Good morning, it is Sunday , 21 March ,2010 ..... a fine morning here in da Burgh the First Sunday of spring, & pot roast AGAIN, dammm I thought I had her ready for something else but I see a pot roast defrosting & what the BOSS wants the BOSS gets hahahahaha , its so much easyer that way, hahahaha , she went to a local fund raiser for the ladys club of center twp. yesterday with our daughter, & her sister , a lunch of chicken salid on a cressaunt , some sliced fruit & a fashion show for the spring & summer line from some boutiqueat the local mall, & barb won a door prize from the local coffee roaster who I just made there last radio advertisement for , so she has a ton of new coffees to try , & the only "Flavoried " coffee was a Vermont Maple that she made for breakfast this morning, a little sweet for my tadte buds & way to sweet for a cigar , as the maple flavor would even cover a kuba kuba & I dont see me smoking any flavored or infused cigars any time soon, if given the choice between a flavored cigar or nothing , I will take the nothing ( the same for coffee, but I had no voice in the matter this morning , it was made & in my cup before I had any idea , well wonce I had it in my mouth it was to late to say no thanks, but its not as bad as it sounds , , I will be washing out the coffee mug before i fire up the sunday morning kona FOR Sure !!!
#2 grandson has a case of strep so he is down & out for the week, the kid is a scrapper for sure, he is sleeping with the video game controler in his hand ready to strike when ever the bad guys pop up on the screen...... looks like he will be on the couch the rest of the week, & the entire time #1 grandson is saying hes not sick, hes faking it so he can stay home from school, but I havent ever seen a 12 year old sleep 12 hours at a time with out being sick, not eating & not wanting to talk as his throat is fire engine red & sore , i just hope Barb dosent get it & I have a little tickel in my throat my self, BUT I think a fine OLD cigar is just what the doc might order & I have a fine Old stick all ready picked out ,a Cigar thats been in my humidor since 1995 & I have 6 of them left a churchill size Remodios ( not sure of the spelling on this one ) H3LL I'M never sure of the spelling of half the stuff i write about ! hahaha one of these days i will get arround to using my spell check, its in the computer but I havent figured out how to access it yet, why take the time when I can keep you all gusing what the h3ll I am talking about hahahaha
Last night we went for a short cigar ride , & great time looking at the stars thought the open sun roof , well since it was at night a Moon roof , the coffee was from CHARBUCK$ & I was smoking a a Fine stick from Don Gonzalezes , a double wrapped maduro churchill , one of the best cigars I have had & I have had some great smokes in my life but his stuff is great, he is a small boutique line from Southbeach & his maduro is a must have for my humidor& it should be for yours if your into a great maduro hahaha
............. there is still a lot of snow in the parking lots that hasnt melted yet, the grass is all clear but the big piles in the lots that get a short supply of direct sun seam to be holding on the water fills the poyholes & you dont see them till its to late , bammmm time for a new tire & rim , I hate the cast alcoa wheels , just to soft for the pot holes , sure they look great but being in the trunk with the little mini spare on the car isnt getting it done hahahaha , But I dont change tires any more , I call the tow truck & have them fix it or replace it let the insurance company deal with them, thats what I pay for road hazzard coverage ............ well I need to get to the kitchen , Enjoy, Vince

Enjoy, Vince

Just WHERE HAVE I BEEN!!! I DEMAND TO KNOW!!! If anyone knows where Bloof has been, One Adam 12, see the man, corner of North La Piedra de Rodriguez Mantequilla El Rey XXXI and 12th Street.

Just finished catching up on, and will make Bloofingtonian commentary on the last two posts of Vince's. Yeah Vince, go figure on the pot roast, just give the lady what she wants, smile, don't make her suspicious about anything and move on. The rest of life will be a lot easier.

One thing that's not easy is a kid with a fire engine red throat. Better the little red fire engine stays in the garage with the rest of the toys he had when he was six years old, and it doesn't get in his throat.

Indeed, I concur about flavored coffee. Give me no coffee. Same with flavored cigars.

I'm going to remember that Don Gonzales Maduro tip, Vince. When I have some money of my own, which should be In The Year 2525, I'll remember that, haaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Speaking of my own, anything "my own," I did 34 ass busting hours in a little over a week on a yard work project in the parking lot of a friend's funeral home. It involved hands and knees crawling and manicuring lots of garbage including gross stuff, pruning, cutting, pulling, raking, sweeping, bagging, the works. This was in addition to other regular cleaning jobs, and the ten hours left over from what was once a fifty hour plus computer field work load. My career transition from the computer field to manual laborer is progressing nicely, and my body is sure feeling it today. It took me a while to remember my name today, as it always does when I've just been waking up and getting ready for work, thinking about work, stressing about money, not being able to do anything but think about work, hurting from the work I'm doing, all that stuff, but FINALLY, on this, the weekly Sabbath Day, I have rested, and I have read. I also have come over to check out the boards, and do a little real thinking when I type.

It was a lot of over growth in the garden area surrounding the parking lot of this funeral home, including some work on a ladder up higher than I've ever comfortably worked before. I didn't want to let my friend down, and in attempting to be appropriately grateful for the work he's given me, I'm trying to reach new heights. Hey, reach new heights, yeah, . . .

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH . . .

THUMP!!!

Well, that's not what I had in mind, and thankfully that's not what happened. But in case anyone's looking for a good laugh, I'm not just The Resident Dumb Blond(e), I'm deathly afraid of heights, like the SECOND STEP on a conventional ladder is IT for me. So, there I was on the last day of this project, praying all the way up the ladder, praying while wielding the electric hedge trimmer just inches from my face with ONE hand, higher up than I've ever comfortably been, but I finished the project to the boss' satisfaction, and even got driven home last night by the boss, after bringing me in to the private office for a shot of home made apple brandy 2005, not his, but a friendly neighbors'. Yup, I made it up to the fourth step to work, even the fifth step for a second or two, then putting one foot back down on the fourth step. I had to get up that high to do a good job, and although there were branches higher up on a couple trees that really should have come off, not even someone else up on the next to last step of the available ladder would have gotten most, so all things worked out, I'm here nursing a hurting body, and there's nothing like catching up on . . .

