Sunday Morning Smoke

Status
Not open for further replies.
Good morning gents, I smoked a bowl of Trout Stream this morning while sitting outside in the cold watching the rain. I put two pork shoulders on the grill last night around 9:30 and they smoked all night and all morning, until I took them off at one. BUT back to SNL, I haven't watched SNL since the early glory days in the 78s. But recently I've been streaming/downloading old 70s and 80s "classic" comedies for my 15 year-old son to watch. Caddyshack, Ghostbusters, Vacation(s), etc. He liked them so much (no accounting for taste, I guess it's hereditary) that I thought I'd try him on some SNL. I d/led the first five seasons over a month ago and he has not stopped watching them sense. Watched them completely through twice and is now just going through and selecting random episodes. I think his favorites are Gilda Radnor and Bill Murray, surprisingly.

Just like when he discovered my 13 disk set of Monty Python disks, the only way to get him to stop is to remove/hide them!

Vince, you're confusing me with the cigars here. If I don't see Don Carlos #3 in the post, I get all mixed up. Oh wait, I already AM all mixed up, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Cigar #2 was the camacho but cigar #1 was the DC#3, sorry for the confusion but it goes with the snifter of the single malt & the coffee !!!!

Good morning , it is Sunday ,24 Jan.'10 , well the big question is it twenty ten or two thousand ten? , WHO CARES a two oh ten , what ever , well its raining here in da Burgh a welcome sight, you dont have to shovel the rain, we had about 12 days in a row or so of snow, my wife is realy tired of shoveling the stuff, me I just shovel BS hahahaha , brakfast this morning was a real nice hunk of slab bacon sliced thick, & I made a dippy egg for the boss, she likes the white crisp on the bottom but the yoke needs to be liquid , so i seperate them start the white first then add the yoke after the white has set a bit, its hard to keep the yoke centered & a real bitch to NOT BREAK IT , but she was happy with hers & I had scrambled eggs ( from all the ones I messed up trying to get hers just right ) , well with all the rain this morning I havent had my Sunday morning Don Carlos #3 yet or my Kona , but the kona is in the French press & the water is on the boil so I will have coffee in a few minutes , right now I am sipping a mug of Moca Java from the local coffee roaster , he is expanding his operation to roasting peanuts , almonds & cashuew , making fresh nut butters , & he asked me to do the voice for his new radio spots , I told him I would be glad to , all I need was a pound of 100% kona , & some almond butter, Done deal, now all I need to do is wait for the rentvations to the shop, get the new roaster installed & working , & then I can collect my payment , , but he hasnt given me a script yet so I have nothing to worry about, untill I get it on tape, , I will be looking for the right music for the background , , so Vintage 50's rock, "Peanut butter", or "I like bread & butter"or even a ole blue eyes recording of the coffee song , "they got a lot of coffee in Brazil ", I have no idea what I might find when I start looking through the arcives , I might find one of my old banjo recordings hahahaha , back in the day when I was MCing a few Blues acts in the area I would strap on the old tenor banjo, & threaten to play it if they didnt tip the waitress & cheer for the band , "Alabama jubalee"is not the right song for this crowd of blues lovers .......... the shop has been super SLOW this past week, I didnt get paid , thats how slow it is , i went through 4 pots of coffee on friday, the place was full but everyone just bought A single cigar & smoked it & left, the place was full all night but the sales were so far down I dont know what to do, if it keeps up like this i will need to cut out the help & put in more hours my self, & I dont want to do that , I want to get more help & work less hours ( for the same amount of pay hahahaha ) but dammmmm when there isnt enough cash to pay me , how do I pay some one else? , yes we will ship, but I cant compete with the big on line places , they buy a truck load at a time , I get a few boxes here & there , they all give freebees & I have to pay for them ,,,, well the idea of opening up was never to go head to head with the mail order guys, I just give you a place to smoke relax sip a little coffee & BYOB , just like being at home with out your wife yelling about the cigar smoke , & so far its been working out OK, but about last August the sales went down & have stayed down, , we still get a nice crowd on Friday nights as soon as HS football is over , but the rest of the week is getting thinner & thinner , anyone out there want to make a BIG cash infusion for a small % of the bottom line ? hahahahaha

The boys are with there father this weekend so nothing to report with them, I was going to take one to a Paino concert but I went home early last wed. & slept a few extra hours, sore all over, joints creeking mussels stiff & sore dammmm if i would have known I was going to live this long I might have taken better care of this body & not worn it out so fast ! haha!

I have some bonless pork cuttlets that will be heading to the stew pot soon, a little onion, garlic, carrots ,celery & tomato , some brown rice & a little stock ,white wine , a bay leaf, & who knows what ever else fall out of the pantry , I think I will even make a little whole grain bread as i will have the oven on , should be ready about 4 PM if your in the area stop in for a bite ........ right now I will be heading out to the Qtr.deck & turn on the heat , come back in start the pork & get chummy with the boss for a few minutes or untill the chill is gone from the Qtr.deck, & she tells me for the last time to let her alone so she can read the Sunday paper hahahahah ahhh yes wedded bliss hahaha, we did go to the movie yesterday saw the
movie with Steve Martin,Meryell Streep & Alec Baldwin , called
"It's Complicated ", Funny in parts slow in others , nothing to win any awards but it did kill a saturday afternoon , then we went to applebees for a disapointing supper , as it always is at applebees, mass production food, No SOUL, NO LOVE , just average at best , no smoking , lots of little kids loud sports on all the TV's & all on different stations, hard to have a conversation with the wife , hahaha Yea just what I want to do hahahaha , last time I was there I said never again, well looks like I went back, & said NEVER AGAIN , AGAIN ! , I waited for a refill on my coffee for 10 minuts, , I ordered a cup of chili & it never showed up, till desert was almost over , I told the server no thanks but it was on the bill, , NO way will I go back , untill the boss wants to go again hahahaha
I have a Camacho trippple maduro set out for this afternoon , right now the Don Carlos #3 is calling me , & I have a candella robusto thats been sitting in the humidor a few days , a gift from a Buddy who just came back from Tampa , its been a long time since I had a candella wrapper, so it might get fired up before the Camacho , yea probably will, might even go before the #3 , Hummmm maybe , depends on my mind set when i get to the Qtr.deck & what I pour to go with the coffee hahahahaha
Enjoy, Vince

