Memoir of a Novice

I have not had the oportunity to test it out yet, but it is designed to run as a constant room freshener, so I would think that it should run for at least a month or more. Will let you know how mine works, and how long it lasts.

i hooked up a fan to a 9v battery, was just a little graphics card fan. it only lasted 2 days lol. the fan on the oust must have a really low cfm. thats ok, for a small space it should do just fine. in a large cabinet i would recomend a more powerfull fan for sure. i have another ac/dc power adaptor thats 9 volts i think, ill probly just make a real flat wire and run it into the second humidor.

The Oust fan in my coolordor is really just to help out a little bit in the upper level that is farthest from the main unit. But you are right, it does not move a lot of air, yet it is not designed to cool, only to circulate, so should work fine for this application.... I Hope :dunno: :duh:

i think it would be funny to put a 120mm 100 cfm delta fan in it hehehe.

Hello spider, welcome to the cigar world. I've been smoking cigars for only two years now and have learned so much from this site and reading everything I can about cigars. Subscriptions to CA mag, and others. I'll say one thing here and now, the Romeo and Juliet "Bully" is one of my go to cigars, always have a couple on hand. Great cigar, but you taught me something... I never realized it had a Cameroon wrapper. How embarrassing is that? I might have known sub consciously, and never realized it cause I've always loved that cigar since I tried it. Any way, thanks for educating me on that. I hoped you liked it cause it sure is "too me" a great cigar. I love them.

With my cigar oasis i set it to 66 and i just checked the humidity and it said 76 WAYYY to high why is this i thought it was supposed to keep it at what you set it at and reccomendations?

Do you have the new one or the old one? If you have the new one are you reading the oasis? The first releases had bad hygrometers in them that varied as much as 12%. It doesn't explain why it would be different as it wouldn't run if you were going off that but if you're basing your 76 off another hygrometer it might. Understand? The old one's control knob is also very picky about where its set. What looks like it should be 70 may actually be 64. I have mine set at where the book says the 70% position is and my dead on salt tested hygro reads 65%.

Higgs, my new frigidor will have 2 120mm fans with a 79.14cfm rating. However these will only run a a few times a day for 1 minute or so as they will be hooked up to the cooling unit and only one will actually be inside the fridge. My circulation fans will be 2 80mm 32.4cfm fans. But these will also only run only maybe 1 minute per few hours.

Its the new one i might have to call the company up and see whats the deal if mabey i got the bad one.

Spider,

I just want to say thanks for stepping out on this forum. I have been learning right along with you. My favorite magazine is actually Cigar A. I love that mag.

Also, I want to thank many of the others who post reguarly brenda, capt, CC, PB, and all of the regular posters. I learn so much from you guys.

Am I the only one that checks this forum twice a day!?

CoastalTravelBiz... That's what this is all about. I figured if I was going to stumble my way through this, then there are pobably others trying also. I hope you are learning as much as I am (from others on here, at least) welcome to the forum, these guys/gals are great people!

Bob, I am with you on that.... been late getting back from lunch an many occassion due to this forum!

Which brings me to another question...hehe

I have only been smoking sticks with a rounded cap thus far (mostly robustos), but have a few belicosa or torpedo shapped ones I am dying to try (thank you Brenda and dbrad4d!) Anyway, how much do I cut off of the head? just the tip, or half of the tapered part? I have no idea. Same goes for a stick with a tapered foot.. how much do I cutt off?

Still learning,
~S

I usually prefer the torp or belicoso shapes; I cut off an area that matches the diameter of the cut from my robusto/ churchills.

Took a little practice to judge.

Also, if you have a punch cutter you can punch a hole in the cap at the end but still on the side. Keep that oriented up while smoking and it directs smoke right to the roof of your mouth. Sounds wierd but its actually nice. I don't do it often since I very very rarely have my punch though. Maybe I'll start keeping it the car or something.

Don't mind me I'm just typing to myself.

Good things come in small packages...

As I have stated before, I am mostly an outside smoker right now. So it is often difficult for me to spend 90 minutes or more smoking a good stick(especially during winter). Last night I smoked An A. Fuente Exquisitos Maduro. WOW, was I suprised by the flavor packed in this little guy! (Thank you, Brenda!) I have to say that it was a bit under humidified (still no humi) and I removed the band too soon, and damaged the wrapper a bit, it started to unravel on me about half way through. That aside, this was an incredible 30 minute smoke (also the first muduro stick I have tried...loved it!). I definately forsee a box of these little gems in my future.

P.S. My Oasis XL came in today... I can't wait to get this baby set up!!

What about the foot on a "perfeto" stick... Do you cut it, or light it like that? And if you cut it, how much do you cut?

I always light them as they are, the extra wrapper is to add flavor at the start of the stick. I usually roast it pretty good with a torch and then blow out through the stick and then draw my first puff.
If need for more fire, I roast it softly this time.

thanks guys... I would hate to have botched a potentially expensive cigar, without asking advice first.

I'm fianlly in business

Set up my Oasis XL in my coolerdor last night when I got home from work. This morning it was sitting pretty at 66%. I am still waiting for my cedar shelves to get in, and I do not have any boxed cigars yet, so I used the cigar.com box that my sampler came in. I removed the hinges and was able to make a couple of makeshift trays/shelves out of the top and bottom. Should be good untill the real shelves get here.... but they are already full. hhhhmmmm.... note to self.... *start smoking more to make room in coolerdor for more singles, and to decide on a couple of box purchases*

Once I get the shelves in and get it completely set up, I will post a couple of pics....If I can figure out how to do it, hehehe

I picked up a digital hygrometer at the local Wally World today for about $7. I put it in my coolerdor, and after about an hour it read 23% lower than my Oasis XL...lol. Now I have not salt tested my Oasis (hearing that they tend to be pretty accurate) but I have a hard time believing that you can actually buy something so out of calibration as this. I am going to salt test the new digital one, to see how bad it is, then put it back in the coolerdor for a couple of days, to get an idea where the Oasis stands. (I guess you get what you pay for)