Ye Olde Sundae Morninge Smohke.

And yes Vince, it's difficult, but if we try hard enough, we can understand what you're Tai Ping, although spell check might be nice some day, . . .

In The Year 2525.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

Folks, I've had ten years of this. Yup, it was about this time a full decade ago that I started posting, after a couple months reading conversations between Vince, Ramone2 and the many others at Cigar Aficionado, so keep reading, keep deciphering, and you'll get the hang of it. If you think Vince is bad, you should have caught Hojoschmokes at 3 a.m., half in the bag.

GOOD MORNING, IT IS SUNDAY ,,,EASTER SUNDAY, 4th of April,2010.... A wonderful spring morning here in da burgh, the sky is blue the birds are singing , the coffee is Kona & the cigar is a padron anniv,1964 principe maduro , the ham is in the oven I wanted to do lamb but I was out voted 1 to 1 , seams like a tie to me but she wins all ties , just like the house playing blackjack , but she has much better odds as I have lost with my 19 to her 18 on many occations hahahahaa , you married guys understand that logic dont you < hahaha & you single guys, welllllll youl just have to learn it the hard way hahahaha, I have always thought of my self as Cigar dave puts it an ALFA MALE , never been oprified to my understanding, but when PUSH comes to shove I guess i am a wipped pup ........ but she treats me so well i have no complaints , this morning there was a gift pack on the breakfast table, a sampler pack of 5 vegas & a sampler pack of mixed vintage & producers from all over central americia,,,, she always takes care of me & she gets taken care of by me , i have always been in the kitchen ( execpt to clean up ) hahaha & this August it will be 40 years, so she lets me have my way most of the time & I never tell her she cant do anything she wants but for Cigeretts , I just cant stand the smell of burning paper, & JUNK tobacco , but give me a silky soft aroma of a fine cigar & I am in heaven, , ahhh yea a sip of coffee, a snif of scotch & a fine cigar , ...... explative deleted ....... dammmm thats great !
well the ham has been soaking for 4 days & went in the oven a few minuts ago, it will come out about 3:30 for a little glaze & we should be sitting down about 4 , a yam cassarol & a mixed veg compote will accompany the left hip main course , might even pop the cork on a 2002 Mumms .......
the shop has picked up a little but not what it should be , still looking for that 1K day, came close friday , but this aint horseshoes or hand granades & close just dont count .........
with all the flu bugs going in & out of the schools , I havent been able to get much time with the grandsons, one or the other has been suffering with some kind of bug, passing it back & forth to the rest of us & the mutt, the big baby , 180 pound of LAP dog , he thinks hes a little mex hairless that tips the scales at 3 pounds ,,,, stupid as he is strong , kind of like Jethrow Bodeen from the Beverly hillbillys .... note to all you young people, the beverly hillbillys was a tv show back before color tv was standard & we watch tv in black & whites with shades of gray to contrast, way back before you were born, there was no cable TV, every one had an antena on the roof , seams like a long time ago BEFORE MTV there was this little thing called a RADIO & big vinal disc called a RECORD. but I digress ...... we did hit a new all time high temp here for the date it was a tropical 85 here on Thursday , but we are looking for a high today of 74 , very Comfortable & the kid of day you want to kick back in the hammock but there are no leaves on the trees to give you shade so the hammock will stay folded till the shade factor kicks in hahahaha . well its time for a cigar & a second pot of kona this morning , a Blessed Easter&Passover to you all . Enjoy, Vince

Good morning , it is Sunday April 11 ,2010, a cool clear morning here in da burgh, a nice day by the words of the weather channel with a high of 65F , not a day to get a trip to the beach , if there was a beach here in da Burgh, swimming in the river is way to cold as of today, the water temp is in the low 50's F so it is chilly to say the lest, we have had a busy week at the shop 2 days were outstanding, but Wed. was so slow I could have mailed it in , we had a master roller in the shop Tuesday, From Don Gonzalez's cigars , Alehandro is a pro , he was a roller at the famed Partagas factory for 7 years in Havana showing me how to roll the correct way, it gets some getting used to , as I have been rolling cigars for some time now & he showed me the classic Cuban cap , which I seam to get on with fine, but with my poor eyesight I have a little problem with the right & wrong side of the leaf, dammmm its tuff getting old, from 10 feet I see the difference but at arms lenght both sides look the same , I guess I will have to trust my finger tips to tell me the difference hahahaha yea like these old crab claws have much feeling in them after years of pulling stuff out of boiling water & flipping stuff on the grill with the fingers & not a tool, dammmmm God gave us fingers long before some one thought of Tools hahahaha
I am so glad to see a blue sky dotted with puffy white clouds , vs the dark gray sky with gray to black clouds we have had most of the winter, right now there is a bit of haze in the sky or do I need to clean my glasses again hahahahaha , yep its the glasses hahahaha , the ham & cheese omlet I made this morning seams to have left a light coating of evoo on the lenses , nothing new about that !! , last night the BOSS & I watched Saturday Night Live , & for a long time it has been rather slow & not as funny as it was 35 years ago, dammmm its been on that long ! well last nights show was funny , SNL has given us a lot of great comic's over the last 35 years & the Orginal not ready for prime time players were IMHO the best ,yea some of the later replacements were good , but JUST LIKE LUCY , some of the ones who came after Her were as good but never BETTER ......
Since all the snow has gone back to where ever it came from , the grass is looking a little shabby , there are a lot of pine cones , twigs , leaves & wind blown trash littering the yard & fence line , , , , ., Maybe I might get to it tomarrow, or maybe tuesday, & if I wait till the boss gets tired of wating for me to do it , she might get out there one day when I'm at work & clean it up hahahahahaha yea like that will happen, hey strang events happen when you lest expect them...
That brings this weeks BS to the grandsons, ........... whats to tell you about them, 12 & 14 , boys , computers I pods, game boys , Wii , & cell phones & the youngest one taks care of the 180 pound Mastiff who is as DUMB as he is strong.....
since today is Sunday & the BOSS wants pot roast, , well you guessed it , its in the oven all ready, the ham 7 cheese omlet we had at breakfast went down smooth with a pot of JOLT coffee, double the cafine of regular coffee, , & so one dementional , that the sample bag will be my Last purchase of this rotgut coffee , I was in the mood for a full right flavor coffee this morning & since the kona is a light roast with a grand taste i was in the mood for a fully chewy coffee, this morning so i grabbed this double cafine bag of pre groung junk, tastes like the package it came in , got my heart racing , but didnt do $hit for my taste buds , now I will need a double Lafroiag to clean out the taste buds before i brew the Sunday morning Kona , the Sunday morning Don Carlos #3 was replaced with a San Cristobol robusto this morning, great cigar in its own right but just not what i was after for the morning smoke, back to the Don Carlos asap why do I try different stuff when I have been hooked on the DC3 for more years than I care to count , yea its nice to look & dream but you go home with the one you brung to the dance ........ You Hope !
well I need to get to the kitchen fire up the coffee pot raid the humidor & get my lazy butt to the Qtr.Deck , Enjoy, Vince