Yeah Vince, every time I eat anything out other than good old Noo Yawk pizza, I'm disappointed. Not only that, but why bother? It costs a lot more to eat out, and with what you know how to cook, and with what I've learned, and am learning, it's home cooking or no cooking. But if breakfast happens to be a 28 oz. container of Haagen Dazs Java Chip with a 7 oz. box of Nature's Promise Key Lime White Chocolate Chip cookies, like it was on Championship Sunday, well then, no problem, no disappointment there, hawwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!

Sorry to hear about the cigar shop. I sure wish I could help, but I'm practically going to be an indentured servant for at least the next two years of my life, so I can't even buy a bottle of Jim Beam right now, and it ain't as cheap as it used to be, hee, hee, heee!!!

One thing I do know about Vince though. If it has anything to do with his voice, he WILL succeed. YES, HE CAN!!! Wow. After talking to each other on the net for nearly the past ten years, exchanging a few packages here and there, the best I've done is just missed him while in the shower and getting ready for work, or something like that. But I did get him on my answering machine, and there's no question about why our Resident Old Navy Cook was on the radio as far back as 1657. This man has a voice that could charm the president out of The White House.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I did use my voice to charm the pants off the lady who is now my wife ! hahahaha ( and others BEFORE her )

GGGOOOOOD MorMOR MORNING, BURRRRRRRRRR its Cold here in da Burgh Minus 5 last night, the last day of Jan. for 2010, we have a blanket of white all over the place, & last nights Full Moon was spectular on the snow, reminded me of Christmas's past & the poem "'Twise the night before Christmas", you know the one I am talking about , , well it was a Photo worthy evening even if it did freeze the balls off of the brass monkey , we did get a cigar ride in , be it short, last night was a Graycliff corona & a cup of Charbuck$ finest decafe, now theres an oxie-moron ! hahaha ( if I need to explane that one, send a note attached to the back of a nice new 20 dollar bill & a return post paid envelope for the explination )
well if its Sunday it must be Beef for the Boss yep she wants pot roast again, , dammmm getting her out of that rut is harder than I thought it would be , yea for a few weeks it was working but we are right back to the sunday beef , so what ever she wants she gets , its SOOO much easyer that way !!!!
breakfast this morning was a bacon & chedder omlet with a few slices of hot house tomato & a great slab of fruit & nut bread, , , almost like a fruitcake but the same stuff in a heavy whole wheat bread dough , with out the rum & brandy of the fruit cake , LOTS OF FIBER in this bad boy , hahahah & I need the fiber hahahahaha , I think I might go on a sawdust diet to get things moving hahahahaha , dammmm its tuff getting OLD , didnt get a chance to interact with the grandsons this week, & dammmm I do miss it , but with the cold & lack of time we just didnt get any PLAY TIME with after school activitys & me going to the shop & there mother having issues with me taking them out in the sub freezing to go sled riding , after dark,,, well it just didnt happen ..
I pulled the cork on a Laphroaig Qtr.Cask , dammmm its Great, so much smoke in the glass, it was briney , & went so well with the Camacho trippple maduro I had to have an other !!!!! , & that reminds me I need to stock up on cigars here at home , the count is way down , I havent made a MAJOR restocking of the home bound humidor in a few years now & it is looking shabby, I counted 4 empty humidors & a few almost empty ones , I need stock in the shop, sales are way off from last year ( about 60% off from the year before last ) & thats a real ball buster .... but I have smoked through my stash & need to replace it asap, they need time to rest before they step up to the cutter & lighter, speaking of stepping up, I was tuned in to Cigar Dave last night , & dammm he realy ticked me off , going on & on about forgetting his cell phone, dammm let go , you dont need to have an umbilical cord between you & your phone, dammm I grew up with a party line phone in the living room, ,, & my parents grew up with out a phone, yea classmates of Alexander Gramm BELL hahahaha , so in 2 generations we have grown to NEED to be connected, dammm I havent even got my FIRST cell phone , & my grandsons are on there second or third, one of them has a phone that will surf the web, he never needs to use the computer at all he carries it with him every where, has a phone & camera to record everything , dammm to me that OVERLOAD, , gone are the days of hauling arround the Nikon SLR & cassette recorder hahahahaha , now its all in the shirt pocket , I thought about it but the dammm phone screen is to small , but this new I pad, well if it had a phone in it , well maybe, it is big enough to read , but a phone that big , I dont know, but if I ever do break down & get a cell phone it will be like the communicators on the ORGINAL StarTrec , or maybe a pen like the man from Uncle had , I dont think many of you young people remember the man from uncle , but trust me it was a great show for its time , ahhhh yes the 1960's ,,,, seams just like yesterday , & speaking of yeasterday I saw a BONANZA , rerun , Pa, adam, hoss & little joe, the adds were for the new Chevy Impala , dammmm it brought back some great memeroies of my buddys Impala & the BIG back seat , & pantys hanging from the rear view mirror ....... OH to be young again, , Now I need a big bed , couch or even floor & a warm shower after hahahaha , that stuff in the car well I guess it might be OK in a pinch, but dammmm I didnt climb to the top of the food chain to eat rice & veggies the rest of my life, so why should I denie my self the comforts of a hotel or even my home , the sex in the car thing is for the kids & when you feel like a kid hahahaha lately I havent felt like a kid , dammmm , BUT I still think like one hahahaha
with the cold smap we have been having I am passing on the Qtr.Deck today, , I will be heading to the shop for a Sunday afternnon smoke as soon as I get the beef in the hot box
This morning first pot was a new one from Hallowed grounds in New Brighton Pa , a coffee med.dark roasted from High in the mountains called Panama Red , verry nice cup, a some what natual sweetness to it that is rather enjoyable , it went well with the eggs, but I have the kona in the press pot & will be brewing it asap, & the cigar will be the STANDARD of Sunday Morning , A DON CARLOS #3, still looking for a replacement but so far the search is still in full swing.........Thought I might have found a replacement for it , but the supply line of the ISOM Partigas series D #4 is kind of fragel & not to mention expencive, & the Cigar of the year the Padron @ 28 buks retail is just way to far out of sight to make that an every day starting smoke , well if I hit the lottery for 100 Millon I might think about that one hahhahaha
looks like its time for me to get the beef ready , get some pants & a shirt on & fire up the DC # 3 , Enjoy, Vince

