hehe, well that is what I thought also, but i can't believe the other is THAT far off....what a piece of crap! lol. anyway, will checkit again tomorrow to see if it is still that far off. Then salt test it just to make sure i did not pick up a defective Oasis.

Spider, where in Wally World (what section)did youy find a digital hygrometer? I've looked and cant seem to find one. I've asked and have gotten a blank stare.

Jesse, ask the robots for outside thermometers. That's were the hygrometers are. (At least here in Va.)

yes, what BP said. back in the hardware section, they had several models to choose from, I got the one by Springfield...was not impressed as my earlier posts show, but I am going to give it a little time to see if it adjusts.

I have a hard time believing your chain store hygrometer is that inaccurate so I'm almost positive its the Oasis. Even more so because Cigar Oasis outsourced the hygrometer to a company I believe in China. The ones from them were poorly calibrated and soon replaced by a second release. I would send it back and ask for the second release if the place has them. If they don't, demand a refund for them not disclosing it was a first release. Also I would contact Cigar Oasis and ask for a method to determine between the two releases.

Seven dollars seems cheap but I've seen Accu-Rites for less than 10. Those aren't bad hygrometers by any means.

After 24 hours, The digital, still in my humidor, was now only about 15% lower than the Oasis as compaired to the 23% earlier. I am now salt testing the, digitat one... will see how that goes. (I was under the impression that the XL was the new model?) I got it from cigar.com.

Well, I salt tested the digital hygrometer. After 24 for hours it read 65%

new to cigars

hi guys i am new to this forum but not new to cigars. i do not buy from cigarbid.com anymore but if you want some varity and do not want to buy boxes they have 5 packs and sampelers they are a spinoff from cigarsinternational.com if you start bidding be sure you know what you are bidding on and do not over bid. be prepaired to max out the credit card. i quit bidding when i had filled 14 humidors. they asls have very good deals on humidors and other cigar related merchandise what ever you do do not smoke a cuban cigar or you will maxout several credit cards    don't say i did not warn you/////////////

Wow, this has been fun for me. I'm new to cigars, so it's been good to learn some new stuff. I actually just ordered my first humidor tonight. I just got a cheap one from some company out of Miami, but i'm a broke college student so hopefully I won't get bitten in the but for buying cheap. I've enjoyed some good stuff so far, but my favorite has definitely been a Cuban Montecriso #2 while I was in Nassau on a cruise last week. Keep it up Spider i'm learning right along with ya!

Welcome, SouthernGentleman.

I got my cedar shelves in today, and have put them in the coolerdor. My digital "wanna be" hygrometer was about 11% low on the salt test, and seems to be hanging at about the same 11% below my Oasis, so I am guessing that the Oasis is pretty accurate. I placed an order for some heartfelt beads (65%) just for peace of mind, and to increase stability. I ordered enough to use in my desktop humi also.

Note: *I started the Oust fan today, will see how long it lasts on the first battery*

It should be a long time from what I've heard. Also, if you don't think its running, it probably is. They only push a miniscule amount of air so they really don't make any noise.

I started an Oust fan last night also! Previously, my humidor was surviving on a completely passive block of florists foam and a small container of silica gel (kitty litter). Before I went to bed I put the Oust fan in the humidor, clear on the other side from my humidification devices. When I got up this morning and checked my hygrometer...there was a huge jump in RH! I was short on time and had to run, so I just removed my humidification and turned the fan off. Crap, hope it didn't do any damage, I can't wait to get back to my humi later to check on it. I looked at another battery operated fan by Airwick that runs 1 minute and rests for 5 minutes. I'm going to try the Oust again when I can more closely monitor it...not while I'm sleeping or gone. I didn't expect such a big jump, be careful out there!

i have found that you should take your time to properly light your cigars. i remember a few occations while fishing when i lit them quik and effortlessly and ended up with a lopsided burning cigar and quistion a different taste than with a fully well rounded lit cigar.
i have also found that using a punch to cut your cigar leaves the end less cut up, and easier to smoke, if you have not used a punch, try it you might like it.

OK, I am frustrated beyond belief with this Hygrometer. Do I really have to spend $40 (diamond crown) to get a decent digital hygrometer? What brand do you suggest, and where can I get one?

get this one, i have 3 and they are all within 4% of eachother.

Thanks, jihiggs. is this a radioshck exclusive item, or can it be picked up at other stores as well? I do not live near a radioshack and they are out of stock for online ordering...

oh, the page says you will need the base, thats only to utilize the wireless reporting function. you can use them by themselves as they have the readout lcd on them.