It's that time again. Once more, I'll be leaving very early, and am chiming in to review the last two Sunday Morning Smokes by Vince. Enriching us with tales of his sitcom life, and yet we see that he never fails to let us know about the teamwork it takes to make a good marriage. Note that "she" is the boss, but overall, Vince has no complaints, and in turn, the boss gets taken care of in every way. Every member of the team doing their job, except perhaps the grandsons, haaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!, but it all works, and wonderfully, after a decade of communicating with this great man among us.

And great translates to many topics of life. Once more, in just a few sentences, among other things, Vince has passed along valuable culinary tips which can be quite helpful, starting today. A little tip here, a little tip there, ask a question occasionally, and within a few months, anyone reading his posts can have a brand new perspective on cooking, not to mention an expanded repertoire.

I remember that 85 degree day well, Vince. It was 90 here. Not only is 90 just plain undesirable to me altogether, but to have it come so early is downright unbearable, and I'm glad that weather is gone for a while. That's why they call them SEASONS, and unseasonable weather, especially on the hot side, just doesn't agree with me. Off to do some work for a friend in my new occupation as a manual laborer, helping he and his wife get some things at their house under control, which have gone unattended for years. And who doesn't know about that? Yards, garages, attic storage, lots of things get left for years when you're a homeowner, and sometimes ya need someone to just come in and toss the place. And when it all comes back down from the sky, it's all clean and organized. So, that's another part of what I'm now doing for a living, in addition to kissing toilets and licking embalming tables, polishing furniture, mopping floors, etc. It's work, and thank God for that, any work.

Speaking of which, by the time Vince puts up today's post, I'll be long gone, and who knows when I'll be back to the boards, but it's never boring around here. Despite the dearth of posts through the past year or two, there's still plenty to read, plenty of interesting stuff here at EOTAC.

Y'know, one thing about Vince, and remember, he's something you can only find here at EOTAC. Ya gotta love a guy who goes for a double Laphroaig to wash the taste of bad coffee out of his mouth. And you have to love being in that position in life. He's not rich, not by a long shot, but Vince knows what's good. But why he insists on drinking bad coffee lately, well, I guess we'll have to stay tuned for the next episode, haw, hawwwwwwww!!! As for me, I'm off to work the body. Yeah, work the body. Most people are working keyboards for a living these days, or wishing they were. Even railroad engineers have jobs that barely resemble what they were half a century ago, never mind a whole century ago. Speaking of a whole century ago, or about the time Vince was born, . . .

Brooklyn and Queens were farms, and Broadway had a horse manure problem.

Folks, don't know when I'll be back, but God bless America, God bless you all, and I can't wait to read the next Sunday Morning Smoke, coming up in just a few hours. Don't know when I'll get to reply, but I'll probably be reading it late tonight after I get in and get settled. Have a great week, all you EOTAC people!!!

Good morning , it is Sunday 18th of April,2010, a cool wet morning here in Da 'Burgh , I am about 25 miles, north west from the Point in PittsBURGH, a great place to grow up & live in , right now our National Football League team the Steelers , well they are having a tuff time with some of the players getting into trouble , from the kicker Jeff Reed , getting drunk & fighting with the police, to the reciever & Super bowl MVP Santanio Holmes , getting High on Weed & testing positive for a second time & the star Qterback Big Ben Rothlesburg, having trouble keeping his Pants up & his manhood under check, having maultable ladys comming forward claiming sexual assualt , Superbowl champ or not , its time to get rid of him, trade him to Oakland Or anyone who will take him , he is a great player , but a very rich child in a mans body , No social graces , he lets the little head think for the big head , he has over looked special needs children to hit on the teacher , refused to sign autographs & have his photo taken , but will chat up almost any thing in a short skirt that he thinks he might have a chance to see whats under it . , Some think he is a wild stud just out doing what he should be doing , but most people think he is a JERK , I look for the 6 time Superbowl CHAMPs to trade his
@ $ $ ,for a few jock straps & a stack of clean towls , he might be great on the field , but he hasn't the mind set or the passion off the field to be a roll modle for anyone but but for Charles Mansion.........
well now thats thats off my chest ..... lets get back to the Cigars & such.... , this Morning was started off with a pot of kona coffee & the Don Carlos #3 & a brisk walk while I sipped the coffee & enjoyed the cigar , when it was finished I came in & made a bacon & egg breakfast for the boss & my self, & I have a nice hunk of beef to roast later this morning, should be out of the oven & on the table some time about 4 PM , a few onions ,carrots ,potatos & celery with a nice dark beef gravy , I might pull the cork on a bottle of Italian red wine .......... all I need to do is figure out what to have for desert, ......... maybe a baked apple ...... who knows till I get to the kitchen & see whats in the pantry & fridge ... .... the shop was busy most of the week but Saturday was a BUST, , it was Cold & rainy all day , & after the great Friday weather we had in the day , most people stayed home & out of the rain, but the grass is green & the lawns need cutting , dammmmm I hate summer for that reason, I enjoy the beach & the warm evenings outside with a cigar & sinle malt scotch , maybe a little coffee to wash it all down with BUT that DAMMMM grass, , I think its time to sell the house & move into a high rise appartment with a balcony so I can sit outside & smoke , & Tick off the entire city with my cigar smoke , well at lest a few of the people living near me hahahahahaha , right now all I have to overcome is the aroma from the cow pasture next to me , het no problem when the wind is in my favor , But when its in the cows favor , dammmmm its a POWERFUL aroma to over come , but after 35 year here , thay are getting used to me hahahaha ,
the Grandsons are getting aling well, the 14 year old is in need of a hair cut but tells us he isnt ready yet......... well he will be ready when I go & take him to the barbers........ his 12 year old brother has no problem with a haircut, in fact he called me to take him a few weeks ago as his mother was busy & he wanted a trim before it got on his ears, ,,, , , , I know he has a motive to this & God only knows what the thinking is behind it , he is only 12 but he thinks like a 25 year old man.... always some thing in the end for himself , yea if I get my hair cut I might be able to talk myself into a new Bike or computer game.... when it finnaly comes out what he is after I will be sure to let you all in on it !
We had a nice quiet breakfast this morning , just the boss & myself, , no outside interference , no phone calls , just a little music from the wind chimes on the back porch, the birds at the feeder & the the sound of Bacon in the skillet ..... what a way to start a wonderful Sunday Morning .
Enjoy, Vince