Yeah, and don't forget Get Smart! with the shoe phone, the Cone Of Silence, all that other good stuff. It certainly is winter here in NYC, but that's what December 21-March 21 is all about. WINTER!!! The Four Seasons. Enjoy them. And don't forget their smash hits like Dawn, Walk Like A Man and Sherri, hawwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!

By the way folks, in case I can't get to a computer next Sunday, . . .

Saints - 23
Colts - 17

That's right. I'm picking the Who Dat over The Horsy Set. I know, I know, NEVER, EVER, EVER, bet against Peyton in a must win game. Hey, who said I was betting, I"m just picking. I don't gamble, and if I did, I don't have the dough anyway.

Good morning , it is Sunday 7 Feb.2010 ( Super Bowl Sunday ) the Sunday AFTER the 4th largest snow fall in history here in da Burgh , I stuck the yard stick & there were 27 inces of snow but I had a snow drift as high as my head , there was over 32 inches on the top of my car, , but a lot of that was wind blown, we went out just after noon with broom & shovel in hand it was 26F according to the national weather broadcasts on the noaa radio network @ 162.550 mh on the weather alert radio we have ... well they were calling for 6 to 10 inches , I say they were off just a weeee bit hahahahawell we took a brake at 3 & again at 5 & didnt get finished till 7:30
THERE IS A TON OF SNOW HERE. , went to sleep fast , slept soundly all night & at 6AM the call of nature woke me , time to Pee , dammmmmmm I was comfortable & warm, BUT I had to get up & that when it hit me, dammmmmmm the only thing that isnt hurting is my hair , it pains me to lift a coffee cup this morning & we have an other storm heading here tue. & wend., with an other 3 to 5 inches called for , damm I have no idea where we will put it , the pile of snow is over my head arround the drive way , the walk way to the Qtr.Deck is clear as we used it as a warming station yeasterday when we were cleaning out the mess mother nature left us , & I did have a nice cigar or 2 when we were finished, I poured my self a POT of coffee & a weeee dram of my hooch that was distilled last week, , thursday if I recall hahahaha , so I sat in the Qtr.Deck, listened to NPR for the new from Lake Wobegone & when it was over I tuned in Cigar Dave on a station out of Youngstown Ohio , , long ashes to you general...
well as I was enjoying a Maduro Hemmingway classic , taking stock of all the streched mussels & tendons , I was hoping for a good night sleep & a good day today, well I got the good sleep, but dammmmm I HURT BIG TIME today , I am way to old to be doing this stuff, & Barb isnt in any better place in her old age than I am , no kids in the area who want to make a buck anymore, they sit on the couch & play x box , the grandsons were with there dad, so I didnt get to use child labor this snow fall dammmm , hey ...... 12 & 14 now, big enough to help, & earn a few bucks
we didnt get the shop open till 5 Pm saturday , there was so much snow no one was out & about, side walks were covered, the parking lot needed plowed & no one was out anyhow , but when I called in last night there were 5 guys stitting & smoking , but sales were still slow, damm guys keep bringing there own , , I gotta figure out a way to stop it , , I understand if the cigar you like is something I dont have on the shelf, like Davidoff or God Of Fire , but if your smoke is an excaliber , damm I have them, , so you get them on line, well smoke them on line , I have a monthly nut to crack, lights heat water cable tv & nice leather chairs to pay for not to mention FREE COFFEE , , BUY something even if you dont smoke it now, I dont want to be a prick but dammmm I dont want to close the doors , & then both of us will be unhappy, so SPEND a buck or 2 at your local B&M shops .....
I will be making chicken & rice today, , forgot to get the hunk of beef out of the freezer & the chicken will defrost fast & be in the oven before the hunk of beef would be defrosted ........ I was in a chicken mood anyway, I had thought about frying, but thats to much work, brown it , put it in the oven to finish, a little rice & bingo , its DONE , I will be heading out to the Qtr.deck soon to turn on the heat there is a Don Carlos #3 & pot of kona calling my name , BUT first I want to get in the shower, & drain all 75 gallons of hot water from the tank & loosen up all the tight joints sore gluts & stiff knees , from the top of my head to the soles of my feet the only thing that isnt hurting is my hair hahahahaha , I think that retirement appartment is looking better & better all the time , no grass to cut, no snow to move , BUT no room to smoke , well theres always the drive to the shop, but I like a little nip & a nap at times & want to be at home for the nap hahahahaha , I wonder if I could just move the Qtr.deck to the roof of the apt.building ? hummmm gotta check in to that !
Super bowl party will start at the shop some time today, as far as I know there might be a few there starting to drink all ready, or they might still be there from last night , getting a BIG jump on the booze, & dont forget the BIG halftime toilet flush, according to some Burocratic in DC more toilets are flushed during half time than any other time in the year, NOW WHO PAID FOR THAT STUDDY ? we sucker s thats who , your BIG Government at work. , we need more people like Ross Perot & Jessie the Governer Ventura , INDEPENDENTS , not party hacks , well before I get off on that ball of wax , I better get this BS posted, not that anyone ever reads this BS or has much to comment but for a few people who do , I need the therapy of expounding my week, it is a good way to share the trials & tribulations of life in a small town with only one cigar shop & not enough customers ..... I was thinking of installing a shoe shine chair, I used to slap a mean rag when i was in the Navy , BUT no one wheres shoes that need a shine anymore, nikes just dont need polished !!
Enjoy, Vince

