i call that my humidor. when i was given some nicer cigars i had to make something up so i made my tupperwear humidor.

Actually, tupperdor's are also a big time home-built project that has also been popular for many years. I know many people who could not afford a regular humidor, and did not need storage for anything more than a few cigars, and a tupperdor fit the bill perfectly. There may be some posts here that can be accessed through a search for "tupperdor" or some similar key words that could give you some rules and guidelines. I'm not familiar with them personally, but I've read a lot about them, and I understand that there are some do's and don't's about tupperdors that might help somebody who has one.

Bikeman, Your package will be very well received. I look forward to trying new sticks I have not had yet. And besides, the best part about a PIF is getting to see what someone else likes, and having the chance to share this wonderful hoby on a more personal level. A good portion of what I DO have has been from the generosity of others such as yourself, I am always greatful, and enjoy the trading.