Wed. update
big ben gets a 6 game suspention, time to trade him for a stack of clean towls & a few jock straps,
Enjoy, Vince

Good morning , it is Sunday 25th of April,2010, a wonderful warm morning here in da Burgh with a projected high in the mid to upper 70's , we should get a thunderstorm this afternoon, , but right now the sky is blue & there is a warm wind out of the south west & I will be out on the back deck asap, the Sunday morning coffee is a pot of Kona & the cigar is a Don Carlos #3, but instead of the traditional hunk of Beef to keep the boss happy , I have a big old hunk of TURKEY , defrosting , it will hit the oven about 1 PM should be done in 3 hours , it is all boned out but for the breast, , I like to keep the breast intact to stuff it with a bread, cornbread & vegatable mix , , witch is a simple mix of onions, celery ,bell peppers & carots. that gets mixed with the breads, a tin of milk, eggs ,butter, salt, sage & a little rosemary, pepper & a pinch of citrus , that all gets stuffed in the bird , in the oven at 325F for 3 hours, should be just fine ..... a little gravy , mashed potato's ,cranberry relish,& some sort of veggie , maybe corn or peas, but I have to look in the freezer to see whats still in there ..... should be on the table about 4 /4:30 so if your in the area be shure to stop ...
the week at the shop was slower than I wanted , granted i dont want to run all day long , but sitting for hours at a time with out a customer isnt any way ro run a cigar shop, we need people sitting smoking & SPENDING , SPENDING , thats the key, hahahaha seams like I am the only one spending anything hahahaha but the coffee is always on , the music or the TV is on, the chairs are so comfortable I have gotten in a nap from time to time .......... I have been running specials & discounts & the same people come in day after day GOD BLESS THEM ALL , we need NEW & YOUNG cigar smokers, , I dont have any machine made cigars in the shop, NO swisher sweets, No black & milds or hav-a-tampa , nothing with plastic tips, JUST hand rolled cigars & pipe tobacco NO CIGARETTS...... (they STINK ) , but a cigar emits a wonderful aroma ........ well I know the kids want the junk to slice open to smoke weed in them , so I dont have anything like that, no rolling papers or blunts let them go to a shop that caters to the pot heads , we are a few steps above that, not that we are stuck up & borish, I just want a place to sit , converce, enjoy the company of friends sip a little coffee, whisky, beer, wine , what ever you want, Bring your own , as we cant sell it but I do have glasses & cups in the shop, as well as an opener or two, there is a cooler to keep you beer cold if you so desire & we do have bottled water & soft drinks for sale , so if yourin the need of some BS, a rest for your tired mind & feet, be sure to stop in KING Beaver Cigars in Monaca Pa & say hello, sit a spell have a cup of coffee, a pint or two, maybe 3 & pass the time with a Fine Hand rolled cigar .... yes I know that was a shamless plug for the shop, but its what I do , & who I am hahahahaha
the grandsons have been busy all week, I did get to spend a little time with the youngest one yesterday , he is 12 , & not in the best of health he has grown, just 2 inches & only gained 3 pounds in the past 2 years , he eats well, but just isnt growing, he has been to so many doctors in the past year, no one has an answer, , failure to thrive , is all they say, , I have spent enough time with him to find out he is a well adjusted , young man, he has a lot of friends who treat him well, he plays scoccer, plays guitar, & plays with the family dog a 180 pound mastife , the dog has him by 100 pounds but listens to him well, they get along just fine...... when the gradson was here he ate like a champ, 5 of my hand made cheese ravolis, I was only able to get 4 down myself, , they are about the size ofthe palm of your hand , the filling is rich , riccotta cheese, egg, spinich ,paramagino ,romano cheese,& a little crumble of feta cheese , the dough is semilina flour , chestnut flour , wheat flour , a pinch of salt & eggs , a drop of olive oil just because I like the taste ,,,, it gets worked into a dough by hand & rolled out , filled but the spoon full, cut ,folded & boiled , topped with a little red gravy ( tomato sauce that has been cooking all day , the pasta is FRESH but the sauce is a reduction of whole plum tomatos seasonings a spash of wine , & few pork rib bones & a beef soup bone, cooked till the marrow is melted into the sauce , a little garlic bread & a sprinkel fresh grated cheese on top & a little green salid , dammmm it cant get much better than that , so I know the kid is eating well, & not throughing up after , he just isnt gaining any weight ????? so we just feed him what ever he will eat anytime any place , but he sticks to the 3 meals a day, eats sloly but puts it away , I guess he is just going to be a very thin person , , but at times he looks like a refugee from Bergen-Bleson, or Alzwitch, , I dont know what to think about it, his mother is worried & that worries me . the older grandson who is 14 thinks is a crock, just let the kid alone , is his comments, I know they talk to each other & I am sure if there was some thing going on the big one would spill the beans as he is a classic gossip , always has the story to tell & on a mission to gather information to pass on , they are as different as night & day ...... , the Pittsburgh Pirates are getting ready to have there 18th or 19 loosing season in a row, the steelers have a problem with the star qtrback big ben rothlesburger, should have traded him for a few clean towls & a jock strap or 2 & gotten a new Qtr.Back in the draft this weekend, but , he is a 2 time superbowl CHUMPION , , maybe he should be a gelding , that might calm him down ! hahahaha , No I dont think I would wish that on my worst enemey, but since I dont have any enemys that I know of I mightjust be wrong about castration , dammmm that hurts just saying it ! OUCH hahaha, Enjoy,, Vince