Don't ever stop the therapy, Vince. You are widely read, and as long as I'm alive and well, I'll be here, reading and posting back.

Yeah, nobody shovels any more, and nobody knows how to give an old fashioned shoe shine. Man, I remember as recently as the 80's, when "shoeshine boys" still worked the streets of NYC. Whatever happened? Never mind. I know what happened. If anybody else wants to know what happened, and what's likely to happen, there's some clues in an interesting thread I just put up in General Discussion in the regular forum about worldwide slavery. It IS coming, don't kid yourselves. In the meantime, we always have Papa Vince to give us Wit And Wisdom From Da Burgh.

And as for that Super Bowl, my prediction wasn't far off. I said Saints, 23-17. NO ONE thought the Colts would score only 17 points, even people who picked the Saints, and not many did that either.

Sorry you have no kids to do any work for you, Vince. Too bad I don't live closer. Maybe the next time there's going to be a big snowstorm, we can all have a shoveling party at Vince's shop. The catch is, you have to buy three cigars from the shop, THEN drink all his coffee, and THEN go shovel his house out from under, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Good morning , it is Sunday , 14 Feb.2010, the Anniversery of the beheading of father valintine hey them roman emporers didnt mess arround , you do some thing bad , like marry a guy & his girlfriend when he was in the army just so he didnt get deployed to england, well you pay the price, OFF with his head, , Valintine, a priest /bishop , was a rebel in his time defing the ceaser , back then if you were married with a family you didnt get sent off on some war , you stayed at home with your family, so a lot of soldgers were getting hitched & Valintine was the man of the cloth doing the ceromies , well the emporer got wind of the breaking of the Dont Marry any one in the army rule he had decreed , but val just kept it up & so on Feb 14 , he was seperated at the sholders by an AX,then all that lovey dovie BS found its way into the greating card companys & bingo a Holiday to suck out more money for flowers, candy & other BS stuff that just Drains the cash reserves , so this year I was ready, a Card a sented candle,(peach-ginger) a new snow shovel for her, hahahaha, yep how romantic, 40 plus years of Valintines day & she gets a shovel, hahaha dammm I am running out of ideas hahahaha , well she liked the candle & the card anyway , now that the shovel has a big dent the shape of my head , I dont think the store will take it back hahahahaha , ouch that hurts when I laugh , & speaking of snow, well last time I checked we have about 30inches on the ground at the bird feeder , we got hit mid week with a few more inches & the same is all ready in the pipeline to hit here Monday afternoon, with an other 3 inches plus, GLOBIL WARMING MY @$$.

we had a slow week at the shop but ONE Great day for sales, looks like a few income tax returns were filed & cashed, as we sold 4 boxes one day , you know I dont think its a good way to make a sale, we did discount the boxes , & thats OK, but then the guy will not be in the shop every day to pick up a cigar of 2 ,no BS time , just grab a box & out the door, I enjoy the BS & the comming & going of our daily smokers, they come in about the same time every day have a cigar or 2 BS a lot , sip a little coffee , chug a little wine or scotch, what ever , a place to hang out & relax, sure I can do it at home but I dont have any one to BS to at home, I get talked to at home but I never get a chance to add any input to the conversation , you know what I am all about & she has her say I what ever I have to say , I say it here on Sunday morning ! , its the only time at home I can say anything I want with out being told I AM WRONG hahahaha , the Temp in the Qtr.Deck is 28F this morning, by 1 /1:30 it should be up to 65/70 & I will be relaxing in my stress free enviorment , cut off from the world till the phone rings anyhow ! , I will be making a PORK Roast , today, pork , the other beef hahahaha , I will be doing it with apples & prunes, , Prunes my grandson asked whats a prune? , I show him OH a dryed Plum, , ??? when did they change the name, to dryed plums? is the word PRUNE a bad way of saying you need fiber in your diet? hahahaha , are we going to start calling raisins ,dry grapes? this politicaly correct BS , has got to go a Prune is a prune, NOT a dry plum, STUPIDITY & GOVERNMENT CONTROL AT ITS FINEST
I have been asked by the local coffee roaster to be the voice of his next radio ad, & of course I accespted , he has now added a line of fresh roasted peanuts almonds & cashues , along with the butters from all of them, so his new add will reflect that, & I will be recording the voice for it some time this week, dammm I miss the radioshow, 4 hours of therapy every day , & I always got the last word on the air anyhow, never get that at home , ( the last word that is ) hahahaha
I hope you can read my spelling, I never check it or worry about it , you just figure it out for your self , as you get used to reading it , sooner or later it will all start to make snce, , when that happens you can let me know & try to explane it to ME hahaha Enjoy, Vince

