Bought a 50 ct humidor (which after reading through some threads it seems like it may be too small)

We'll just call that an understatement  . Welcome aboard!

Greetings all. My name is Trent and I've been lurking around here for a bit. Finally decided to register and introduce myself. I live in Waconia, MN and am 36 years old, married with 3 sons aged 8 and a half, one who just turned 7, and a third that is 11 days old today.

I started smoking cigars about 18 years ago when I was 18 and on a High School trip as a senior. We flew out to the East Coast and then rode around in a bus for a while, took a ferry up into Canada for some business conference or something. About 2 blocks away from the Hotel there was this tiny hole in the wall cigar shop in some back alley. I was 18 at the time and fairly green but this place was impressive once you went inside with a majority of it being walk in humidor. Well myself and several of my friends spent the next 3 days making frequent trips to this shop and buying all sorts of different sticks. I have no idea what any of them were but I enjoyed every bit of it.

I continued to enjoy smoking Cigars in college, at first they were hard to come by but by the second or third year there the Cigar craze hit. Then you could find them everywhere, bars and liquor stores were installing large humidors, placing them on checkout counters and you could find just about anything. But of course the prices doubled, even tripled and quadrupled in some cases. My consumption definitely decreased but the enjoyment didn't. Quite a change when back then the bars were encouraging smoking by promoting their humidors and now you can't even smoke in a bar anymore.

I still consider myself a newbie and feel I have a lot to learn. While I've been smoking in the past I never paid a lot of attention to what I was smoking or the differences in a smoke. A lot of times my roomie and I would buy a box and smoke the whole thing, then buy another box, rinse and repeat. So I never really compared one to the other, I just enjoyed the moment. But lately I've been buying more samplers and trying some different cigars and trying to pay attention to what I'm smoking. I can't really say I have a favorite, I enjoy a lot of the "mid-level" smokes but I am going to start branching out into some of the more high end smokes. I have a lot yet to try and I'm looking forward to it. I do have to say that a friend of a friend got me several Q*Ban Cohibas a few weeks ago and I just smoked one this past week and it was probably the best smoke I've ever had. I am fighting the urge to smoke the other one so I can let it age, who knows if I'll win that battle.

Right now I have a 50 ct humidor that's packed to the top and a 300ct that should be here any day. I already know the line.... it won't be big enough. I've already been eyeing the 28 bottle wine fridge and have a feeling it won't be too long until I need one of them. For now I'll try to keep it under 350.

Looking forward to getting to know you all and participating in some trading and other events to expand my horizons.

All Right Trent!

It's funny, I'm on the East Coast and you in Minnesota, yet it looks like you and I have traveled down some of the same roads when it comes to the experience with cigars.

Please post up with cigar reviews, new purchases, questions, etc.. and definitely get into the PIF and Fun and Games threads. You may not have done it intentionally, but you have stumbled onto a forum with some of the best people around.

So, Welcome aboard!

(and I have to ask...can I call you Double Down?) :cryinlaugh:

Hey Everyone,
My name's Alex Evans, and I'm from South Carolina. I'll be a freshman at Clemson in a couple of weeks, and a couple of buddies and me have fallen in love with cigars over the past year. The selection in Greenville isn't too great, but we've got a couple of good stores and frequent trips to Atlanta and Charlotte have yielded some great buys.

I guess, I would have to say I'm a big fan of a full-bodied/robusto type smoke, and some of my favorites so far include:
a lot of the CAOs
Gurkas(especially the Legend)
Padrons
and by far my favorite, the handrolled cigars in one of the shops in downtown Greenville.

I'd love some advice on new types to try, looking for both robustos and milder smokes to enjoy on the golf course. Thanks for all your help.

Sorry I have slacked here, but I wanted to welcome all of the new members to the forum. Its a fun, relaxed atmosphere, with alot of stand-up people. Make yourself at home, you are welcome here. Read through some old posts, or flip through the cigars 101 section. If you have a question that you do not see on the forum, do not hesitate to ask away. I am sure you will be overwhelmed with responses.

Hello Fellas.

My name is Eddy and I'm from Jacksonville FL.

I first was introduced to cigars from my pops and his friends smokin' occasionally on weekend camping trips etc.

About 6 years later, I'm 20 years old and I smoked my first cigar in the Keys just this summer (partagas cifuentes I believe). I've always liked the smell of cigars and I wanted to give them a shot recently, so I leaped into them.

We (my dad and I) took out the old humidor, dusted it off, and started toying around with it to get it back into shape (it hadn't been used in quite some time).

Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to keep the humidity stable with an old gauge that I'm not even sure is in working condition.

Our humidor is filled with Gurkha Grand Reserves, (my dad thought they looked special with the waxy look, haha) CAO Catalysts, SLRs, CAO 2x's?, Quentaro, Padrons, and a few old cigars from way back when (no labels anymore).

My favorite smoke so far has been a Gurkha Ancient Warrior Double Maduro. It was really smooth and almost sweet tasting.

The Grand Reserves give off a VERY good aroma unlit. We are waitin for a special occasion to light those up.

I have found myself enjoying the darker colored cigars more than the lighter color so far. This might be only because the first cigars I smoked were lighter in color, and I wasn't as accustomed to the world of cigars yet.

I have read a few threads about the lighting and storage and the "blowing out" techniques and I seem to be enjoying cigars more and more.

I hope to gain as much information as possible and share with all of you my opinions on cigars as well as hear from yours.

Thanks,
Eddy

Hello!

Hey everyone. I am new to this board and new to this little hobby known as cigar smoking.
I am a medic in the US Army. I am married, no kids but I have 2 dogs. I don't know a whole lot about cigars yet but I do know I like some Padrons and Hemmingways. I am working on a coolidor right now and am also working on filling it up. I just ordered a Vegas 5 sampler when I ordered my Cigar Oasis from C.com and I am thinking about getting some of those Rocky Patel Segundos. I guess thats all. God Bless

Hell Everyone,

My name is Bill, I have been living in the Phonix area now for 4 years moving here from southern calif.

I got into cigars on new years eve 2001 when i threw a party and bought all of the men a stogie because i knew they smoked but i didn't at the time. I smoked my first stick and eventually bought a humidor smoking 1 or 2 sticks a month until a coworker moved here from Chicago a year ago who smokes more and now I find myself smoking every weekend not really having time on weekdays due to the amount of hours i work.

I have acquired some very helpful info from you and look forward to learning more as well as contributing to the forum.

I knew nothing about C.com until about 3 months ago and since then my god have i spent a lot of money since then and keep wanting to spend more.

So far my favorite sticks are CAO Gold, CAO Cameroon, C.com Cameroon, there is a Arturo Fuente that I like alot but i only know it when i see so I dont know the name of it.

Thanks
Bill