Good morning, it is Sunday second day of May 2010, a warm wet day here in da burghts been a slow week newswise here , same old stuff, big ben rothlessburgher is embarrised , the Pirates won 3 games in a row after loosing 7 , & the Pens won the first game in the second round of the stanley cup playoffs, , I have no idea what they did last night or if they even played, I havent pickup up the sunday paper or turned on the news yet today,
we had a fair week at the shop, but a KICK @$$ Friday night , lots of coffee was consumed as well as a bottle of Laugavulin 16 Y.O. single malt , DEVINE , that all I can say !!
2 of our local highschools are merging , to be come just one larger school district, so all the sports teams are merging into one, well that leaves the coaching staff over populated , sdo the jobs were opened up for bidding , & the school board has to "Hire" the new staff, well the basketball coach is a 31 year veteran , with 462 wins,301 losses a state title , a No nonsence hard nosed old school coach, he was a state champ as a player back in the late 60's so he knows what it takes to be a winner, , he presented the board his records , along with 20 plus letters from former players , some who graduated from Harvard ,Yale , Penn, West Point , & other Fine institutions of higher learning , I read a few of the letters & it gave me chills that this man was so infuential in his art of coaching basketball , he changed a lot of lives , instilled leadership , teamwork & loyality in his players, well if you know where I am headed with this you are correct, the coach from the school that was merging , is a young carefree , new idea man with a father on the school board , his record is 32 wins & 102 losses , has no idea how to lead let alone instill values in his players, he shows up at the practice in shorts & sandels, has no morals , has been seen in the local pubs drunk, , hey i like a wee dram here & there but I dont get $hitfaced drunk & fight with other patrons at the bar, , so you understand where this is leaning, yep the guy with daddy on the school board gets the job, & GETS a RAISE over what they were paying the ood WINNING coach , he was to hard on the players , all he thought about were the better payers & he was tuff on my son , cry babys all, you show up ON TIME, you will tuck in your shirt, you will give 100 % all the time , you will keep up you grades , you will not Embarass yourself your family & the school, , they were asked if winning was importaint, the old coach said it was THIRD, behind you family & your Faith in GOD, the young free thinker said it didnt matter , one way or the other as long as every one played & had a good time, yea good for the 6 year olds who dont keep score but this is a time to be a MAN & step up & have some backbone injected to youe attitude , needles to say if your daddy has the pull you will get the job no matter how un prepaired to do the job. ........ dammmm I should write a letter to the newspaper ...... but I dont live in that new school dristrict so I will let some one who has been screwed buy the school board to do it ........
I was at the market last night & saw some great looking asparagas, white purple & green, all about the size of your little finger , they are going on the smoker soon , a light smoke , most likely apple wood then a few shrimp added to the smoker, finished off with some stir fry veggies & a pint of Murphys stout,( in a glass not in the pan !), , should make a great lunch , a Partagas series D #4 with a little more coffee & a wee dram , of malt whisky & I should be fine till its time to pull out the Beef roast for supper
, its in the oven & should be ready about 5/6 PM , or so, made sooner maybe later, depends on how late we want to eat, , thats up to the BOSS, well its time for me to fire up a second pot , the KONA is empty so I will try a little moka java , or a nice bright Italian roast columbian bean with a touch of lemon peal in the cup , on second thought a little Barizillian santos might hit the spot , but I have just a few ounces of a mexican delight & cant remember the name of it & am to dammm lazy to get up & go look , , but I can finish it & get something different out to roast this afternoon, , hummm roasting coffee sipping scotch, & smoking cigars , what a better way to spend a sunday afternoon . Enjoy, Vince

Good morning , it is Sunday , 9 May ,2010, a down right COLD & WET morning here in da Burgh , 38F right now, winds are brisk at 15 to 20 MPH with gusts of 40 , the wind chimes are broken, the flag is torn & needs to be replaced , & the bird feeder is spinning like a stripper on a pole !, it is uncomfortable to say the lest. But I have turned on the heat in the Qtr.Deck & have a pot of kona on & will be heading out right after breakfast, , I have some thick cut bacon, ready to go a few eggs & cherry tomatos a little sweet onion a bit of hot pepper cheese , Pumpernickle toast . should be ready soon, so I better get going & stop day dreaming about what cigars I will be smoking today, I might just close my eyes & grab a humidor or 2 , open them & smoke what ever I pull out , cant be all that bad , just might be needing to rethink that , I just dont want to start out the day with a Cain F , all that power before lunch just might give me a buzz hahahaha I do have a nice pair of Strip steaks marrinading in a nice herb & oil mix , there is the seasons first corn on the cob , & it will all go on the grill some time this afternoon......
the shop has been slow all week but Friday pulled it out of the fire , sales were good but they should be getting better , maybe I am being to nice to the customers, hahahaha , but some of them just want to take advantage of you, I had some cupons in a local paper good for 30 days , they ran up untill May 3 , starting back in April, I got back one cupon, ONE cupon buy one get one free , ONE out of 18,000 sent out , ONE DAMMMMM CUPON , well this guy comes in on the 7th , 4 days after the cupon expired , & I was in a grumpy mood as always & he wanted a free cigar with his EXPIRED cupon , & since I was all ready pissed about the cost of the advertisement & it going in the crapper , I told the guy it had EXPIRED, I scaned it on the computer & it woulnt take it, I did not have the over ride pass word to take it & sure as h3ll wasnt going to pay for the cigar out of my own pocket , Now if the guy had been a little friendly & tryed to be nice about it I might have let it slide , & given him the free smoke , he is always looking for a freebe, wants Montecristos at cost if he gets a box, & then wants me to old them because he dosent have a humidor , so he wants me to make ZERO profit on the box, store it for him so he can smoke them one at a time , yea like thats going to happen well when he wanted the free smoke I just flat out told him the same thing I told him about the box of monties, H3LL NO , why do you want to bust my balls, you come in my shop bring the cheep mail order bundle cigars you get on line, or at the gas station & drink my coffee & never clean up your own cup, leave your trash all over the place & want me to be your father & provide this all free , dammmm where did you grow up ?, where your parent even married ?, do you know who your father is ?, dammm cheep bastard !!!!well I feel better now that I have vented a bit ! hahaha
the grandsons are busy as always & I took the younger one to Pittsburgh last Friday morning to his Doctors at Univ. of Pittsburgh , he is a case study , he has been getting taller but not gaing any weight , he is eating but burning it up faster than he can replace it , sure didnt take afer me hahahaha I look at food & gain 2 pounds !
the hockey season is here the playoffs are in full swing , Pittsburgh is in the hunt for the cup, the baseball season is underway & the Pirates are in there 18th loosing season at 2 games below a 500 season , the Qtr Back for the steelers is getting ripped on the local sports talk shows & in the papers, even some of the national magazines are ripping ben a new @$$ hole, well I guess you reap what you soe ....... the coffee is about gone I need to make a second pot so have a great day to you all , Enjoy, Vince