Good morning, it is Sunday 21 Feb.'10 & the SUN is out here in da Burgh , its just after 10AM & the temp is 33F & climing , the snow is melting & the trees are breaking & the wires are comming down all over the place , we on average get about 40 inches of snow per season, well we have 40 inches all ready just this month , so we are up to our @$$HOLES with snow here , BUt the QtrDeck is warm & inviting, & I will be heading there soon, all I need to do is get this posted & put the Sunday Hunk Of Beef in the oven yes sir then just sit back , enjoy a fine old cigar , a weee dram & some coffee, a little Jazz on the CD player, looks like its going to be a Brubeck day , I feel like a take 5 kind of day right now , but who knows by the time I get out there it might be Vince Garaldi , or Miles Davis , I might even look for the Scott Joplin CD , I havent played it in a long time hey at this point I might end up with Bach, Beethoven & Bennie Goodman for all I know . well do you ? hahahaha
With all the snow on the ground & the melt starting , we are in danger of floods & power outages , just like every day here in da burgh, as the old saying goes, if you dont like the weather here just wait 10 minutes or so & you might get some thing you like , sunny on one side of the street & rain on the other , yep thats da burgh
with all the snow the parking has been ZERO , well it took the city a few weeks to get some of the streets open , some are still only one lane , cars are burried by TONS of snow that has been plowed up against them, , winter Sucks , so why do I stay here? Only God & my wife have that answer & no one is talking to me !
we were expecting an order to come to the shop last Tuesday, By Friday , still Nada , going to give the factory a call on Monday to see what happened .......... Havent been able to hang out with the grandsons at all this week, just no place to get out to with all the snow , & no parking so no arrests or fines were made this week hahahaha
The pot of kona is empty, & I still havent had my Don Carlos #3 , looks like it will get smoked with a pot of Moca Java this morning, well maybe I will just make a second pot of Sunday morning Kona & get out to the QtrDeck & get the sunday morning smoke all fired up , I might even have a weee dram before noon today , hahahah as jimmy buffete said its 5 o'clock some place ,,,,,, yea a little Laphroaig will warm the soul as well as the body hahahahahaha, not that i have a drinking problem, I can still hit the snifter with a wee dram with out spilling any add a drop of water & off to the Qtr.Deck I go , , Family ,Friends & fair health ,coffee, scotch, cigar & music what more could I need ?
Enjoy, Vince

Ahhhhh yes, The Sunday Hunk Of Beef. It should be a movie. A movie about a traditional American family, a movie about a family from a corner of America just like any other, before misbehavior became fashionable, before everyone started making up their own values, instead of looking toward one set of values that we can all agree on, before criminals just needed to be "educated" out of their behavior, before they started teaching sensitivity instead of sensibility, along with reading, writing and arithmetic.

The Sunday Hunk Of Beef

starring an Olde Navy Cooke and his traditional American family, . . .

also starring 347 single malt scotches, an incredible array of cigars, coffees from around the world, . . .

and one hunk of beef, that just keeps getting served over and over again, every Sunday.

HAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

Now that might be funny, but what's going on over at Vince's cigar shop isn't, so if you're in the Western Pennsylvania area, stop in for a few cigars, and while you're in town, have a Roethlisberger, but don't charge Vince for it, and please don't drink all his single malt.

As for the snow, yeah, it's winter for another four weeks on the calendar, and hopefully for a while after that. A few more like this, and maybe we can get that government hand reaching for our thermostats back in the pocket it belongs, namely, not yours and mine.

Not a whole lot of excitement since football season was over. I love track and field, but meets on TV are not that plentiful. My ribs are healing okay, but still a way to go, and thank The Lord that I may have finally began my financial upturn over the past month. It seems that friends have found enough cleaning, painting, heavy lifting/moving, grouting, spackling and sanding for me to put my life back together in about two years or so. After that, I can keep doing all those things for another 25 years, at which time I'll be 80, and then maybe I can semi-retire!!!

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! That's how it's looking here in the Disunited Snakes of Amerika, NYC style, folks. The subway fare's going up again next year, so if you come to do some touristy kind of stuff, come loaded. It's $2.25 now, and will climb higher. I remember the fare when it was 15 cents. Yes, it has multiplied 15 times in the past 44 years. Incomes haven't, I assure you.

