the new guy

howdy,

Little bit of history. i've been smoking swisher sweets and diego garcia cigars about once every couple months for about two years just with some good friends. About two weeks ago me and a buddy decided to go to a local cigar shop and buy a good one just for the heck of it. Well I don't even know what we bought but all I know is it was awesome. i didn't think much of it after that.

A week later i tried a diego garcia again, took two puffs, spit, and snuffed it out. It was horrible. It tasted like smokey ash. That was it for me. I do not know much at all about cigars so I did some research on the interent looking for sites where i could explore my soon-to-be new found hobby.

I found cigar.com, I joined the cigar of the month club in hopes of learning more about it while trying different cigars. I also ordered one of each of these for the heck of it, I knew nothing about them.

7 x 50, Natural, Nicaraguan
1 Romeo y Julieta Res.
Maduro Belicoso, 6.13 x 52, Maduro, Dominican
1 Don Diego Lonsdale, 6.5 x 42, Natural, Dominican

My favorite of these was definatley the romeo y julieta. I tried one, which I can't remember, but tasted very bitter, I could not finish it. wish I could have remembered the name of it.

Well, in my new found hobby I will continue to document and keep records of what I liked and did not.

I've read a few posts on this board and everyone seems very nice and very helpful. A humidor will be a purchase in a couple months. in the meantime, i need to figure out what cigars I like and dislike.

Matt :)

Hey Welcome Matt,
I'm new to smoking Cigars. But I would recommend the Cusano C10. You won't regret it.

That is the best part of this hobby. Although it can be costly. It seems to me like you have tried mostly meduim strength smokes. Sit down, light up, and feel free to ask as many questions as you want. As I have said before, I have learned more here in the last 2 months, than I have learned through three years of trial-and-error. Ryan

Capt, you have a recommendation? I don't know the difference between a medium streangth or strong.

Hello everyone.
My name is Chris, and I am a pharmacist in Columbus, Ohio. I've been smoking cigars now for about a year. Some of my favorites include:
Punch Gran Puro Pico Bonito
Acid Blondie
Casa Blanca Reserve No. 4
Montecristo Serie V

My wife and I just had a beautiful baby boy two weeks ago, so I've committed myself to not smoking in the house or around him. I will usually have a cigar when I'm washing the car or taking a walk in our neighborhood. I wish I had time to finish a cigar but things are usually a little hectic. I have a few friends who smoke cigars and we are always looking for great, new cigars to try.

Never mind that… does The Plank have a smoking section?

Is The Plank even still around?

Hey everybody!
I'm a student in Boston, MA, persuing my Bachelor of Science degree.
I'm also a new cigar smoker, my favorites so far being the Ashton Coronas and the Onyx Reserve Robustos.
(I had an Avo No. 2 yesterday, found it harsh, generally unpleasant, and the wrap was *terrible* i suspect it had been sitting around my tobaccanist's for a while, seemed really dry.)
Pretty soon i'm going to have to build myself a humidor... i'm enjoying cigars entirely too much, and dont have anywhere near enough money to actually BUY one

Anyway, Hi! 8)

Greetings one and all. My name is Mark, I live in San Jose Ca. I'm in the Glass/Remodeling industry. I've just begun smoking cigars this last year. I only have two or three a week. I enjoy the CAO, Kahlua, and John T's<--(local)brands. Being the "newby" I'm more into the flavored, and mild cigars. However, I'm definitely looking forward to experimenting with new brands, etc.

Welcome to the forum, SJ Mark. You wouldn't happen to be related to a fella by the name of Marker's, would ya?