Good morning, it is Sunday the 16th of May 2010, a wonderful spring morning here in Pittsburgh, Hockey season has ended here in da burgh as the Pens got crushed in game 7 of the Semifinals , the last hockey game to be played in the old Arena , next season they will be playing in a new building just over the hill from the old one, personally I have no idea why they built a new one to play in so the old building was 50 years old 7 the seating was limitited but they sold out the house for every home game , but its just our TAX dollars at work, we had a beautiful baseball football statium, 3 rivers statium, the athority still owed 29Million buks on the structure when it was torn down to make room for the 2 new statiums, one for baseball & one for football, , both are wonderful buildings , but there was nothing wrong with the old one , government & big business spending our tax dollars , greeeedy bastards all of them !
well I had a birth day last week, , looks like I made it an other year , smoked a few fine cigars had some cake & went to bed early, , dammm just like every other day but for the cake hahahaha , seams just like yesterday I was on my tricicle bouncing down the basement steps , Oh yea it was hahahaha , at my age I dont heal as fast as I did when I was 6 hahahahaha or even 60 for that matter ......
I have a pork roast on right now, a stuffing of apples celery carots & onions , flavored with a little sage , quick & easy , in the oven on a low setting & let it cook all day , there will be some mashed yams for a side dish, a sprinkle of fresh grated nutmeg on top of them a bottle of red wine & we should be just fine ...
the shop had a fair week, & Great friday pulled out what might have been a bad week sales wise to a good one , & I worked a half day & saturday as my wife & I had tickets to a play , we saw BYE BYE Birdy a musical about the millitary drafting of a rock & roll star , his manager ( a real Mommas boy , his secetery, & a family in some rural town where the rock star has a fan club & all the teen aged girls & boys to go along with it , a great show in a wonderfull theaterby a tallented bunch well worth the 20 bucks a seat even if they were the cheepest seats in the place , I saw the same show as the big wigs in the tux's & gowns spending a few hundred a seat just to be seen by the other patrons of the show, God Bless them, all as they have the money to spend & they do , IF I had that kind of cash I might just do the damm same thing hahahahah , money makes the world go round for sure, , well i have a lot to do this day, & this isnt getting me any closer to the Don Carlos #3 or that pot of Kona I did make a pot of moca java for breakfast, , a nice thick slice of bacon & an egg slid down the gullet with out any problems, a left over slice of birthday cake instead of toast was a different take on the egg for sure ! , I will be picking up both grandsons this afternoon heading out for our weekly adventure & attact of the junk food vendors , hahaha Enjoy, Vince

Good Morning! It is a glorious Spring morning/day here in Wilmington also. (that makes 2 in a row). I just smoked a bowl of Trout Stream while firing the smoker up for some country style ribs.

Couldn't ask for better weather. Moderate with a nice breeze and low humidity. The missus spent the day yesterday outside at the local "Scottish Games" doing a spinning demonstration (sheep to shaw) and today I get to spend the day outside with my pipe and my other smoker!

Just chiming in to say hello to everyone. I finished catching up on the Sunday Morning Smoke earlier today. On April 25th, I received a call that I knew about two or three months ago was going to come very soon. On April 28th, I flew down to Puerto Rico to take over my father's life and affairs. Without going in to all the details, I spent 16 days down there being a CEO, lawyer, realtor, overseer, medical care assistant, secretary, manual laborer, and will continue to be all of these things and more for quite some time. My father, two months away from 85, and having been mired in health difficulties related mostly to diabetes and high blood pressure, will probably die soon. He has many things wrong with him. Overall, I know he has little or no regrets, and has lived a full life. The 15 years he has been in retirement have seen him live the life he always wanted to return to, surrounded by nature. The high crime plaguing many areas of Puerto Rico and overdevelopment notwithstanding, did not drive him out altogether, as it has so many others. As such, he has left me quite a foundation to build on, as far as keeping the old family farm in the family, and perhaps turning it back in to what it once was. And what it once was, was part of the teeming agricultural paradise that Puerto Rico used to be.

In 1998 when I went down to visit my dad, just prior to Hurricane Georges, we had a one hour meeting with his attorney to discuss the dilemma surrounding land issues that my grandmother had left him with when she died in the summer of 1986. I had a vision of how things could some day be during that visit, but increasing crime after that trip, along with my father's own indecisiveness through the years, let it fall to me to see what would be done. As the years went by and my father did nothing, and perhaps began suffering early onset Alzheimer's a few years ago, I realized that the day was coming when a similar mess that his mother left to him would be left to me. It became incumbent upon me to wait patiently and not take him out of what was obviously a comfort zone for him. Some time during the middle of April, a fire of unknown origin hit the farm about 200-300 feet away from the main house, did little damage, but upset my father greatly. He was taken to a hospital that night after calling for his worker, who came along with his father and others. That night my father evidently suffered a stroke. In our last telephone conversation, coincidentally perhaps just a day or so earlier, he had expressed his own fears of having a stroke. He had circulation problems for years, worsening recently.