Don't forget to come here and read The Sunday Hunk Of Beef every week for Nooz Fum Da Burgh and other parts known and unknown.

hahahaha, if I could get her to eat chicken some times it would be great, we finished the left overs tonight , right now I need a tooth pick to dislodge a sliver o beef from the K9 tooth on the bottom right ...... I am getting ready to open a bottle of Lapgroaig 10YO , I need a warm up Burrr its chilly, with 40 inches of snow all ready this month , we are getting 5 to 8 inches in the next 2 days according to the national weather service , yea that will make the cash regester sing ... NOT... I thought when the weather was bad we would get busy, with out a place to smoke at home I figured everyone would come in & sit a spell smoke a cigar sip a little coffee & / or scotch , BUT , NO, the place is empty , only 5 customers all day......... , things need to get better Soon.
Enjoy, Vince

Good morning, it is Sunday 28th & LAST day of Febuary 2010, AMEN, the snowest month on record , here in da Burgh we get about 40 inches of snow per season, well we have over 48 this month alone , we picked up an other 6 last night & will get some more this afternoon, , with snow predicted every day this week, dammmm glad I DONT live in Minnasota or Montana , I dont think I could handle all the snow they get , , WashingtonD.C , Baltamore,Philly, NYC & Boston have got Slammed this winter , worse than us here in da burgh ...... So I guess I shouldnt bitch & wine about it like a little girl, BUT its my God Given right as an American to Bitch & wine about stuff I have no control over , like the weather < BUT I want to Bitch & wine about stuff I have "some "control over & that is our Government, state , federal, local , VOTE THEM ALL OUT & START ALL OVER AGAIN, thieving bastards, get rich feeding off the public ......... well not so much the locals as we dont pay them anything , but i am sure they get some kind of a deal some place , cant prove it but if there is a hand out I "think "they might find it ! well enough of the filled with rage BS & lets get down to the brass tacks of the posting, the Sunday morning Smoke , the QtrDeck is warming as I type the coffee will be a blend this morning , the kona went well with breakfast, a toasted ( well buttered & placed on the grill to toast) English muffin, a slice of swiss cheese , a slice of tomato , a strip of slab bacon , a dash of hot pepper relish & a fryed egg , sort of my version of the egg mcmuffin, but NOT served in a styroform box. , a hand full of vitimins & minerals , an orange 7 now here I am telling you all about it , there is a HUNK OF P O R K defrosting right now, yes P O R K , , I have No idea what happened but she wanted pork & sweet potatos today , well who am I to ask questions of the boss , she wants I provide, that way there is no arguements ..... so i will make her a pork roast with Gala apples , prunes & the usuall onions carrots & celery , the sweet spuds will get mashed with a little butter & cream & I will add a little hot pepper jelly to the gravy to give it a little kick, so if your in the area look for strapping on the feed bag about 4 Pm today , might pull the cork on a little sparking cider or even a nice bottle of Asti Spumanti , that ought to add a nice contrast to the pork ......
didnt get to spend any time with the grandsons this week as they were busy , I was "Busy" hahaha so no one was arrested this week, How ever i did get to toss a few snowballs at them at the bus stop on morning, had to drive out of my way a few mils but school was delayed 2 hours because of the weather, so had the opertunity to catch them off guard ...... a classic hit & run, I got off 3 snow balls before they turned arround & when they did turn I was all ready heading back to the car , BIG suprise attaic, how ever they were able to land about 6 hits on the car before i was able to get away hahahahahaha ............
the shop wasnt as slow as it has been , there was a flury of buying on Friday for a change with all the snow i thought we would be busy with guys suffering from spending way to much time at home , but it seams like they were enjoys spending time with the wife, hahahaha Yea right , just not allowd out in the bad weather ! , so stock up & smoke in the garage .
The Semi honorale Governer , eddie spendelli of Penna. wants a 30% tax on cigars here in the state, well that will sure add to the state income when a lot of places CLOSE , HOW can I justify a 30% tax on top of the 6% sales tax we all ready have plus the s chip fed tex a cheep 3 buck stick will be a 6 buck stick before its all over , who is going to buy a 200 dollar box when it will cost 260 for the same cigars , & I will not be able to buy from holts, famos or Ci as they are in Penna & I would need to pay the tax, unless I get stuff out of Fla. where there is no state exsise tax , Pa & Fla are the only states with out it right now , & fast eddie wants more tax money from us so he is taxing everything that isnt nailed down yet , he wants to tax professional fees like Docs & lawyers, , then turn arround & tax them as it is income , tax on a tax, , , , , , SHOOT THE GREEDY BASTARDS !!!!!( not realy I know shoothing them is not right , BUT what they are doing is not right , so VOTE THE BASTARDS OUT ) , we need a few rough & tumble NUNs to get in there & straighten out the congress , Slap a few nuckles with that ruller , tell ms policy & mr reed to get out of Dodge & dont come back, & DONT use an Airforce jet to get out of town , FLY on your own broom stick ! , dammm do I sound bitter? well , I have a lot more to say But I dont have the time , right now I have a pot of moca java , a God of Fire Calling my name as well as a pork roast to take care of so I better get going, ENJOY, VINCE

Checking in a little early today, or is that a little late, ha! Getting ready to go put my face in a few more toilets as I transition from, . . .

no wait, I did that Friday, and I'm doing some more tomorrow. Today, I'm doing a top to bottom cleaning of a prep room at a funeral home, as I continue my transition from the computer field to manual labor.

So, I see Vince's wife threw him another curve ball with the pork roast. She probably heard pitchers and catchers were in, and figured it's the best way to keep hubby hopping, just throw him another curve ball. Sounds delicious, though. Hey, if you have a husband/wife who can cook like Vince, you have to take advantage of it as much as possible!

