Welcome to the forum DD. You bring up an interesting question. I know that at Cigar.com there is a cigar 101 section that answers a lot of questions but would it possibly be a good idea to start a "sticky" thread devoted to newbie questions, as a reference guide for the new and not so new folks here? :?: It could possibly prevent a lot of repeat threads while at the same time serving as a storage thread for a lot of the usual questions that pop up.

Just an idea and please don't feel that I bought this up because of you DD, this has been kicking around in my head for a while now. I hope you ask anything you need to be answered, it is after all, the only way to do things the right way, I know personally I have learned a ton of knowledge from the friendly folks here.

Hope you enjoy the forum and once again, welcome.

One quick piece of advice, buy a bigger humidor. 8)

Thanks Cloudy and Kuzi, I appreciate it.

So far, I've found some important things.

1) The temperature in your humidor is as important as the humidity. I had mine in my living room, where the digital thremo was reading 76 degrees. I've since moved it to my basement, where its around 69 degrees.
2) My humidity may be too high. Mines around 71-73%. I have some beads, but I'm not even sure where they came from. So, I ordered some 65% beads from Heartfelt Industries.
3) High humidity may be why some of my cigars were burning from the inside out (the wrapper stopped burning at the half way point, but the inside was still smoking)?
4) I should try some new cigars (already started). Smoking the same two for the last fifteen years is a little narrow minded.
5) I need a bigger humidor

Welcome to all of the new members. Double D, My humidity in my three desktops are at 64%. In my cabinet it is 63% on top, and 68% on the bottom shelves. You humidity is too high for the cigars.

Welcome, new folks!

Twoputts, Esqualo, Mr. Slate, skinsmacker, thl0613, gonzo, Cyclist, double D. . . Welcome!

new guy

First post just to give my intro.

I'm a middle-aged guy residing near Dallas TX who has smoked cigarettes for too many years. :x

I only recently got into good cigars compliments of a nice fella I work with from time to time. He also turned me on to this group of fine, upstanding folks.

In my younger years I tried a few Dutch Masters and the like. I really didn't like. :D

I'm learning quickly as I read what is suggested here.

I look forward to getting in on PIF or maybe some Fun and Games soon.

I don't yet have any favorites but I'm willing to spend some time looking for some!

Welcome aboard!

First time poster, so a little bio:

Recent college grad with only 3 years of cigar smoking experience. First cigar (if you can call it one) was a Garcia Vega from a local grocery store and my first box was the Arturo Fuente Rothchild Maduro with my last box being the OpusX Perfecxion No. 4 (happened to be in the right place at the right time).

Fortunately I've moved up since the Garcia Vega with my favorites being the Ashton VSG, Gurkha Master Selects, and the OpusX. For everyday smokes I've always enjoyed the Arturo Fuente Rothchilds or Churchills and lately have included the Punch Robusto Maduro.

I enjoy smoking, learning about and appreciating cigars. And in case you're wondering on how a college student could afford to smoke the way I have, all you have to do is follow this very simple formula:

1) Eat nothing but ramen and soup
2) If you absolutely have to buy clothes, Goodwill is suprisingly very fashionable
3) Get wasted on cheap liquor before heading out to the bar
4) Work Work Work

...and soon you too can enjoy premium smokes on a college budget.

Welcome Conversecricket! You will learn much here from the great people of this forum.

Works well if you not a student too!!!

Welcome to the forum, I think we'll get along just fine

Welcome aboard!

Where were you 2 days ago, I was JUST in ST. Louis on Monday and Tuesday....

Thanks for the very warm welcome folks.

rmrdaddy: Hey, I'd welcome any social smoke at this point. Most of my friends are either finishing school or decided to stay in their college towns...not to mention most of them don't smoke. Thank goodness for St. Louis Cigars Club. Only place I know of in town where you can buy a stogie and smoke it in the same place.