My father now lies in a nursing home in world famous Boqueron, a beach and resort area just minutes away from the small town below the farm. He will never walk again, and the last conversation we had was one of the last he had with anyone in this world, perhaps the very last. Although he has uttered a few intelligible words in that time, and is coherent and responsive, he cannot converse, has two kidneys in terrible shape, and a lot of other things wrong with him. We do not expect him to last much longer, perhaps to his 85th birthday, but another honorably discharged WWII is about to die. I learned more about my father's military service, which I may post in The General Discussion forum on the open boards. He never talked about anything other than that he had been part of the US Army contingent guarding The Panama Canal. As it turns out, it wasn't just standing around whistling comfortably waiting for an attack that never happened. It was a pretty rough life, and he contracted malaria, suffered some kind of attacks at night after being released from the Army, and had been a party to what was a miserable existence for all the soldiers stationed down there. There is a great picture of my father on The General's Launch in one of the Canal zones, holding down some kind of bar on the deck, perhaps a rudder, or actually piloting the boat, January 23, 1946, about five weeks before the end of his term of service.

The vision I had in 1998, of turning the old family property in to a working farm again, where cows roam, chickens play and a multitude of food and coffee trees grow, can be achieved. Although I have not been left a rich man by any means, my father built quite a foundation. With the blessings of The Lord Jesus Christ and properly managed by me, it appears that I might have the support group(s) I need as well. While I would never move down there full time, I am perfectly willing to make three to four trips a year to establish and manage a farm/food coop type of arrangement. I despise the weather, as I think everyone here knows I simply can't take the summer, but I love my family and that down home Puerto Rican cooking. With central air installed, at least in the area I would use as my quarters, I'd be very happy spending 15-20% of the rest of my life down there, attempting to push back at the attempts to pave Puerto Rico. Crime has gone down in the area around the farm, and although one can never let their guard down, the decent people have taken back the town of Cabo Rojo.

I will soon begin a case to become my dad's legal guardian, as the power of attorney written for me ten years ago is of no effect down there. Once achieving this end, I can access his account(s), stabilize my own financial existence, continue to oversee his medical care, and begin to resolve the family land issues. With that in mind, I can also begin to see the land lying mostly fallow for decades, save for some cattle, begin to produce again. A laptop with everywhere internet service is in my future, God willing, so I can read up on EOTAC and the rest of the world, as I will be shuttling back and forth to Puerto Rico on a very frequent basis for the next few months. After that, I will determine a regular schedule of visits that will give me enough time down there to work and manage affairs as they progress. I just returned on Friday afternoon, and am due back there in days. Always great catching up on Vince's doings. God bless the folks here at EOTAC, let's keep the forums going as best as we can, and maybe some day we'll ship sum yall people a few mangoes and grapefruits, along with a couple pounds of coffee. God help us in that endeavor, my family and those who have worked on our farm going back generations in their own families.

Good morning , it is Sunday 23 May 2010 , a foggy cool morning here in Da Burgh , Yesterday was the Western Pa Cigar Crawl , about 50 of us on a bus stopping at a few selected cigar shops & eating, drinking ourselves into obivion, this is our 12 year & it was one of the best so far , I was able to "stock up " on a few cigars , got to try some stuff I hadn't had in the past, got to sample a few NEW blends, & Drank a lot of Coffee & scotch , dammmm it was just like being at work hahahaha , today we are all getting together at Slippery Rock Cigars to detox & eat asprins & maybe smoke a few more & drink a lot more & maybe just fall a sleep under a tree , the web site for the cigar crawl is
www.cigarcrawl.com
there will be links to the photos soon, & some from past adventures into the debachery that happens on the bus , there were no fights or arguements this year untill I removed a box of cigars from some one during the door prize session, he got all upset, swore at me said he would never spend an other dime at my shop, well in the 3 years we have been open he has been there ONE time , when this guy lost his job , I gave him cigars all the time , I gave him everything from an opus X to a Cuban monte #2 , & when he won a box at the dinner I could have chosen anything that had previous winners got or take whats behind the curtain, well a known prixe is better that a guess, so I went for the box of la travatia that was sitting in front of this lump, , I dont mind helping out a friend or a stranger but this guy just has no class & isnt able to say a simple Thank you, well pay backs are a BITCH & last night I got a little payback, but he did end up with a box of cigars , just not as good as he wanted, it was the LUCK of the draw....
the day was wet , it rained all day & we had to keep the roof vents closed on the bus whitch made the bus a weee bit smokey at times hahaha, yea like from the time we giot on the bus till we got off ! the shops we went to were glad to see all of us , hummms lets see 50 guys all spending an average of 50 bucks a person thats a good day in any cigar shop, every one was giving at lest 10% off what ever you got & one place was discounting 30% on box sales , I ended up with just under 100 sticks for the day , it was a good day for sure, ,,,,,,
last week there was a little Piano recitial for the students at the home of the teacher, , we heard a range of tallent from twinkle little star played by a 6 year old girl to a masters rendition of of a Rockmonanov piece that I dont remember the name of by the instructor it was a great evening ....
I am not cooking today, we are having left over Stuffed Peppers & I plan on getting a nap this afternoon in the hamock when i get to the shop in Slippery Rock .... right now , I NEED a shower , I reek of smoke & scotch, N O T thats its a BAD THING hahahahaha , more news form the burgh Next Sunday with the Lord willing ... Enjoy, Vince