And how do you like driving around, following the grandsons' school bus and getting to throw snowballs at them? Talk about a fun grandpa!!! Lucky he wasn't mistaken for a child molester and carted off by the cops, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! And that leads me to . . .

The Nanny State. Yes, some nanny staters would have thought they were doing society a service by carting Vince off, before getting their facts straight first, and notwithstanding grammar, spelling, punctuation or delivery, when it comes to politicians, NO ONE says it better than Vince, and I agree wholeheartedly.

As for snow, it's been the snowiest winter on record here in NYC, but you'd never tell by the weather this weekend. Up in the 50's yesterday, not a cloud in the sky, will be the same today, a wonderful morning for the four mile walk to work, and it will be a beautiful afternoon for the walk back.

Manual labor, trying to rebuild my life, but I'll tell you one thing. If taxes on cigars get any higher, I may NEVER be able to rebuild the empty spaces in my humidors. What nonsense!!!

Have a great day everyone. God bless all you here at EOTAC, God bless what's left of Amerika, and remember what Vince says, if they don't do the right thing during the first term, vote them out, and just keep voting them out. When politicians learn they can't make a career of bending us over and removing our very lives from us, maybe then we'll really be free.

Good morning, it is Sunday 7 March 2010 a cool bright morning here in da Burgh, the snow is slowly melting & there is grass showing in places in the yard, the big piles that were shoveled are shrinking & now you can see over top of them when backing out of the drive way ......... looks like Big Ben has found more trouble with a young lady ....... if it has tires or tits , sooner or later it will give you trouble , & the ladys will say if it has tires or testicals it will give you trouble , so we all loose on that one ..... a slight change in todays menu, beef will be at the center of the plate but today it will be in the form of a marinated strip steak,, a side of onions & peppers that will be carmelized & some white corn that will be steamed , also a pot of vegtables beef soup will get simmering some time after breakfast, should be ready for the first course about 4/4:30.......... the boss is a little upset this past week, not feeling well & my attatude has been rather glum , I guess the weather is getting to all of us , but the sun is out & I plan on a little walk in the sun today, , the sunshine should do us good, but how do i get her to put down the Sunday paper , as that is her rutine every Sunday , cover to cover read the paper , , , I guess i am sounding like a broken record, sales are slow the sunday coffee is kona & the cigar is Don Carlos, beef to eat (most of the time ) & the antics of the grandsons, ..... not much chnges from week to week , we just get OLDER & dammmm I am feeling old this morning , creeking joints sore mussels & a foggy brain... that just about sums it up ........ dammm had I known I was going to live this long I might have taken better care of this body hahahaha
Enjoy, Vince

And as I head out the door, I'm thanking God that I did take care of my body, despite a lot of what John Madden would call dings and dents that I've accumulated. I'm taking a four mile walk over hill and dale, concrete covered nonetheless, and four miles back, for a few hours of manual labor. I came to realize a few years ago that my body might have to be what gets me through to at least age 70, and at 53, have finally found some steady manual labor, face in toilets, heavy lifting, painting, all that kind of stuff. I may have enough to begin rebuilding my life, and perhaps when I get to be 56, in the fall of 2012, I'll finally have paid off my personal debt, no money in the bank, and a fresh start on life. Then, I'll be facing at least 15, maybe even 25 more years of manual labor until I can "retire" at somewhere between 70 and 80. Yup, thank GOD I TOOK CARE OF THIS BODY!!! IT'S ALL I'VE GOT LEFT!!!

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHAHAHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

God bless America, God bless Vince and his beef.

Gee Vince, I can't believe you are still posting this Sunday morning blog. I have to check in more often. Glad to hear things are well.

