I had to go to the Hooter's there downtown ( I stayed at the Westin, about a block from the ballfield). The ladies were nice, and I was able to smoke an Onyx 1997 Vintage at the bar. The only problem? They serve only Anheiser-Busch products...no whisky for me :(

Hello all,

I guess this was the best place to post my first message. I have been lurking here on this wonderful forum for a couple months now. what a great resource of cigar knowledge and useful tidbits of information. I live in Northern California and enjoy smoking 4-5 cigars a week. Some of my current favorites are:

Rocky Patel 1990
Partaga Black Label
La Perdoma Private Reserve
Gurkha El Duke
and my new favorite for now is the 5 Vegas Series A...YUMMY!!!

Anyways, I look forward to chatting with you guys and gals.

Jeremy

stp900, those are excellent selections you have!

How is that Master Select El Duke compared to the other Gurkhas?

So far, I haven't had a Gurkha that I didn't like.

It's nice to see all the new members around here, welcome guys :)

stp900, for the past year I lived in San Francisco while attending a culinary academy. Although I lived in one of the worst parts of the city I miss it greatly and look forward to returning to teach one day.
When I first moved up there I didn't think I would like it as much since I thought I was spoiled living in SoCal for the past 7 years. But I will always have a special place in my heart for Northern California.

Nice choice in sticks Jeremy

Doc, the El Duke was a nice surprise. The Gurkha girls (reps) were at a local cigar shop here locally in Sacramento. They gave me a free sample of the Ancient Warrior, maduro. This was in similar fashion to the El Duke. I smoked that baby down to the nub. Like you Doc, I have yet to find a Gurkha that I havent enjoyed completely. I also just purchased the one day deal last week from cigar.com, a whole bunch of Gurkha's. Lovin it.

Axe, nice to hear from another Nor Cal cigar smoker. Sacramento is about an hour and change from the city by the bay. Good luck to you on your teaching career in the culinary arts. Have you found a nice pairing of a meal and then a cigar after? After a hearty meal, I love me a nice Rocky Patel.

Good hearing from you guys.

Jeremy, welcome to the forum. Looks like the West Coast is getting almost as big as the Mid-West...... NOT!!!

Actually, my teaching career won't start until I have many years in the culinary world in the books. I'd like to have something interesting to say when students ask me "so what have you done to call yourself a chef!"

I'm always trying to pair wine, cigars, and food for the perfect meal. Unless you have a palate cleanser such as a sorbet, never smoke a mild one after a meal since you won't discern much taste from the cigar. A spicy meal requires a full-bodied stick with spice in its own right to hit the taste buds more than the meal did.

As an example, last night's meal consisted of:

Vichyssoise
Deep fried wild mushroom & truffle risotto balls
French onion soup
Osso Bucco alla Milanese
Espresso sorbet
(my brother requested this menu for his last meal before heading back up to Berkeley today, and of course I was happy to oblige.)

The sorbet in this case was more of a dessert rather than a cleanser, so I went with a Bolivar Belicosos Finos which I've enjoyed on occasion with a cup of coffee. The pairing was a good one.

1) Eat nothing but ramen and soup
2) If you absolutely have to buy clothes, Goodwill is suprisingly very fashionable
3) Get wasted on cheap liquor before heading out to the bar
4) Work Work Work

Works well if you not a student too!!!

Welcome to the forum, I think we'll get along just fine
I was thinking the same thing!

Welcome, CONVERSECRICKET!

I, too, love all of those! Welcome, Jeremy.

Hello all. Just got into cigars a couple months ago and have been trolling these boards quite a bit for all the usefull info. I figured i might as well thank all you guys and introduce myself at the same time...

I'm 23 years old. I live in a small town in Indiana. Getting married this Saturday actually. I enjoy riding my motorcycle, weightlifting, and of course smoking a good cigar. My personal favorite atm is the RP vintage 92.

Hope to talk to all you guys later!

Thanks Brenda for the very enthusiastic welcome :)

Congrats on getting married Fatkid. My next smoke will be in honor of your very special occasion.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I will post a link to our photographers site so you can see some pics from the wedding. She said she'd have it up next week sometime. She also said she took about 1,400 pictures so there should be plenty to look at. Catch you guys later!

I really didn't have a lot of time to sit down and enjoy a cigar until the day after. I had a Padron 3000 and CAO MX2 the next evening after dinner tho to make up for it.

If anyone is interested in looking at pictures here is the site:

None of the pictures are labeled but hopefully you guys can figure out who at least me and my wife are.

Welcome Fatkid! Congrats on the wedding...and remember: HAPPY WIFE HAPPY LIFE! 8)