Good morning , it is Sunday , 30 May ,2010, a HOT & Humid morning here in da burgh, the coffee that is filling my cup is Sumatra & the kona is ready to brew next .Breakfast was a bacon & egg on a toasted muffin, a little melted swiss cheese ,vine ripe tomato a spoonfull of red pepper relish& a dash of celery seed , all fallowed up with a ice cold gala apple dipped in peanut & cashew butter , there went todays calories !!!! , but I have some home made hot sausage ready to hit the grill some time this afternoon, with this being the "OFFICIAL" start of summer , the Memorial day weekend , I have NOTHING planned , just going to sit on the back deck, pull the cork on a bottle of single malt , brew up a lot of coffee &
S M O K E a lot of cigars , If I could get away with it I would not even put any pants on, just the jocky shorts, dont want to stick to the chairs hahahaha .
it has been a verrrry warm & humid week at the cigar shop, , but withthe fans turning at high speed it keeps the smoke moving out the open doors but makes a real mess on the floor & not to mention the bad burn you get sitting in the wind, , ashes every place you look, just more work for me , not that I do all that much anyway hahahaha . I did get a new Gas Grill for the back deck, it will get a realy good work out today , sausage & corn are on the menu & all will be fire roasted , a little Pre lighting to the grill is to take it back appart & wash the grates & season them, a good salt rub to get off any high spots & grind it down to a smooth finishe , get it hot & seal it with a dab of cooking oil & then its time to cook, a few onions & some peppers , just dont be down wind of me later hahaha
The grandsons are off with there father this weekend , so I will not be corrupting any children this weekend, hey they are 12 & 14 , I was a cigar smoker by the time I was 15, & it hasnt hurt me other than it has DRAINED my cash reserves , BUT it has given me pleasures far beyond what it cost in hard cold cash, the friends I have made, the doors that it has opened , it was worth 100 times what I spent on the cigars & pipes , now as I look back on my life & remember all the great times I had Very few didnt have a cigar in the memorie........
Enjoy, Vince

Good morning , it is Sunday 6 June,2010 a warm humid morning here in da burgH , yes PITTSBURGH there is the letter H at the end of the burgh , I have no idea why thet bugs me when I see Pittsburgh with out the H , I am a very poor speller as you might have noticed had you been reading my BS over a long peroid of time .... but when I dont see the H I think they are talking about some other city there are pittsburg's in Alabama & California, that do not have the H maybe a few more i dont know about , hey there are a lot of things i dont know anything about, just ask my wife hahahaha
I found a new bread in the market , a dark German rye bread with a lot of caraway, & other seeds, in the mix, its like some one spilled a bag of bird seed in the mix, , I have no idea whats in it , but as long as they make it & slice it for me I will contue to buy it . toasts well & freeze's well, has a nice nutlike flavor , holds up well in the microwave when i melt cheese on it , A bit pricy at 3.29 a loaf , for the size of the loaf ... but the taste is worth it to me .
we have been getting a lot of HEAVY weather here the past few days we are sitting out a toranado alert right now , I just checked the radar at the airport & there are a lot of heavy showers & lightning strikes off to my soutwest heading right tward me, , we had a line go through about an hour ago & this one isnt as wide as the last but more lightning with this one , hummm mabe i can get the 2 iron out & a few balls in the rain hahahaha
I have a pot of moca java to finish & a pot of kona wating for me & my good friend Don Carlos III, But I have a special anouncement as far as my Morning smoke , it has been over 10 years now that i have been having a dc3 for my moring smoke but I have started to smoke a new one not every day but I am enjoying a CAO La Travitia corona , a change to the DC3 not to replace it but to allow it to take a well erned rest & just after a 2 day break the DC3 was right back where i wanted that taste profile to be , I am going to try a 5 day regiment of the CAO & see what i get when I get back to Don Carlos 3......
this moring I have a very easy day planed , the local store front Church /Coffeeshop is having a spagetti dinner today as a fundraiser for thier mission to Central Americia , well anytime I can sponcer anyone going to a cigar making country carring a diplomatic passport ( not subject to customs inspection on the return) , welllll you get the idea hahaha , so I eat a little pasta & make a donation to the trip , then I give him an envelope to remember me with a shopping list & cash , good thing he is a cigar smoking scotch drinking man of the cloth ! , AMEN to that !!!
the gradsons have been busy getting ready to end the school year & getting the back yard pool ready for the season, , I have no idea why they shut it down in the winter, just fire up the heater & swimm all winter, so what if its zero out, if the water is warm hahahahaha
the shop has been slow this past week , however the number of cheep sticks has gone down & the higher priced stuff is selling slightly better , more money in the till but the markup is less on the high end vs. the moderate priced cigars , I can get away with the manufactures seggested retale on them as its the same in any shop, but to sell the high end stuff i cant sell them with out a small price cut , more cash in but more cash out to replace the stock ..... a fine line between the buying & selling , driven by PROFIT ahhh yes capitialisum , it sure has state run stuff beat all to H3LL , but as the founders of Democractic government system, the Greeks have slid into scoiciaisum, I fear the USA is heading in that direction, way to many social programs, & WAY to much welfair , , a guy came in the shop this past week with an Access (welfair )credit card & wanted to buy a box of cigars , dammmm what to do , I am Paying for them with my tax money , & the liberal say well just because they are unemployed why shoulnt they enjoy a FINE cigar if thats what they want, BUT the same liberal will also say dont smoke, in the next breath, well I didnt take the card or make the sale, , am I stupid for doing that ? its not my place to tell a perfect stranger that he should get a job & then come back with cash , had the guy been a regular or at lest occasional , but he has never been in the shop before , i guess with the access(welfare) card he has started living better than he did when he had a job.... .... or am I the fool for not making the sale & embarrising a lotal stranger, now he might never come back , oh its not my fault I got fired, just because I drug & booze habbit & got canned, its not my fault, BS .... I dont know , to many liberals out there beating my ears with a constant hammering , give them a hand up, well in the past i did a few time only to have them step on my hand as they climed over me taking the hadout of some one higher up the food chain, , , , , only to see them right back in the gutter 6 months later, am I bitter, ??? I dont know for sure ,, should I be ??? , I look at MY life, on the whole I am happy with where I am & who I am , I worked Hard, holding maulti jobs at the same time, working & learning to better my self at every turn in the road, when I was able I helped younger people learn from me & am proud of what I did so there is no reason for me to feel bad, about NOT selling a box of cigars to a guy on welfare , you know if it had been a run of the mill every day smoke I might have done it, but a Box of Montecristo 75th anniv. cigars was way out of my price rage to use for an every day smoke, he was celebrating one year of Unemployment & boasting about it , dammmm it still ticks me off. , now my stomach is tied up in knots & I need to relax, take a good dump & flush all this worry away , light up a Fine old cigar maybe a contraband R&J , that has been hitting the surface of my humidor for the past week or so , maybe a CAO , or my buddy Don Carlos 3, just like a kid in a candy store, I want them ALL ! hahahah Enjoy, Vince