Good morning , it is Sunday 14 March 2010 , the clocks "sprang " forward & we all lost an hour of much needed beauty sleep hahahaha , we have had a great week here in da Burgh most of the snow is GONE, I can see grass in my yard, But the melting snow along with the rain has made a real mess for the people living near the rivers & streams , High water all over the area , there is a medow i pass every day on my way to work with a small stream winding through it , well it looks like a lake today , the temps have been fine, 50& 60 during the days & high 30 low 40 at night, no freezing so we have been getting a lot of melting snow all day & night , walking in my yard is like staning on wet sponges as you step the water squishes out from under your feet , the birds are loving it as the worms are all out of the ground, , come to think of it so are the fishermen, easy access to bait !, only bad thing about the warm weather is that it brings us closser to grass cutting season ! , NEXT MOVE will be some place with out a lawn to cut, or maybe I can hire a grandson or 2 to take care of the yard, they are 12 & 14 , no reason there OLD GRANDMOTHER should be out cutting grass & trimming , God knows I will NOT be doing it if I can find some one else to do it hahahaha .................
the Humidor has been getting a little light over the winter as i have been smoking but not buying much of anything so the stock pile has dwindled to an alarming low amount, leaving me to suffer through the prime stock i have been hoarding for years right now i have a casa fuente at the ready, no Don Carlos #3 this morning , all GONE !!! OH the horror of it all !!! from a 2 year supply ( 24 Boxes ) to ZERO in just a few short years , But i did save a lot of $$$$$$$ , now I need to replace it at the new higher price so now i will be spending a lot more than i saved, , looks like I am taking financial advice from the federal government , welcome to the poor house !, I have even skipped the Sunday morning kona today & went with a pappa new guinea, with a med dark roast mixed with 40% medium light roast of the same , not as grand as the Kona but not a bad mix at all, the casa fuente should go with it verrrrry well, but then a casa fuente will go well with a cup of cold water providing there is a snifter of single malt whisky next to it hahahaha...................
Breakfast this morning was a bed of red onions & red bell peppers tossed with a little EVOO & cooked till soft, the dinner link sausage was split open & taken out of the casings & browned with the peppers & onions a handfull of aged pecereno romano & regeano parmagino were added to the beaten eggs with a few sliced tomatoes on the side , & breakfast was served, & since there was pork sausage left over , it will go with todays PORK ROAST , NO BEEF Again , last weeks NY strip steaks were grand, , cooked on the grill till just a nice pink center was calling out , HEY fatty I'M DONE N O W !!!!!, ahhh yes it was good..... but the pork roast today will be slightly different, the standard carrots celery & onions with a few sliced apples & some prunes will go in the cast iron pot but the left over sausage will also go in for the added flavor ( FAT ) , should be ready about 4 pm if your in the area stop in for a bite !!!...........
Thursday I took the older grandson to his school for a student poetry reading............. dammmmm those kids are Dark & forboding, talking about death & lonelyness , dark & miserable living conditions, standing there with a 300 dollar I phone in there pocket of the 100 buck rinestone bluejeans , the 200 bucks for the latest air jordans & a hand painted t shirt sighned by andy warhall , Oh yea mom drover her here in a Landrover or a BMW , yea they know about the life on the hard side of the tracks , BUNCH OF LIBERAL WEENIES , dammm I told my self not to go there but dammm it just came out , I wonder what they would be like had they WORKED for the stuff there parents shove up there asses ? , sure my parents helped me up to a point , But I never took advantage of the love I got , I put in plenty of time in my grandmothers kitchen learning the trade, for no pay at all, & LOVED doing it , now the kids dont put down the X box or PS3 unless there is cash involved & how much cash is also a prime factor, 5 bucks , no I think I will just stay on the xbox , 10 buks maybe, 20 bucks is getting closserto my liking but for 50 they will even shut off the TV for a half an hour, I got 5 cents an hour on my first paying job( I was only 5 at the time ) but it was my first pay & I remember it like it was last night , how ever what happend last night I have no idea hahahaha
well its back to the kitchen to get the pork started, then to the shower for a quick rince wash & set , then to the QtrDeck & a long chat with a casa fuente corona & maybe a Padron maduro anniv. Principe after the pork, yea that sounds like a game plan ... Enjoy, Vince

Ahhhhh yes, Vince, don't get me started. It was one thing when my Depression Era mother used to yell at me about certain things that I may have taken for granted, and she was right THEN a lot of times, although sometimes it was uncalled for and over the top. And we were poor, on welfare for a while, her and my dad having broken up when I was quite young. But THESE kids!!! Don't get me started. America and the entire world is in grave darkness right now, and it's only going to get darker. I have had to resort at age 53 to filthy and sometimes hazardous manual labor to make a living. I'm not blaming anyone, just happy to be working, actually wish I had a few more hours. It's never been about what KIND of work for me, just making enough money. The economy has changed so much over the past thirty years, industries growing, branches dying, growing again, dying again, but one thing that never goes out of style is the business community's need for people who don't mind washing toilets, and working on their hands and knees, getting filthy and working their bodies vigorously.

Oh sure, I'd love to be sitting in a comfortable chair in front of a monitor, pounding out edits to complicated legal documents at some law firm somewhere, but that's nowhere to be found. So, a few friends from the small business community have actually found work for me cleaning, painting, heavy lifting/moving, washing down embalming rooms, including the tables, cleaning bathrooms, even some of the owner's/manager's homes and apartments, various duties. Starting over at 53, thankful that with all my various injuries, and having a "bad back" from cervical to lumbar, with corresponding pain, stiffness and loss of function in my joints, that I can still "do it" physically. It's just about finding enough work. One of those jobs is a four mile walk there and back. Show those kids these posts, Vince. Show them their future, because if they don't learn how to use the arms and legs, as well as brain that God supposedly gave them, there WILL be no one left to pay their way by the time they get old. And because they won't have bodies worth a damn physically, they will be thrown on the ash heap of The New World Order, useless to anyone.

Vince, I actually think I remember when you bought all those boxes of Don Carlos #3, and they're GONE ALREADY!!! WHOA, HORSEY!!! Wow. And that's not the ONLY cigars he smokes folks, so put THAT in your pipe and have a puff on THAT, hee, hee, heee!!!

We had a rip roaring rain storm of legendary proportions yesterday, and we're still trying to figure out if we would have been better off with snow than rain. I know one thing, if it HAD been snow it would have been even bigger than the last recent snow storm. Just like that storm, this one killed people, downed trees, destroyed cars, damaged homes, and the flooding is being felt from New Jersey to Connecticut, and everywhere in between. I hear even Vince's area is due for more rain and massive flooding.

Yes, all the clocks in the house, including my watch, were taken care of last night. I'm always on top of that. Don't want to be one of those people who's walking around three days later wondering why the world's clocks are all wrong, HAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

Vince, some day if you and I are blessed, we shall be in a better place where the disappointments of how America willfully self-destructed during our birth and life period will not even be remembered. In the meantime, we have to just . . .

"Keep On Pushin'."

God Bless America, God Bless you all here at EOTAC. Be safe and have a wonderful day.
